1930s Cushion Cake

I hadn't noticed this golden oldie from Effie Johnson of Kansas when I was a kid. It's kind of interesting. Some of the directions are written in the recipe.
Ingredients
- 1 C sugar shopping list
- 2 eggs shopping list
- 1/2 Cup butter Beat well together shopping list
- Add 1/2 tsp soda, dissolved in shopping list
- 1/2 Cup sweet milk shopping list
- 1tsp cream of tartar, sifted with 2 Cups flour shopping list
How to make it
- Mix, divide batter
- to1/2 add 2 Tbl molasses, 1 cup raisins, 1/4 tsp cloves,cinnamon and nutmeg,
- Put the dark part in a loaf tin and bake 20 minutes in a moderate oven---then very carefully pour light part over dark and bake 20 minutes more.
- I guess they probably prepared the pan and were using around a 350 oven
