Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup and 1 tablespoon butter from room temperature
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons cinnamon or 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg and 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1-1/4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons boiled hot water
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 2 cups peeled, core out and diced apples

Directions
  1. cream butter and sugar together really well
  2. add everything, egg, salt, baking soda, cinnamon, flour, vanilla, boiled water, walnuts, and apples
  3. mix this by hand with a wooden spoon until blended and moist but not over mixed
  4. pour into greased 9 inch round cake pan
  5. bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 45 or 50 minutes
  6. cool on wire rack when it is done with baking
  7. sprinkle with icing sugar and serve with vanilla ice cream
