Fabulous Friday

Well it is 8:00 am here so is it 8:00 pm where Janet is? Strange to think she is stepping in to the height of the evening just as we are starting our day.
I am all excited it is warm and overcast here and I am finally going to get to walk the nature center. I was a little afraid to walk alone the last time I went. I think the dead squirrel at the start of the trail spooked me more then anything. Anyway I am hoping to get my friend to commit to a weekly walk in all the different trails and parks we have around here. Bill use to do it but he stopped walking when his hip went bad and never took it back up after the hip replacement.
Janet they have 7-11's on the other side of the world? McDonald's too?
Let see, Janet, Marie, Tina, Shona, Joce, Michelle, & Laurie, and anyone I missed you Ladies have a fabulous day and night.

Hi, Good morning JJ! Enjoy your walk today! Lol, on the dead squirrel, that would have spooked me too!
Hope you had a good day today Janet! (it IS weird that she is ending her day and we are starting ours!) Last night at the fair they raced three different sizes of pigs, tiny, a little bigger and medium sized...none were huge. The pigs know that at the end of the race there is an Oreo cookie waiting for the the one who get's there first....so that's the drive for them lol! We spent most of the time at the carnival part though. Briauna and I ran off together and rode all the big scary rides that flip and spin. Michael who gets nauseous at the thought took Caiden on the toddler rides. Everyone was happy :) We had these fajita tacos that were SO GOOD! They used all thigh meat and the marinade they used was fantastic, and they offered up tons of toppings. Michael ordered some fried jalapenos, which I tried a few and they were good too.
Tonight for dinner will be something with bulk turkey sausage. Need to do some veggie shopping today. Have a good Friday everyone!

What a pretty tree JJ! Makes me miss my old house, we had two cherry blossoms that bloomed pink in early spring and the side of my yard we had a mini orchard with white flowering apple, pear and cherry trees. My Mom said all the daffodils, tulips, hyacinth, crocus and bluebells were already blossoming at my old place :( sniff, I'd be lucky to see a tulip here until the end of May! Enjoy your nature walk today Joey Joan, I hope your friend comes with you. Gosh, a dead squirrel at the trail! Last year we went camping near the Rocky Mountains and they had Bear and Cougar warning signs up everywhere. But being from Vancouver Island, we're aware of them all the time so I didn't think anything of it. So Pete is at the beach with the kids and I am walking the dogs through some trails. And right in the middle of the trail is a large bone, like a thigh bone of an animal that must of been a deer. I held my breath and sprinted back to camp! I didn't go down that trail again!
I'm like your husband Michelle, lol, Pete goes on the big rides with our son and I do the toddler rides with Sophia! I don't think I've seen a pig race before! I'm sure they have them here, we haven't gone to the Rodeos or Fairs here yet. They have something here called Westerner Days that sounds similar!
The weather has cooled down and we're suppose to get rain or snow today. I think I'll make some beef stew in the slow cooker for tonights dinner. I have to go back to the store and exchange the shoes I bought for the kids. I got them both a size too big!
I guess I can say Goodnight to you Janet! I hope you had a fabulous day and that you are well rested now :)
    Happy Friday to all!! :)

    Hello all:)

Joey, that tree is just beautiful..we have almonds in bloom in the valley..they are with with a touch of pink.

Michelle, I need to do some veggie shopping as well..I need some more kale for your Sausage And Greens Egg Bake I will (hopefully) be making for Sunday breakfast:) I thought I'd just use kale in this, should be alright??? I am now buying kale which has been cleaned, chopped & packaged..it's so easy:) I like to really go to town with the fresh veggies when our local Farmer's Market opens...May 6 I believe.

Shona, Wow on the rain/snow! We're in our shorts here. Spring has sprung:)

Rick will be leaving around 5:30 pm to go to Mather VA for his overnight sleep apnea mask thing..his check in is at 8:00 pm, check out 5:00 am..oy vey. Hope he knows where to go for his coffee:-) His little overnight bag is all packed, I add some snacks, granola bar, cashews & dried fruit. Hope he gets some sleep there:) He's going to his younger brother's house in Roseville which is only 14 miles away from Mather so they can go to breakfast together.

    Hi Janet!

Hi Joce, what are you up to today?

Camping scares the crap out of me Shona! Not only am I terrified of every little bug out there, I can't imagine having to worry about bears and such!
Wearing shorts here as well Marie :) Love it! Kale should be just fine on it's own! If I hadn't of had some spinach to use up the recipe would be Sausage a kale bake Lol! Good luck to Rick tonight!! At least he gets to look forward to have a visit with his brother tomorrow...
I have decided for Michael and the kids I'm going to do a sausage, potato, broccoli stir fry thing. I want to stuff a zucchini with the broccoli, turkey sausage and add a couple more things in there and bake for myself...

Good Morning (for me) Everybody! Mind you...it's Saturday morning!
How did you make out at the Nature Centre Joey? LOL @ the dead squirrel freaking you out a little. :) A walk in the woods is good for the soul isn't it! Yes, they certainly have 7-11's here in Taipei. There is almost one on every block and they do everything, postal services, food, normal shop stuff, faxxing, printing, etc. And yes, there's McDonald's and Starbucks too. If one is so inclined. It is weird though because the thing I eat mostly from McDonald's back home is a Sausage Egg McMuffin from time to time for breakfast and when Jim and I were in London, we went for one there, but it tasted different. The sausage part. So even though it's a standardized chain, I guess the ingredients sourced are just a little different. Gorgeous tree in your avatar? Cherry blossom?
OMG Michelle! I just woke up and it's a little after 6 a.m. here so I'm trying to be quiet so I don't disturb Benjamin and his roomies but I just about choked and laughed out loud picturing piggies racing to the end for an Oreo cookie. ROFL. That....is Hilarious! :) I'm with Michael and Caiden on the rides. :) And wow....do those fajita tacos ever sound awesome! So if you are not a fan of camping...did you not go out with Brownies or Girl Guides when you were young? I'm not inclined to do the camping thing now only because I'm old and want a proper mattress, but Jim and I did some camping in a tent when we were first married and then for a few years after Benjamin came along. And...if I ever got the chance to camp under the Giant redwoods in Calafornia ...I would. That is on my bucket list.
I have always wanted a pear tree Shona. It just amazes me to see pears hanging from a tree. LOL @ finding a bone on the trails. LOLOLOL. I am starting to feel like a real person again. I had an actual decent sleep last night and today we check into our Hotel and I think we'll sleep even better there so I'm on my way to normality. :)
Hi Marie! I'm surprised that your Farmer's Markets don't open before the beginning of May what with all your great weather but I guess maybe this year was a lot warmer than some for you. Good Luck to Rick with the sleep apnea thing and that's really nice he can get together with his brother and go for breakfast after he's all done. Will he be good to go more or less after they do this check?
Joce and Tina....hope you two are okay.
Waving to Laura and Connie as well as all the others Joey (good job on that by the way...you are really doing excellent with the names!) mentioned first thing. Do drop in and let us know how you're doing.

Thought I'd post that before I lost it. :)
I had a really amazing day yesterday. Benjamin brought us to his favourite breakfast spot yesterday morning and we shared pot stickers, Danbing (think kind of an omelette with bacon? in a crepe thing...I put a pic in my avatar), radish cakes (which taste kind of like hashbrowns. I thought they'd be disgusting but they were very yummy) and Milk Tea. Benj gave us a tour of his 'hood' and then headed off to teach. Jim and I went down for a couple of naps. We'd get our wind...head out and go to the park or to lunch and then come back and crash again. I pretty much felt like a stumbling zombie all day but was so excited to check everything out. :) Jim and I ate at a Taiwanese soup spot for lunch. Think Pho but it's a Taipei speciality. We were the only white people in there and man did we get the once over. LOLOL. We get looked at quite intently a lot to be honest as the neigbhourhood Benj lives in is outside the city and doesn't see a lot of tourists. But everyone is so open and welcoming it's very humbling. And they try speak a few words of English if they know it which is super sweet of them. The only thing Jim and I have mastered yet is how to say thank you and we are probably butchering that too. :) When Benj got home from work he brought us to the Night Market. OMG you guys! It was just incredible. Takes a good 30-40 min. to walk through and of course there are things there that I have never ever seen or heard of before....many, many things. Biggest revelation so far is that Benjamin is no longer vegetarian! Freaked me right out but I'm not at all disappointed. Just very surprised! So to see him eating fish balls and lamb skewers and such really freaked me out. LOLOLOL. I know it sounds funny but THE best thing I tried last night was Watermelon juice. The vendor makes it right in front of you in a blender with ice and it was to die for. Saw sooooo many booths for stinky tofu. Didn't try it and I'm afraid Jim just booted it past them as his stomach was a little wonky yesterday just because of all the travel and different things. :) We had some sort of soft shelled crab, deep fried and served with like a hot curry sauce over top thai basil leaves. Super messy to eat on the go though so that wasn't our wisest choice. At the end I tried a dessert crepe. A 6" crepe, not all that sweet, with shaved peanut type brittle stuff sprinkled liberally in the middle and then three small ice milk balls (so refreshing) placed in the middle and then sprinkled with fresh chopped coriander. They tightly wrap it up like a fajita so you just eat it in your hand. So very cool. It was super warm here yesterday 30C/86F, compared with our Ottawa temps. Very, very humid. After we ate Benjamin brought us to his favourite bar called "The Hammer". Run by a guy in his late '30's? who married a gorgeous Taiwanese woman and had an adorable little girl. He lived for some years in Canada and also in southern California and his bar is decorated with vintage California travel prints and he sells a Canadian beer too. Wonderful, jam packed day. Benj works until 12:30 today and then is going to get us sorted out on the Metro system and bring us right downtown to see the Taipei 101 building and such. Better stop typing. I'm being long winded. Big hugs to all. Take good care.

Good morning Janet! Not long winded at all, I enjoyed reading about all you've done! Wow, such cool and interesting stuff you've tried! A lot more adventurous then I'd be for sure! :) I could just imagine the zombie like feeling from lack of sleep and time adjustment. Hopefully you'll adjust after a good hotel sleep tonight. Lol @ Ben eating meat, he must have been waiting to shock you! Have a great day!
Hi Marie! I hope Rick gets some sleep tonight too :)
Hi Joce, Tina, Laurie, Connie and everyone! I hope you are all doing well and have a wonderful weekend!!
