How to make it

  • Preheat oven 400* if using aluminum pans 375*
  • line muffin cups with liners and set aside
  • Blend sugar and zest or dried peel remove 1/4 along with 1/4 cup flour and place in smaller bowl... mix together well and cut in 2 tbsp chilled cubed butter until crumbly set aside... whisk together remaining flour, lemon sugar, baking powder, and salt...In another bowl combine buttermilk, juice and melted butter... make a well into dry ingredients and pour in liquid using fork or knife mix together just till dry ingredients are moistened...gently fold in berries (I like to add last so they are not crushed)I also like using a scoop to add to muffin cups sprinkle with crumb mixture and bake 18-22 minutes until tops spring back and toothpick when inserted comes out clean last 2 minutes of baking drizzle lemon or orange sugar mixture over tops if using and let bake 2 min more... remove let cool on wire rack...
