I would soak my fingers in milk for about 10 -15 min... not just pour it over. then, wash with cool water and cover in aloe vera gel. Treat it like a burn, because it is really. I've even put an ice pack on kitchen burns.

I do LOTS of chiles. Once the capsicum soaks into your skin, nothing with help completly. Dip your hands in a 50/50 solution of water and bleach, let it sit on for a minute or so, rinse it off, then wash with cool soapy water. It will give you some relief. I always keep a little bleach water around when I am doing chiles. If you rinse with it every once in a while, It helps a lot.... Hope this helps

I have heard that it is a good idea to chop
very hot peppers, etc. with sanitary (throw
away) type gloves. Just my opinion, though.
Hope it helps a bit. I think the other suggestions
are great and what Mornin said would be very soothing.

Lana is right. I am not very sensitive to the heat but when processing a lot of hot chiles, I wear surgical gloves. You still have to wash them regularly because juice of Habeneros will even penetrate the gloves. And dont forget to TAKE THEM OFF before touching any part of your body.... LOL I know by experience.... Jim

Always gloves..but once you get the burn it is hard to be soothed. i have heard that ice on a burn is not good because the skin is already damaged, but what do I know?
I do know that washing well with soap and cool water can't hurt and that aloe vera can help any burn.
I keep an indoor aloe vera plant for just that reason and snap a 'leaf' off just for that reason. Magic!
I do hope you are feeling better.

I am sure you are feeling better by now but I have a couple of tips for the future. Vinyl gloves are the best option of course another option is to leave the stem on the pepper and use it as a handle when you are slicing. I have never tried this but I know when they rate how hot peppers are they use a solution of sugar water to nutralize the heat. Good Luck

When I lived at home my dad had a ton of tomatoes in his garden and got on a fresh salsa kick. I was chopping up jalapeƱos like it was nobodies business! I had the same problem you did and I found a very, very odd solution. Toothpaste. My little sister squirted it all over our bathroom once when my fingers were burning and I got a ton on my hands while cleaning it up then the burning went away. It's fairly odd, but it worked. I soon spent like 10 dollars on getting one of those little jars with a chopping attachment and just sticking the peppers in there and going crazy! No more toothpaste on my fingers...
