Chinese New Year Thursday

  • chuckieb 9 years ago
Good Morning Everyone! Just giving a nod to the Chinese New Year and Spring Festival. 2015 is the Year of the Goat. Benjamin brought me a lovely embroidered Goat to decorate my table for the New Year. Pic below. Picture in my avatar was taken by a guy we met in Taipei last year. He and his wife are vacationing in Central Taiwan at the moment and he took this picture of Cherry blossoms the other day. Such a difference to our vista here in Canada. :) It's a wonder Benjamin wants to return to Canada at all. :)
Had a lovely albeit long day yesterday. Great lunch with my girlfriend. Benj and I both chose the Boar sausage with sauerkraut for our starter. I went with the Hangar steak with fries and aioli for my main as did Jim. Jim had the mussels for a starter and my girlfriend chose the Potato leek soup and the slider. It was all wonderful as always.
Bopped around the Byward Market area for the afternoon and then grabbed a cocktail at the Lowertown Brewery. Jim and Benj tried one of their microbrews and I had a most delicious Caesar. Benj chose to eat there and had a Smoked meat sandwich and the largest fries I've ever seen in my life. :) And then the three of us went to "McLaren's" Pub on Elgin. Benj to his Language Exchange Meet-up and Jim and I in front of the Sens Game with a pizza. It turned out that no Chinese or Italian speakers were at the Language exchange so Benjamin rejoined us after an hour or so and we headed home. He was disappointed and said that he had wasted time he could have spent hot tubbing. LOLOLOL. Goodness I'll miss him.
So.....today is our last day. I'm making Eggs Benedict for breakfast. We'll wing lunch and then I'm making
    Rouladen
    and
    Spaetzle
for dinner. I have errands to run in town after lunch and my follow up with the Dr. at 2:30. Other than that we have no plans and are just going to have a nice relaxing day at home to enjoy each other's company in front of a warm fire.
Wishing everyone a most lovely Thursday!
Pic below of the Boar sausage over sauerkraut (the sauerkraut was ah-mazing, served cold? but the sausage was served hot). Also a shirt I passed by yesterday that gave me a grin.

How much does Geezer weigh Karen do you know? We had two cats prior to Benjamin being born. They were a bit annoyed when he first arrived on the scene but then got used to him pretty quickly and then loved it when he was old enough to join in petting them. Our male cat was very chubby and I think he reached 20 lbs. at one point. :) Re: your problems with Pinterest. When it first started up it certainly was possible to pin a pin twice or more on a board without realizing it but quite some time again it changed and now actually warns you that you have that exact pin pinned already on a certain board. If the same pin came from two different sites then that's a different matter but doesn't usually happen too often. And it's easy enough to delete a pin or move it to a different board.
Sorry to hear you had a rough day at work yesterday Laurie. People don't realize how insensitive their being sometimes. I'm glad you said something and at least doughnuts was a olive branch somewhat. I'll have to try remember to look for chicken sausages when I'm next at Whole Foods. Rolling eyes at the Kinder Morgan meeting.
I'm hungry. Gotta go start pulling out ingredients. :)

What a beautiful pic in your avatar, Janet! It almost looks unreal it would be an amazing site to see. Lovely looking Embroidered Goat Ben gave you as well. Too bad the language meeting was a waste of time for Ben, however it sounds like you had a good outing anyways. Does Ben leave tomorrow? Time sure flies when you are having fun! Just be thankful you have had such a precious time with him. Ben will really enjoy the Rouladen and Spaetzle for dinner tonight. Have a wonderful day.

Den has gone to get his haircut and will be going to our Butcher in Smiths Falls to pick up a bunch of pork chops and things. I am still not feeling the greatest so I won't be going with him. It will be a very bland dinner for me once again tonight.

Morning! Such a beautiful avatar picture Janet! The hangar steak was my second choice :) Sounds like y'all had a wonderful time and had some great food and drinks all day! You have a very nice dinner planned for this evening, enjoy your last day with Benjamin :) Lol love that shirt!

Hi Joce :) I hope you feel better soon...

Having a nice slow morning once again. For lunch I am thinking about making
Breakfast Bagel Deluxe then Caiden and I are going to Sam's to pick up a few things. Michael went to a “strike party”. It's just a bunch of guys from his unit getting together at someone's house and drinking beer and talking crap about the union lol. They sure did start early huh?! Haha! For dinner I'm making http://allrecipes.com/recipe/chef-johns-ham-and-potato-soup/detail.aspx then off to softball practice. Hope everyone has a wonderful day :)

Good Morning! Happy Chinese New Year. I'd certainly enjoy witnessing the New Year celebration in person.

Janet, your days have been jam packed. I admire your stamina with pneumonia, but time is fleeting and you have to make the most of each moment. Have a yummy day. Love the pics.

Michelle, boy I'd love to be able to bite a bagel. LOL I'd have to blend it. Now that potato ham soup sounds perfect for me. It is cold for us, mid 50's. Freezing temps for tonight.

Some day I will make a point of being in Taiwan when the Cherry trees blossom Joce. It is indeed an incredible picture. I love it. :) Yes, Benjamin leaves tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. I have teared up twice already today but shall try my best to keep a stiff upper lip. Nice on Den picking up some goodies at the Butcher. Sorry to hear you still aren't feeling great and have to eat a bland dinner. :( I shall send the "Good tummy" fairy your way okay? :)
Nice on the bagel sandwich for brekkie Michelle. Have a good shop at Sam's. LOL @ the Strike Party. That soup sounds yummy.
Hey Tina! I believe you prefer the cooler temps yes? Better for sleeping. Have you been watching any Cooking shows?

The pool man arrived and I had to pay him.

Joce, hope you feel better soon. I hate fibro. It knocks me out for three days at a time, easily.

Marie, I hope all is well. How is Rick's dad faring?

Karen, are the schools reopened? How are you faring in the cold? I know you like it better than hot weather.

Laurie, sending you good wishes for the new job. You don't deserve to be mistreated EVAH! I wish I could send you some warm sunshine to cheer your soul.

Dinner to be determined...it will be something mushy.

Hi all. Just a short minute - lunch is simmering (chili) and the guys are putting together shelves for the storeroom so I can clear out stuff from the future-bedroom-again and stack it on the shelves. Tomorrow they will probably finish working on some of the basic stuff. Like door frames - LOL.

Back! Lunch is over and Wayne is checking on the weather forecast.

Wow, Janet. It seems like Benjamin just got there and now he is leaving! So glad you guys had a good time and I am sure he will take good memories back with him. Geezer weighs about 15 or 16 lbs, feels like 50 when I tote him around! He is long haired tabby, has a squished in sort-of-persian look, some have has asked if he has Maine Coon Cat in him. He is lonely and needs a lot of TLC. He would NOT be good around toddlers since he would cheerfully clobber them if they were rough. Not that I worrry about him getting close enough to give them the chance - ha ha.

Most schools here are closed due to below zero temperatures. A few are open but not many. Low tonight is going to be a balmy -5 or 16 depending on which part of the site you look through. Light wintery weather is possible through the weekend from dusting to an inch of snow. Rain and thunderstorms are possible late Saturday. With some minor flooding. Snow late Saturday night ending Sunday morning. Like I said, if you live in MO and don't like the weather, just wait five minutes. The horse trough froze and Wayne chopped holes in the ice and replugged the heater so we hope it will handle it. Heater is on in the well house so it should be O.K.

See you later. Hi Tina - Michelle - Joce!!

Wow at your cold temps. Tina!

Hi Karen, y'all are having crazy weather too...

Breakfast Bagel Deluxe turned out really good! I put a review in the IMI. Sam's trip was successful. We almost were completely out of toilet paper, yikes! Was browsing recipes and came across Karen's Italian Cheesy Potato Corn Chowder so I think I'm going to make that instead of the other one :)

I like the cold weather. I've been snuggled in with the dogs. Poor Molly moans when she moves. She is my weather barometer. She can tell me when a storm is coming. Lola is just crazy. She had great fun watching the Westminster Kennel dog show. She made me laugh. Charlie is being super gentle with me. Skippy is a PIA. She wants her way or no way about going out in the cold. I will not carry her like Fred did.

A shortage of Thin Mints this year? Oh the humanity!
Our strawberry growers are in a panic over our strawberry cops. 37F for St Pete, 32F outside of Tampa tonight. It is very windy.

Not watching cooking shows too much. Looking at old photos and willing myself to rest and heal. My lip is peeling and scabbed. My jaw hurts badly. Called the doctor and waiting to hear....I shuffle and my gait is different, hence the falls.

Hoping Liv will come home tonight. She doesn't have a day off until Sunday.
    Take care my friends!

I haven't heard of shortage of Thin Mints Tina! Our troop sold a ton too. I'm glad we are pretty much done selling cookies..the stress of trying to collect all the money and get cookies to people is ridiculous. Now we just have cookie booths to look forward to, yippee, (not)! Crossing my fingers for you Liv shows up!!

Wonder if you can search 'mooshy' on the GR search words for recipes Tina? :) Gentle hugs. I used to watch the Westminster Kennel show when I was a teenager and I'm sure I'd still enjoy it now. A Canadian won it I believe eh? A beagle. Oh no on the strawberry crops. Our Niagara region has also got unseasonably cold winter temperatures this year and Jim was just wondering the other day if the grape crops would be harmed. I love the wedding photos you put on FB. So fun to look at. :) Hope you the Dr. calls you back soon.
Geezer's a good sized cat alright Karen. I always wanted a Persian. Never got one. Maybe still one day. :) Maine Coons are gorgeous too. And yes...Benjamin's visit has absolutely flown by. But I feel good knowing that we pretty much squeezed in every possible thing that we could. There were no wasted moments. :) Ugh on the horse trough freezing. :( Hope it goes okay.
I'll go check out your IMI review on the bagel recipe Michelle. Glad you had a good shop.
My Dr. says my lungs sound clear but she gave me one more week of antibiotics as she said a lot of people are finding pneumonia hard to shake this winter. Got all my errands ran. The Rouladen is prepped. All I have left to do is the Spatzle which is always a mess. :)

Hope you enjoy the Italian Cheesy Potato Corn Chowder, Michelle. The thin mints are the only kind of Girl Scout cookies I can't live without - LOL.

Janet, we had one Persian-type cat (not purebred) and they tend to be nervous kitties. Main Coons are very independent, I have only seen one full breed Main Coon and he was quite the character. Glad you are feeling better. -- Geezer was in the window again, so I brought him inside and held him for 20 minutes or so. He was wriggling all over my lap, purring, kneading, looking all around. Mel's nose was out of joint and he was miffed. Geezer is now in the window again, but he is not coming inside. Mel is mad at me - LOL - and is asleep beside Wayne. He's showing me his displeasure.

Weather forecast is changing - now freezing rain tomorrow and rain Saturday turning to snow - maybe - Sunday. COLD next week again.

Tina, your doggies are quite a comfort. Poor Skippy will survive having to walk herself outside. So funny wanting to be carried. Have you had any weakness on one side or speech trouble (other than the obvious from the fall)? Are you shuffling on one side only? Hope your doctor calls and gives you some answers. Take care and try to get some rest.
