How to make it

  • Mash the chickpeas roughly with a fork in a large mixing bowl.
  • Mince the onion and stir to combine.
  • Add the cornmeal and egg and whisk together briskly.
  • Melt the butter and stir in to the rest of the dry ingredients.
  • Measure the dry ingredients on top of the wet and stir to blend.
  • If the mixture is too wet for a dough add more flour to suit.
  • Form in to balls and set aside as the beef broth is set to simmer in a pan.
  • Set the dumplings in to the beef broth and continue to simmer until done, about ten minutes.
