How to make it

  • Soak the dates and nuts in boiling water, add bicarbonate of soda and allow to cool completely.
  • Cream butter & sugar and add egg
  • Sift the flour, baking powder & salt and add to butter mixture – mix well.
  • Add date mixture & mix well.
  • Pour mixture in a shallow ovenproof dish about 20cm x 36cm.
  • Bake at 180 deg C (about 350 deg F) for approx. 20 min. or until done.
  • SYRUP:
  • Boil sugar & water for 5 min. and add the rest of the ingredients.
  • Cut the tart in portions and pour the hot sauce over the tart while still hot.
  • (You may think that there is too much sauce, but pour it all on and leave the tart to cool)
  • Decorate with cream, cherries and grated chocolate.
