A Day called Friday

  • chuckieb 11 years ago
    Good Morning Everybody!
Jim's got to go in a bit early again today. He's had a really busy week. Hopefully things will slow down a bit for him next week. And tonight he's meeting his friend and they're going out for Thai and then to the Jr. A Hockey Game. So I'm on my own for dinner. Have a real craving for
    Chicken Parmigiano
so may dig around and see if I've got the appropriate ingredients.
Hope you got a really good sleep last night all cuddled under your quilt Tina! :) How are Charlie and Molly feeling this morning. Hope you don't have too much of a mess. :( Have a good shift tonight. Sorry to hear Liv has the flu. Hope she feels a lot better this morning! Goodness you have a lot going on. Hugs GF.
On the topic of ironing, we are big ironers here. But I think it's because I don't run down straight away to collect the clothes out of the dryer when they have just finished and thus they get wrinkles in them. Especially Jim's dress shirts.
Marie, what a great tip for when you get hot chilies in your eye (or under your thumb!) :) LOL! I love it and I shall remember that for next time. Thanks so much! Sorry to hear about Rick's SIL's Mother. Funerals are always sad no matter. Have a safe drive.
Sounds like you were enjoying the cool breezes last night too Kimmer. Jim was very pleased to curl in by the fire here last night. Pretty cold again this morning. -9F. Hope you are feeling all better this morning!
Laura, Joce what's on your agenda today?
Dahlia, how did the homemade pasta turn out?
The Service repair guys left around 7:15 last night. Knock on wood that both the Hot Water Heater and the Heating system are now both fixed. Knock, knock, KNOCK! :)
Did you get snow yesterday afterall Lori? Hope the roads are okay for you driving.
Laurie, we didn't see you yesterday! Any big plans for the weekend?
Gotta go pack Jim's lunch and make him something for brekkie he can eat in the car. It's Friday people! :) Make it a fun one!

Hello. I lurked a little last night. Working two 10 hr shifts today and tomorrow. Then I am off from Macy's til February.
Got an email from WW this morning about my availability. Kind of aggravating because I filled out a form at least three times and they still ask. She wants to add more meetings on but I kind of like the schedule I have now.
Lol I te texted my boss about the event this weekend of all the stuff I had and she calls me laughing. oMG your such a hoarder!!! She just started this year and when I met her I admitted I am a bit of a hoarder so whatever she offers me I will take. So every time she had anything I took it. Therefore I am the only store in NE with extra gifts, testers, and blotter cards. They are on their own for dinner.
Last night we had the orange chicken from trader Joes over brown rice and veggies

    Good morning!

Janet, your dinner idea sounds delish!

Laurie, the party you're throwing is to give away your hoardings to customers?

The pasta turned out great last night and we had fun spending time together. Oddly enough, the market I stopped at on the way didn't have butternut squash, though I've seen them in every other market I've been to!? Plan B, they did have Meyer lemons so I added their zest to a ricotta Parmesan filling for the ravioli. I didn't do the browned butter sauce, it was so late by the time I got home I was tired. Will try it tonight or tomorrow. I also made angel hair so that's what we ate for dinner with freshly grated Parmesan and marinara (jar from Trader Joe's) with a couple ravioli to try. Yummy!

    Good morning Janet & Laurie!

Janet, I couldn't believe how well the milk worked..I actually thought I'd go blind or something..it burned like crazy...Thank you, we will leave around 10:00, the funeral is at noon...I just love your chicken parm recipe:) I need to make that again real soon...Yea!!! on your heating system being fixed!

Laurie, will you have to work more hours at WW since you will have time off at Macy's? If not, maybe you can get some R&R!!!!

Boboli turkey pepperoni pizza for dinner (thanks to Tina for letting me know about turkey pepperoni!) I don't know when we will be home so something easy tonight!

    Have a fantastic Friday everyone!

Good Morning Laurie! A 10 hr. shift is a long one! You should take a pic of your event tomorrow to show us! :)
Oh my goodness on your Meyer Lemon Ricotta pasta filling Dahlia. And you made two types of pasta. Tooooo fun! I'm envious. You may remember I have a brand new still unopened Kitchenaid mixer downstairs. I know you can buy pasta attachments for it. Wouldn't that be a hoot! What kind of pasta maker did you guys use? Your Angel hair pasta with marinara sounded equally delectable.
Again Marie, have a safe drive. Pizza is a great Friday night dinner choice!
So I did my treadmill stint and then made myself a yummy Toasted Western for breakfast and watched "Pitchin In" on the Food Network. Today's show had Chef Lynn Crawford in Homestead, Florida at an Heirloom Tomato Farm. Incredible!

Double yum on chicken parmesan for supper! Angel hair and lemon ricotta ravioli ! and turkey pepperoni pizza. Looks like an Italian festival at ODD.

Following the theme, Fred is getting mild Italian sausage and ziti.
Loved the cool air and slept late.
Dogs are fine today, thank goodness.

Have a grand day all. I'm in a bit of a rush.

Here I am, Janet! :) Nope, I didn't get any snow. Knoxville got a few inches, and so did Maryville...but we didn't. *sigh* I WANT SNOW!!! 9 degrees...jeepers creepers that's cold! I hope the gods of water heaters and heating systems will smile down upon you now! No more problems like that for Janet, please! I've never seen that show on FN...sounds very cool.

Laurie, you are wearing me out.

Fresh pasta sounds fabulous, Dahlia. I've never tried to do that before. Kudos to you. Sounds like a very yummy ravioli filling!!

So sorry for the loss in your family, Marie. I need to make some clean out the fridge pizzas now that you mention the Boboli! :) Safe travels to you today.

Have a good day at work, Tina.

Hi Joce! Believe it or not, I have days where I don't have much to say! (Although you couldn't prove it by the length of my posts, lol!).

Bryan's working tonight, not sure what I will have for dinner.

Hi Joce! :) Yes, we got another e-mail from Benjamin last night. He felt his interview went well initially and then he felt it didn't. He was interviewed for an hour so I think that's a good sign. But as I told him, I don't want him to jump at the first offer anyway. He should make sure the pay is in line with what he is hoping for, and that he likes the look of the school, and of the neighbourhood where the school is located, and that the school has a good reputation. LOL. Anyway, he is continuing to send out resumes. With their New Year's coming up he's heard things quiet down at lot 'til mid Feb. anyway. Last night he was either going to go to another Chinese-English Meeting (he went for the first time last week) or out with some of the other kids (do you still call them kids when they're in their 20's?) from the Hostel as one of the girls was celebrating her birthday. What cha making for dinner? Did you make chocolate chip cookies yesterday? Earlier on today there was a post on the Homepage for some awesome butterscotch white chocolate chip cookies. Mmmmmm......
Not just 9 degrees Lori.....minus 9 degrees! It's a fair difference! :) When I was cleaning up Benjamin's room yesterday I came across this 'witches ball' that he had bought years ago. Supposedly it traps the bad luck/spirits in it and they can't get out. :) So I moved it into the kitchen and gave it the heads up on the heating system and the hot water tank. We'll see. :) LOL! I believe "Pitchin In" is a Canadian show and only on the Canadian Food Network although you might be able to get it off the Internet. That's good that you get another evening to yourself. I hate just eating leftovers when it's just me though so that's why I'm making something decent. :)

Marie, Sorry to hear about the loss in your family and as Lori said drive safely today.
I am going to gather you didn't get busted at the grocery store yesterday either.:)

Lori, LOL Sending snow your way just keep it there.

Janet, Well that does sound like a good school for Ben to work in for his first job there though. Would he have to sign a contract if he is offered the job or something or could he still keep looking around to find a better job once he is working there? I am going to bet he gets an offer on it anyways. Glad he is getting along with (yes I would call them) kids in the Hostel it sounds like fun getting out and about with them all. Are there any other Canadians staying in the Hostel too? I didn't make the chocolate chip cookies yesterday just the brownies. LOL I have no Idea why but I kept thinking it was Wednesday yesterday??? Den with have his regular steak, fries etc. tonight and I am just going to pull some spaghetti sauce out of the freezer for me and maybe make up some garlic bread to go with the spaghetti. Hoping the “witches ball” does the trick once and for all too!

Oh ya...I forgot about Marie and the coupons. I would be the very same, all paranoid that I was gonna get caught. LOLOL. Ya, they seem to be really big on contracts there and that's the reason I want him to make double sure it's a good school. The contracts are quite binding and if you break it then you risk getting sent back out of the country. He's okay for his first three months as he's considered a 'visitor' but once he gets a position then he'll have to apply for a work visa, and work visas can be revoked. He hasn't mentioned any other Canadians but I haven't directly posed that question either. He says the majority of them are Taiwanese, which is great for his language study. :) I could go for steak and fries tonight myself. Checked out movies to watch on Pay-per-vu and there's one called "To Rome with Love". But I think Jim might like it too so I'll wait to watch it with him. Was hoping maybe there'd be something on that I'd like and he wouldn't. :)

I was figuring they would have some strict rules there and wasn't sure about how they would go about. Thanks for the info. I am not sure if there is a new “Undercover Boss” tonight? If so we will watch it. Myself I don't think I would like “To Rome with Love” b/c I am not a big Woody Allen Fan anymore. We rarely do Pay-Per-Vu b/c we get some many movies Free On Demand. LOL sometimes it is hard to choose from them all and I just bought a bunch of DVD's that I got on sale from Amazon which we will watch at some point in time. Just some good ol favourites of mine.

I LOVE Undercover Boss. I'll have to go look. Thanks for the reminder Joce! :) I actually can't stand Woody Allen or Alec Baldwin but Penelope Cruz is also in it and I adore Ellen Page. And the story sounds fun, and it's set in Rome so that's just fun. :) Cool on the Free movies. We don't get that.

Will probably watch some more of an HBO Series we have been watching for a couple of years now, called “Boardwalk Empire” It Chronicles the life and times of Nucky Thompson, the undisputed ruler of Atlantic City, who was equal parts politician and gangster. It is very good and informative staring Steve Buscemi and Kelly Macdonald and many familiar actors. We can watch that on demand so we can knock a few hours of that off whenever there is a repeat on something we normally watch on Friday nights.

HBO has THE BEST shows. I don't think we get that either. :( Nucky? OMG. I thank my stars my parents didn't name me that. :) (Apologies to anybody with a Nucky in their family) :)

LOL To be quite honest I am not sure if that was his real name or his mob name but it stuck:) I just checked and his first name was Enoch so Nucky came from that!!!

Just home now. I think it will be express your-inner-pizza night here at the Dowlings. Had such a wonderful afternoon with my friend Donn. We met at Cricketers for lunch where I had been promised Chef Jen's Steak and Kidney pie, but that didnt' work out. No troubles though, Donn and I had so much catching up to do.

Sure did turn cold here. Keep warm all.

I think I could pull Enoch off better than Nucky. :)
Hey Laura! Good to see you! Glad you had a lovely day. Too bad on the Steak and Kidney pie. Is that the same place that they quit selling your favourite beer too? I'm going to go see if there are any coals left in the fireplace and start me a fire. Think it's time for a little glass of red wine to toast Friday night too. Cheers all!

oooh...I like Undercover Boss, too, and rarely ever watch since it changed to Friday night. Maybe I can watch it tonight. We get free movies on demand, but, they are not always something we want to see. I never even think to look at on demand movies OR pay per view when he's not here. What's up with that????

Already put a load of laundry in, and gonna try to get some housework done so I am not doing it tomorrow. Have to get groceries tomorrow, and that takes enough time as it is. lol Bryan had coupons laid out for me with instructions to try and save us a few dollars. Whatever. I wish I was one of those people you hear about that gets $600 worth of groceries for $1.95. lol But I'm NOT. Most of the coupons we get are not for things we really use. I'm lucky if I save $2 or $3 dollars on a couple hundred. Hardly worth the time and effort. Oh well. Won't hurt to look through them.

Janet, good for you on cooking good things for yourself. I'm way too lazy. I don't want to spend the time, effort or dirty the dishes. (At least I'm honest). I always mean to fix things he won't like...but...doesn't happen. I did eat a cream cheese and olive sandwich, which he would hate. :) That's a fave from childhood. My Mom got me hooked on those. Cream Cheese, Mayo, and sliced spanish olives. MMMM. Fingers crossed for Benj to find the right job. I'm glad he is doing so well. Sounds like it's a really good idea to be very sure before he signs a contract. Hmmmm....wonder if a Madras would make the housework go faster? Or put me on the couch? lol I don't think I'd want the name Nucky, either. We had a client named William Williams the other day. Seriously...what were his parents smoking? :)

Joce, I miss having HBO. It's been eons since I've had it...they used to have some good shows. I sure could go for some of Den's steak and fries about right now. That sandwich wasn't enough. I'd like a pb and j, but, not so sure that would set so well on top of cream cheese and olives....

Glad you had a good visit with Donn, Laura. I have never ever had kidney anything! Well...except for kidney beans in chili...does that count???

Well...I am about to sit here too long and lose my motivation to do some housework...I think that bus station bathroom in our hall is calling my name...

You and I are having a similar evening Lori. :) I have a load of laundry in too. Don't envy you on the housework. But at least tomorrow you'll be free. When Jim and I were first married I was totally into couponing. I even joined a Couponing club to trade and such. Used to save a decent amount. I might like that sandwich. And I get you on the effort of making an actual meal for one. Keep in mind I didn't have a full work day today either. But as I said earlier, I hate feeling like I have to put up with leftovers or scraping something together. And for the effort it took, it was truly yummy. Indeed a Madras is certainly in order. :) LOL @ William Williams. I still think William Williams is better than Nucky Williams. I have never had a steak and kidney pie either.

    Hi All
Sorry for the long silence - it has been about the most stressful January I can remember ever having. I hope to be back to normal life soon but right now my house looks like something out of "Hoarders: Buried Alive" because we have been spending all our time trying to keep up with my mom (that's her at Sean's grad last June in my avatar) and her ongoing issues as well as me spending about 50% of my time on the road. When she had pneumonia and was falling over Christmas she apparently cracked some vertebrae and with her brittle bones they aren't healing. When I got back from Saskatoon tonight I found out that she was having a lot of pain again and now I can't get an answer at the house which means she is probably at ER but no one else seems to know anything about what's going on - FRUSTRATING!!! To add to being out of town and worrying about mom, Roxann, our wonderful big dog, had a torn MCL in her hind leg so we had her referred for surgery to repair it but before we got the appointment we found what looked like a swelling on her leg about a week ago. They did some tests and found out it was bone cancer so on Wednesday we took her in. They did some more tests, felt that it hadn't spread so amputated her leg which was much better than the alternative but I feel so bad for her right now, three legs, big cone collar on and looking at me like I should be able to somehow help. In the middle of it all they did a reorganization at work and abolished a number of positions as well as consolidating some areas so that has been chaos too.
So here's hoping for a better month coming up :) sorry to be such a downer but just wanted to say that I will be back, but first I better find my floor and my countertops and make sure my house doesn't fall down around me and the leftovers in the fridge don't start walking out on their own.
    Have a great weekend everyone
