Oldfashioned Sugar Cookies Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2-3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1-1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp. baking soda
  • *Sometimes I add baking soda and sometimes I don't
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 cup butter, softened slightly
  • 3/4 cup margarine, softened slightly
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • *If you want an almond flavored cookie, omit vanilla extract and add 1 tsp. almond extract
  • 1/4 cup granulated or colored sugar crystals (optional)

Directions
  1. Combine baking powder, flour, and salt and set to one side.
  2. With mixer, cream butter, margarine, and 2 cups of sugar just until fluffy.
  3. Beat in eggs one at a time, then vanilla.
  4. Roll the dough into walnut sized balls.
  5. Roll in sugar or colored crystal sugar - optional.
  6. Refrigerate dough balls for 20 minutes or freeze for later baking.
  7. Place dough balls on an un-greased cookie sheet and flatten slightly.
  8. Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are very lightly browned.
  9. You can also refrigerate the dough and then roll to make cut-out cookies.
