Another recipe from the Fairbanks, Alaska Women's Guild cookbook. Loved the name of the cake.

Ingredients
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup chopped, dates
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 egg, beatened
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 5 Tbsp. brown sugar
- 5 Tbsp. cream
- 2 Tbsp. butter
Directions
- Pour the boiling water over the dates and soda. Let stand while mixing the brown sugar, vanilla, egg, and butter together.
- Sift and add alternately with the date mixture, brown sugar mixture and flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Mix well and pour into a greased and floured 9x13-inch pan.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes.
- Ice while warm.
- Frosting: Boil the brown sugar, cream and butter in a small pan for 3 minutes. Pour over cake and spread.
