Here's another great looking cookie recipe that I found in the Marlboro Country Cookbook, Morning Fires, Evening Lights. (Philip Morris 1998)YUM!

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar, divided
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp each, salt, ground cloves and ginger

Directions
  1. Melt butter and shortening in a small saucepan; pour into a mixing bowl. Add 1 cup sugar, molasses and egg, beat until well-mixed.
  2. Combine flour, soda, cinnamon, salt, cloves and ginger; add to first mixture and mix well. Chill 2 to 3 hours.
  3. Shape dough into 1 1/4" balls, roll in remaining sugar and place on a greased cookie sheet.
  4. Flatten with a fork. Bake in a 325ยบ oven for 12 mins. Makes about 2 1/2 dozen cookies.
