Fantastic Friday!

Good Morning Everyone! Internet has already been down once this morning so I thought I'd pop on quickly before it goes down again. Have watered the tomatoes, weeded some of the interlock and changed the Hummingbird food in the feeder. It's a beautiful rain (except we still need rain! :))
Jim's first day of Holidays today so that means I'm on holidays too! :) We are thinking of going out to look for light fixtures for the kitchen this morning. I want to make something fun for dinner but haven't figured out what yet.
Kimmer, Congratulations to Michael. Such an honour. You deserve to be very, very proud. :)
Lori, how did your dinner with your friends go?
To everyone else....wishing you a wonderful Friday.

Good morning, Janet!! I love your avatar. That's priceless! Glad you are on holidays. That's always a good thing. : ) Something fun for dinner is definately a great way to kick it off. Can't wait to hear what you decided on. Good luck hunting for light fixtures. Hope you find exactly what you want. When will they come to fix the spot for the microwave?
We had a great time at dinner. Bryan actually went across the county line (only a few miles from home) and got some beer. Donna works at the courthouse and told us that once the polls closed they could start selling beer again. I have no idea what the reasoning is...one of those antiquated laws still on the books, I guess. They loved the burgers and the potato salad. We were stuffed, and didn't even touch the cake Bryan bought at the store. After 3 or 4 years Gary is finally getting a different shift at work, and beginning September he will be able to do things on the weekends again. YAY! We used to do stuff all the time before he started the job he has right now.

Kimmer you have every right to brag about Michael. That's awesome. Good for him on the test and also on his career decision. : )

Good to see you yesterday, Marie! Glad Rick's venture is going so well.

Joce, it sounds like you got some real goodies at the market and farm stand. UGH on the car repair bill.

So what is everyone up to today? No cooking for me. Bryan working tonight. He doesn't have to go in Sunday nite because they fly out at 8 Monday morning. I think he's taking vacation Sat night. He says he needs to "get in day shift mode" so he can get turned around to wake up early Monday morning. I don't know how he does it. I wouldn't know if I was coming or going. lol So, anyway...I will probably play in the recipes on the computer tonite, and find things he doesn't like for me to have for dinner next week. Since I won't have a computer while he's gone. : )

Have a great day! HEY to all not here yet.

Good Morning Lori! The kitchen company came last week and fixed the microwave cabinet and the other little things that needed finishing so my microwave is off the counter and back in use. Hurray! :) Glad to hear you had a nice time last night and YAY Bryan for going to get beer. :) Your dinner really did sound yummy. And that's also nice Gary will be back on a shift that allows you guys to get together more often! Fun that Bryan has the weekend off. There is no way I could do shift work. I just couldn't. When Jim and I were first married he was working at an Ironworks. He was a Machinist apprentice and he would work one week nights and one week days. It was hell. So glad the economy went south and he chose a different profession! :)
I'm having a devil of a time trying to think of what to make for Jim and I tonight. I've decided on a new recipe for Benjamin for Tofu and Steamed Greens. It's an Asian recipe. But no idea yet for us. Just had brekkie out on the back deck. Lovely breeze blowing but it's getting hot out there already!

    Good morning & happy Friday!

Janet, Yay holidays! I'm sure you 2 will enjoy. Curious to see what you come up with for dinner.

Lori, sounds like a great time was had by all last night! I know what you mean about fixing foods Bryan doesn't like while he's away, I do that a lot with lunch ;)

Ended up making breakfast for dinner yesterday. Home fries with onion, garlic & bacon, scrambled eggs with herb & spice havarti and some fresh grape tomatoes. I was thinking of making shrimp Creole for dinner.

Okay....it just came to me. I've had Luisascatering recipe bookmarked for a bit to try. That'd be kind of a fun Friday night meal hey?
    General Tsos Chicken
ROFL Dahlia at the ketchup container article. (And Good morning to you too!) That's hilarious. I never knew that. Plus it reminds me of something similar I did years ago. At the store we used to send one of the staff over to the Tim Horton's coffee shop across the street and bring us back a caffeine fix. I used to rip the little tab off the lid of the coffee so I could make a little drink hole, although sometimes I'd rip it in a bad way and end up with a really big hole, until someone shook their head at me and showed me that the tab actually bent back and attached itself to the cup lid all along. Who knew? LOL!

Janet, LOL your avatar is just too flipping funny:-) Gee I really hope you can find a pair of matching light fixtures that you love and are in stock this time! I bet you will come up with something very special for Jim's 1st day off starting his/your vacation. How nice to have breakfast out on the deck too! Careful when you are out as everyone will be in a rush to start their long weekend!

Lori, I was hoping you could find some beer somewhere:-) We used to have that law too on voting day! Apparently it stems from when the politicians wangle and dangle (LOL not that they don't still do that with false promises!) they used to buy everyone free drinks and with that all their votes! I just knew you would have a blast last night and very pleased you did. That is excellent news about Gary not having to work weekends! Now if we can just get that for Bryan too it would be just dandy and wonderful. Eh! Boo Hoo! He taking the computer:(

Dahlia, I love breakfast for dinner but yours sounds Wow! Over the top! LOL Ketchup cup article is funny:-)

Kimmer, Wow! Big Congrats to Micheal:-) You can beam with pride all you want he has done very well:-)

I am not up to much today. I should clean of places where things pile up like magazines and papers and stuff. I know Den wants a rib eye steak for dinner so that is easy on the BBQ and I will figure something easy for me.

It is National Nut Day! So feed your squirrels Janet:-)

Everyone Have a Happy Nutty Friday and Enjoy!

    SP Dahlia and Lori! :)
Dahlia your breakfast for dinner last night sounded splendid. I especially like the spice havarti part. I bought an 'aged' havarti this past week that was featured. It is to die for!
It's true one forgets that you can get a 'holiday' or 'special' feeling from just shaking up where you eat your meal Lori. :) Jim got a new cedar shed last year that he adores and I've been meaning to sit up a little bistro table out in it and serve him lunch there one day. The one year anniversary of him getting it is coming up so maybe I'll try do it that day. LOL.
Also have a hilarious story I forgot to share last weekend. About a week ago our power went out for just a short bit and when it came on our water conditioner got itself into a bad state. We may not have even noticed except that Benjamin went to make himself a cup of tea and when he took his first sip he ran to the sink and spit it out with great force. ROFL. Turns out somehow we got some salt up in the water pipes leading to the kitchen from the salt tank for the water conditioner in the basement. Anyway..............last weekend the three of us are in the Hot Tub and start to enjoy our glasses of Sangria when Jim announces that his tastes funny. And Benjamin agrees and says it tastes salty. I take offense because I made the batch and I said "Well guys...there was no salt in the fruit, the wine or the gingerale so there is NO SALT IN THIS", and then Benjamin gets a brain wave and realizes that we probably made a batch of ice cubes the morning that the water conditioner went wonky and they are now polluting our new batch of Sangria. :) What a waste! :)
Morning Joce! Nice to see everyone on here first thing! :) The little sign in my Avatar is on my front porch. I got it a few years ago. I love it too! :) AH HA HA HA HA.....your avatar is excellent too. Did you actually see that sign or download it? It's awesome. I've got to show it to Jim. :) Oooooo on the Rib Eye dinner. I'd love that too. National Nut Day hey. That's cool. The birds, chipmunks and squirrels have already been given their breakfast but in honour of this Event I'd better go throw out some peanuts as a special treat thanks to your information. :)

Dahlia your breakfast for dinner meal sounds fantastic. YUM! I never think to add bacon to my fried potatoes...and why not? Hmmm...If I can only remember that until the next time I fry potatoes...lol

Sounds like a plan for dinner, Janet! And LOL at the cup thing...it took me a long time to figure that one out, too. : )

Hi Joce! Thanks for the clue on the voting day law. I guess that makes sense. So is there a Canadian holiday coming up? Does Den get a long weekend, too? Ribeyes are my favorite steak. LOVE EM.

SP again, Janet! :) LOL on the salty water. I would have had the same reaction if they dared to say MY Sangria was salty knowing full well there was not one speck of salt in them! : ) I remember Jim getting that shed last year. Serving him lunch there would be fun!

    National Nut Day! Yippee!

Janet, that is funny about the coffee cups. I had a similar experience when trying to get a straw into the top of a plastic smoothie cup at a local bakery.. Instead of the x that I'm used to this one had a large circle that didn't appear to be perforated. I just looked at it for a bit, then my friend took the cup & straw and jammed it in :-) Also funny on the salty ice but a bummer too. Your dinner plans sound great! Aged havarti, huh? I'm intrigued. Is it still soft?

Joce, thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge :) How are you feeling today?

Lori, first I par boiled the potatoes, then cooked the bacon, then cooked the onion & garlic & finished the potatoes in the bacon grease, then added the cooked, chopped bacon. Wish I had some scallions to sprinkle on top.

Lori, This Monday is a Civic holiday only a few Provinces observe it but Ontario does:-) Yes Den will be home early today and will be off for the long weekend! Yeah! He has booked his some of has vacation booked for a couple of weeks in October and also two weeks at Christmas and another one for a week in February! LOL He hasn't been too busy at work I guess? Booking his vacation time early like that then he gets first dibs on his time off even if they are extremely busy.

Dahlia, Not having the greatest day today and didn't sleep much last night and hoping I will feel better as the day goes on. I won't bother with TMI... just did a lot of running last night! Thanks for asking:-)

I bought a garlic jelly once from the farmers market. I mostly used it to brush on/baste chicken breasts while cooking on the grill and that was pretty tasty.
Has anyone heard of bacon jam?

LOL Dahlia at the smoothie cup lid perforation. I'm glad I'm not the only one! :) This is the aged Havarti I had
    http://castellocheeseusa.com/cheese/castello-reserve-aged-havarti/
Yes, it's on the soft side. It's not a hard cheese. I see it's actually made in the States and it says people in Michigan can buy it in IGA and Spartan stores. Not sure how to read their 'taste scale' as to me it says that they say this cheese is a mild cheese, but it actually has a lot of flavour. I wouldn't call it mild. It even has a few little 'crystals' in it like a Parmiggiano Reggiano (excuse my spelling! :))
That's nice that Den is off early today for the long weekend Joce! :) Sorry to hear you didn't sleep well last night nor feel grand today but hope it gets better as the day goes on. I was so tired from all my staining that I went to bed at 10 last night and didn't wake up 'til 7:15 so got a good sound sleep in. :) I'll wish that for you for this evening okay! :) Garlic Chocolate chip cookies? That's crazy talk! :) The only thing I can think off the top of my head for Garlic jam would be on crackers with cream cheese? LOL @ the Garlic cough syrup too. Bet ya that's what Frankenstein uses! :)
LOL Lori. Thanks for the song. I blasted it so the sky outside would hear! :) Thank you!
We had success at the lighting store! Thank Goodness! It has taken forever. We had to order them as they only had one in stock and we need two. They're fairly plain but totally go. Now to choose a backsplash and we're done. Phew.

Janet, Yeah! Crossing my fingers they don't come back at you like the last few times to say they no longer make it:-)

I found this site which has more than 100 jams and preserves and a couple of bacon ones. I like the look of the carrot cake one:-) I am still looking for a crab-apple jelly which my Nanny used to make and one year she thought she did something wrong and it was the very best she made ever! The only thing I have done this year is make freezer strawberry, raspberry and blueberry jam and I would really like to be able to do something else soon.

Went to the Windermere Farmers Market for the first time today. THey had a wierd looking fruit called Dragon Fruit that was grown in Homestead, FL but origin is China. I have to go look it up. Didn't buy one. Rainy afternoon here. Mr has requested Taco Salad for dinner. Having a beer at WOB before I go fetch the fixings from the grocery.

Janet, LOL I missed it before when you said the sign was yours! LOL I was going to mention maybe you could buy it:-) The sign in my avatar is from the net but it is looking pretty close to the yellow lawns and countryside here though!

Laura, I only tasted a bit of the Dragon Fruit just a couple of months ago. It is very sweet and the fellow who gave me a taste of it works in our Foodsmiths store here. He said it had many healthy things in it and was very good for you. They are a really weird looking fruit indeed and the price for one was as I recall about $5.99? Enjoy your beer at WOB and oh I could just kill for a taco salad right now!

    Hey all
spent the whole day with Rachel it was nice. She has an am field hockey practice then we went to Salvation Army to look for a dresser for her. We decided instead of painting her room hot pink (she asked for this for her birthday) we would get an old dresser and paint it hot pink and put cheetah designs on it and replace the soccer border with a cheetah one. We found a dresser at the consignment store for $45 and went to Walmart and got hot pink paint and high gloss. then we went to Market Basket and had them steam 3 lobsters for us. We sat on the deck with newspapers and chowed. yummy Lobsters are glutting the market here so they are at an all time low of $3.99lb.
we hung out at the pool and went to mcdonalds for Icecream.
I have no desire to cook dinner :(. I didn't take anything out. We are going out for the day as a family tomorow so I don't want to spend any money but would love to go out to eat.

Laurie, sounds like a lovely day and $3.99/lb for lobster?! A true perk of living in the NE, huh?

So don't feel like cooking dinner.. Kris will be home soon, maybe we'll go out.

Decided to go to the Border Cafe for dinner, as we were in front of the place we ran into SIL and BIL and their two kids they were going to. So we ate together it was nice. Now if we tried to plan a night out together it would never happen. Frank said from now on when we go out we should just call people and say "we are going here ya wanna meet us" lol
I had catfish fajita, yumm, Frank and SIL had Burros and Rachel of course got her standard Ceasar salad (she is a cheap date) Becca wasn't there because she is over a friends house .http://www.bordercafe.com/
