1930s Cushion Cake Recipe
I hadn't noticed this golden oldie from Effie Johnson of Kansas when I was a kid. It's kind of interesting. Some of the directions are written in the recipe.

Ingredients
  • 1 C sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 Cup butter Beat well together
  • Add 1/2 tsp soda, dissolved in
  • 1/2 Cup sweet mil
  • 1tsp cream of tartar, sifted with 2 Cups flour

Directions
  1. Mix, divide batter
  2. to1/2 add 2 Tbl molasses, 1 cup raisins, 1/4 tsp cloves,cinnamon and nutmeg,
  3. Put the dark part in a loaf tin and bake 20 minutes in a moderate oven---then very carefully pour light part over dark and bake 20 minutes more.
  4. I guess they probably prepared the pan and were using around a 350 oven
