Ingredients
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 TBSPS sugar
  • 2 TBSPS butter (or margarine)
  • 2 tsps Instant Minced Onion Flakes (or, about 2 TBSPS finely chopped fresh, sweet-variety onion, to taste)
  • 1/8 tsp crushed saffron threads
  • 2 tsps salt
  • 2 packages acrive dry yeast
  • 1 cup water (warm)
  • 4 1/2 cups all=purpose flour
  • Caraway seeds, for garnish (optional)

Directions
  1. Scald the milk. Stir in sugar, butter, onion, crushed saffron and salt. Cool to lukewarm.
  2. Sprinkle yeast over warm water in a large mixing bowl. Stir until dissolved, then add milk mixture.
  3. Add flour; stir until well blended.
  4. Cover and set in a warm place. Let rise to more than double in bulk, about 40 minutes.
  5. Stir batter down and beat vigorously for about 30 seconds.
  6. Turn into a greased 1 1/2-quart round casserole dish. Sprinkle the top wth caraway seeds.
  7. Bake in preheated 375 F oven for 1 to 1 1/4 hours.
