Ingredients

How to make it

  • Combine the 2 meats, salt, pepper, rice, onion and ONE CAN tomato sauce;
  • Divide into 12 mounds;
  • Place a mound on one cabbage leaf;
  • Roll envelope style (once horizontally, fold sides toward center, then roll horizontally to finish off the envelope); keep it all tucked in neatly, but if a leaf rips don't worry, just pack the rolls tightly in the cooking pot and they'll stay intact pretty much;
  • She sometimes browned the rolls in oil at this stage, but I never have;
  • Place rolls in large pot, packing very close together;
  • Mix ONE CAN tomato sauce with brown sugar and lemon juice;
  • Pour over rolls;
  • Cook, covered, for 1 to 1 1/2 hours
  • VARIATIONS: she never did it the same way twice. Sometimes used catsup, vinegar, more onions, so whatever you do, you'll be fine.

    Great recipe, something a bit different, I like a good stuffed cabbage. I think that the cabbage is very under rated. It is good, tasty, versatile and stays with you.
