We had a name brand sweetened green tea this weekend with our Valentines take-out. One of the kids really likes it, but the cost is prohibitive, it is a bit too syrupy and the additives are not desireable. So, I put together this for her.

Ingredients
  • 10 green tea bags - plain or flavored
  • 8 cups water
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

Directions
  1. Bring 8 cups of water to a boil and turn off the heat.
  2. Put in the tea bags. Steep for 15 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile, mix together the 4 cups of water, sugar and honey. Bring to a boil and simmer until sugar is dissolved.
  4. (Not really a simple syrup, but my pot I steep the tea in won't hold anymore than 8 cups of water.)
  5. Remove the tea bags from the water and discard, don't squeeze.
  6. In a large pitcher or jug that will hold 3 quarts of liquid, combine the tea and the sugar water.
  7. Stir in the lemon juice.
  8. Put into the refrigerator to chill.
