The following recipe was transcribed ver batim from Peterson's Magazine Philadelphia, Pennsylvania February, 1867 Sounds like a christmas fruitcake, sort of.

Ingredients
  • 1 lb flour
  • 1 lb. currants
  • 3/4 lb sugar
  • 1/2 lb butter
  • zest from 1/2 lemon
  • 1/2 lb citron (yummmmmm)
  • 8 eggs
  • brandy to your taste
  • .

Directions
  1. One pound of flour, one pound of currants, three-quarters of a pound of sugar, half a pound of butter, half the peel of a lemon, half a pound of citron, whisk all together, with eight eggs; add a little brandy; bake in a slow oven, two hours and a half.
