Applesauce For Challenged Apples Recipe

Applesauce For Challenged Apples Recipe
A recipe is born sometimes out of necessity. We had a bag of Gala apples with no flavor. Today is a rainy day and a bowl of warm applesauce sounded good. So, this is the jumping off point for this recipe.

Ingredients
  • 3 pounds apples (not tart)
  • 6 ounces cranberry juice concentrate, undiluted
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, or to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter, optional

Directions
  1. Peel, core and slice apples.
  2. Put the apples, cranberry juice concentrate, sugar and butter into the slow cooker.
  3. Set the slow cooker to LOW and cook for 3 hours, or until apples are soft.
  4. Mash or blend to the consistancy you prefer.
  5. Note: The butter gives an "apple pie" type flavor and richness. It can be left out.
  6. I am going to try with other types of fruit juices.
