Nancy Dooleys Brownies

- 24 ounces chocolate (I use a giant size bar plus broken up and bittersweet) shopping list
- 1/4 cup water shopping list
- 11 ounces unsalted butter, room temperature shopping list
- 1 1/2 cups sugar shopping list
- 4 eggs shopping list
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon salt shopping list
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda shopping list
- 1 cup nuts (optional, of course!) shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Put chocolate and water into a pan.
- Melt together over low heat.
- (I usually do this step in the microwave)
- Place chocolate into a large mixing bowl.
- Add softened butter.
- Mix until smooth.
- Beat in sugar, then eggs.
- Blend in flour.
- Beat in baking powder, salt and baking soda.
- Stir in nuts, if desired.
- Bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until toothpick comes out moist, not wet and the surface is crusty with a few cracks.
- Servings depend in size of brownie cuts.
