I have no idea where this recipe comes from, but I do know that it is a regular in the family. We all love this. It is easy, tasty, comforting and inexpensive to make. Enjoy

Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1 can condensed tomato soup undiluted
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 loaf French bread
  • 1 tablespoon butter softened
  • 8 ounces Mexican flavored cheese sliced

Directions
  1. In a saucepan over medium heat cook beef and onion until meat is no longer pink then drain.
  2. Add soup, garlic salt, salt and pepper then simmer 10 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile slice the top third off the bread.
  4. Hollow out bottom half of loaf leaving a 3/4" shell.
  5. Spread butter on cut side of bread then place on baking sheet and broil until lightly browned.
  6. Spoon beef mixture into shell then arrange cheese slices on top.
  7. Broil until cheese is melted about 3 minutes then replace bread top and serve.
