Tipsy Tart

- 2 tablespoons butter shopping list
- ¾ cup sugar shopping list
- 1 large egg shopping list
- 1 ½ cup flour shopping list
- pinch salt shopping list
- 2 teaspoons baking powder shopping list
- 1 cup chopped dates shopping list
- 1 cup boiling water shopping list
- 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda shopping list
- ½ cup walnuts shopping list
- The syrup: shopping list
- 1 ½ cup sugar shopping list
- ¾ cup water shopping list
- 1 tablespoon butter shopping list
- ½ teaspoon vanilla essence shopping list
- ½ cup brandy shopping list
How to make it
- Soak the dates and nuts in boiling water, add bicarbonate of soda and allow to cool completely.
- Cream butter & sugar and add egg
- Sift the flour, baking powder & salt and add to butter mixture – mix well.
- Add date mixture & mix well.
- Pour mixture in a shallow ovenproof dish about 20cm x 36cm.
- Bake at 180 deg C (about 350 deg F) for approx. 20 min. or until done.
- SYRUP:
- Boil sugar & water for 5 min. and add the rest of the ingredients.
- Cut the tart in portions and pour the hot sauce over the tart while still hot.
- (You may think that there is too much sauce, but pour it all on and leave the tart to cool)
- Decorate with cream, cherries and grated chocolate.
