How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 400 deg F
  • Sift the dry ing.
  • Mix the sugar in .
  • Rub the butter into the mixture with your fingertips until it resembles breadcrumbs .
  • Make a well in the centre of the flour mixture .
  • Pour in the milk and mix well with a wooden spoon .
  • Turn the dough out onto a well-floured board and knead until smooth .
  • Shape into a mounded loaf about 7 inches around and about 2 inches thick .
  • Place on a greesed cookie sheet and cut across 1/2 inch deep on top of the loaf .
  • Bake for 25 mins .
  • Lower temp to 375 deg F
  • Bake 10 to 15 mins longer until the bread is golden in color and sounds hollow when tapped .
