1 Dungeness crab, fresh, cooked, cleaned and cracked
How to make it
Have the fishmonger clean and crack the crab ( I usually do that at home by myself, to get the tomalley or crabbutter ). Put it in a steamer basket and steam over boiling water for 5 min or so, just to heat it through. In the meantime, melt some butter.
To serve, I like to keep the crab in the steaming vessel to keep it warm. Put some bread on the table. Everybody gets some butter in a small bowl, some lobster silverware (( small thin forks to get in all the crannies ) and let the feast begin ...
