Sombrero Dipper Recipe
This meaty cheesy dip is one of my students favorites. They have it with doritos.

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup onion
  • 1/2 cup ketchup (or hot ketchup if you want)
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 can kidney beans (15 1/2 oz with liquid), mash these
  • 1 tsp salt
  • sharp cheddar cheese (about 1 1/2 cups), grated

Directions
  1. Brown meat and onion.
  2. Drain well.
  3. Stir in ketchup, chili powder and salt.
  4. Add mashed bean mixture. Stir all well.
  5. Put this mixture into an over-proof dish.
  6. Top with the cheese. (at this point you could also add some black olives and green onions)
  7. Bake at 350 degrees for about 25 - 30 minutes or until cheese is bubbling.
  8. Serve with dipping chips.

So simple and so good!

Sounds good except those dorito's... I'll stick with some chips from the mexican grocer. Tell those kids they should stop eating those!, lol I've had these types of dips before but never with the mashed beans and that's a great addition.

Hey I agree with ya. Teaching is combining my love of nutrition and their taste buds. It's disheartening at times.

A thought! it would also be good with homemade tortilla chips (cut up your own wraps, season and bake). just a thought!!!

This sounds very similar to a dip I make so I know this is good - thanks Deb!
