From bluewaterandsand 18 years agoIngredients
- 3 packages dry yeast shopping list
- 1 tablespoon salt shopping list
- 1 cup sugar shopping list
- 5 cups flour shopping list
- 4 cups warm water shopping list
- 3 eggs, beaten shopping list
- 1 cup shortening, melted shopping list
- 6 cups flour, approximately shopping list
How to make it
- In large mixing bowl, dry blend the yeast, salt, sugar, and flour. Then add the 4 cups warm water. For yeast breads, the water should feel quite warm to the touch but not hot or it will kill the yeast.
- Stir thoroughly, or beat with a hand mixer until blended.
- Add the 3 beaten eggs, melted shortening and enough flour to make a soft dough that is easily handled.
- Turn onto floured surface and knead until smooth.
- Place in bowl greased with margarine and turn to grease top.
- Cover and let rise until it has doubled.
- Knead down and form into rolls and place on greased cookie sheets.
- Cover and let rise until doubled.
- Bake in 375 F oven for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Maks about 70 rolls.
- Suggestions.....
- Form the rolls by flouring the hands, then cutting off egg-sized lumps of dough, turning the edges under until a smooth ball is formed. Place an inch apart for soft sides, farther for brown sides..
- Bowl of dough can be refrigerated for several days, punching down once or twice a day and removing enough dough for fresh rolls.
