Favorite Old Fashioned Gingerbread Cake

- 1/2 cup white sugar shopping list
- 1/2 cup butter shopping list
- 1 egg shopping list
- 1 cup molasses shopping list
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour shopping list
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda shopping list
- 1 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon shopping list
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger shopping list
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon salt dissolved in 1 cup hot water shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9-inch square pan.
- In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter. Beat in the egg, and mix in the molasses.
- In a bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves. Blend into the creamed mixture. Stir in the salt and hot water. Pour into the prepared pan.
- Bake for 45- 1 hour in the preheated oven, or until a knife inserted in the centre comes out clean. Allow to cool in pan before serving.
- I dust this with icing sugar
- I usually serve this with strawberries, about three or four per person: Wash and hull the strawberries. Quarter the berries and sprinkle with 1 scant tsp of sugar. Let this sit on the counter for a few hours to allow the sugar and juice from the berries to make a great syrup.
