Ingredients

How to make it

  • Heat grill to 350, making sure to leave room for indirect heat
  • Rinse chicken inside and out
  • Pat dry with paper towel
  • Open beer with can opener
  • Drink or discard half can of beer
  • Spray chicken with cooking spray
  • Rub whole chicken with Carolina rub, adding any leftover to beer

I made this again, tonight, Wynne. (11/8/13) My son LOVED it. I did make using a similar rub as Essentialingregients that I whipped up. . Just used cayenne pepper instead of chili powder. Thanks again. : )
    Hope you are doing well

Wynne, I made this tonight, Its been at least a decade since Ive made a whole chicken. This was FANTASTIC I didnt use the Carolina rub, tho.. I just used Italian seasoning with some garlic powder, S&P. Oh, and I added a couple of sprigs of rosemary in the beer can. The skin was super crisp and the meat super moist. I ate half the chicken :) No veggies, no rice, no sides at all. Just the chicken and a 22oz bottle of red ale. GREAT dinner. Thank you, again : ) More posted here Wynnes Beer Butt Chicken

I like the name "beer butt" chicken, we just called it "dancing chicken". I don't use the special rack, just stick that bird on the can, put it over a drip pan and let it cook (in direct heat) until it's done. No turning needed. But either way, it's good chicken!
