- 1 pound ground beef shopping list
- 1/4 pound ground pork shopping list
- 2 t. salt shopping list
- 1/2 t. pepper shopping list
- 3/4 c. cooked rice shopping list
- 1 small onion, grated * shopping list
- 2-8 ounce cans tomato sauce, DIVIDED shopping list
- 12 large cabbage leaves, slightly softened in boiling water shopping list
- 2 T. oil shopping list
- 1 egg (a variation of hers) shopping list
- 1/4 c. brown sugar shopping list
- 1/4 c. lemon juice shopping list
- * or chopped and sauteed in bacon grease shopping list
How to make it
- Combine the 2 meats, salt, pepper, rice, onion and ONE CAN tomato sauce;
- Divide into 12 mounds;
- Place a mound on one cabbage leaf;
- Roll envelope style (once horizontally, fold sides toward center, then roll horizontally to finish off the envelope); keep it all tucked in neatly, but if a leaf rips don't worry, just pack the rolls tightly in the cooking pot and they'll stay intact pretty much;
- She sometimes browned the rolls in oil at this stage, but I never have;
- Place rolls in large pot, packing very close together;
- Mix ONE CAN tomato sauce with brown sugar and lemon juice;
- Pour over rolls;
- Cook, covered, for 1 to 1 1/2 hours
- VARIATIONS: she never did it the same way twice. Sometimes used catsup, vinegar, more onions, so whatever you do, you'll be fine.

Great recipe, something a bit different, I like a good stuffed cabbage. I think that the cabbage is very under rated. It is good, tasty, versatile and stays with you.
