The frosting recipe that has accompanied my family's sugar cookie recipe for years. Includes optional directions on how to make orange or lemon frosting.

Ingredients
  • 6 T. soft butter
  • 1/3 t. salt
  • 1# powdered sugar
  • 4 T. milk
  • 1 t. vanilla

Directions
  1. Cream butter in mixing bowl
  2. Add sugar, salt, milk and vanilla. Beat until smooth and of spreading consistency.
  3. If necessary, thin with additional milk.
  4. For orange or lemon frosting: substitute 4 T. of orange or lemon juice for the milk and 1 t. of grated orange or lemon peel.
