Ingredients

How to make it

  • In a mixing bowl whisk all your orange sauce ingredients together and set aside. Orange juice, zest, soy sauce, honey, rice wine vinegar, garlic, ginger, orange marmalade, sambal, and corn starch.
  • 2. Add grapeseed oil and toasted sesame seed oil to saute pan on medium high heat. Add chicken and brown and cook thoroughly through around 6 to 10 minutes depending on the thickness of your chicken.
  • 3. Remove chicken from pan and drain all the leftover oil from the pan. Add the orange sauce and chicken back to the pan on medium heat. The sauce should thicken up in 2 to 3 minutes then remove from heat.
  • 4. Serve with your favorite rice or just add steamed sugar snaps to the orange chicken for a meal.

This is the best recipe for orange chicken I've found so far. I dropped the honey (glass jar) so I sub'd 2 T corn syrup. This, with the addition of the orange marmalade, was sufficient sweetness for us. The dark soy sauce turns the sauce into almost a brown gravy color; I would suggest trying the light-color soy sauce if you prefer more color. The chicken was good as it was. I prefer tempura-coated chicken and will probably use that next time. My husband says he greatly prefers this to the boxed orange chicken that has been my go-to for some time.
