Farewell Robin Williams

    RIP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDVceKdx1UY
Robin Williams was a true gift. The news of his death was shocking and sad. Depression is a cruel disease, robbing you of hope and ultimately your life. His comic genius and compassionate soul will be missed.

Doctors today for the both of us. Slammin Salmon Sandwiches
hopefully...depending on the energy level after our running from pillar to post.

    Take care, my friends.

Morning Tina. Lovely song tribute. I was just crushed when I woke up this morning and heard about Robin Williams. He was such a part of our culture. I'm thinking perhaps the most genius comedian in our lifetime. I feel blessed to have been around when he was and I hope he has found peace wherever he is. I can't even begin to understand how he could take that path and I hope somehow people manage to figure depression out so that in future this doesn't have to happen. Good Luck at the Dr.'s to both of you. Those sandwiches sound delicious. I love canned salmon. Good luck with the Attorney and filing suit for disability. So sad one has to fight for such a thing eh! Your spice cupboard sounds like a treasure chest. I'm envious and OMG on vinegar powder. Never heard of such a thing and that's such a cool concept. And you had me totally intrigued with Grains of Paradise. Did a little bit of googling. How cool is this?
Aframomum melegueta is a species in the ginger family. This spice, commonly known as grains of paradise, Melegueta pepper, alligator pepper, Guinea grains, fom wisa, or Guinea pepper, is obtained from the ground seeds; it imparts a pungent, peppery flavour with hints of citrus.
Melegueta pepper is commonly used in the cuisines of West and North Africa, where it has been traditionally imported by caravan routes through the Sahara desert, and from whence they were distributed to Sicily and the rest of Italy. Mentioned by Pliny as "African pepper" but subsequently forgotten in Europe, they were renamed "grains of paradise" and became a popular substitute for black pepper in Europe in the 14th and 15th centuries.
Today, it is sometimes used in gourmet cuisine as a replacement for pepper, and to give unique flavors in some craft beers, gins, and Norwegian akvavit. In America, grains of paradise are starting to enjoy a slight resurgence in popularity due to their use by some well-known chefs. Alton Brown is a fan of its use, and he uses it in okra stew and his apple pie recipe on an episode of the TV cooking show Good Eats. They are also used by people on certain diets, such as a raw food diet, because they are less irritating to digestion than black pepper.
I think you should pull it out and use some before the end of the week. :)
Jim and I are going to go out for dinner this evening. To
    http://rajaindiancuisine.co.uk/
Jim's been there a few times but I've never been and he says it's awesome! :)
Went for a jaunt down town this morning. What a beautiful city it is! I like to just go visit buildings I've seen in the past.....it's like greeting an old friend. The architecture here is just stunning.
Wishing everyone a really great day.

So sad when a life is taken because of depression. I lost an uncle to depression before it was even recognized as a disorder. He will be missed.

Wayne has an early appt. for routine bloodwork this morning. All is quiet except for the coffee pot doing its thing.

I somehow got inspired this morning: swept the floors, and even attacked the stand that has gathered dust and dog hair and assorted tools or their chargers for too long. The stand was a herculean task in itself. Kitchen floor needs mopping but the over-ripe bananas on the counter are demanding to made into banana nut bread before they keel over. So as soon as I have my morning coffee - growling will then cease - that is where I'll be. Hurry up, coffee pot!LOL.

Good Luck to Wayne on his appointment this morning Karen. You've been a baking machine the last couple of days. Love Banana bread!
This apartment isn't outfitted with a regular coffee machine. It has a French Press. Was pleasantly surprised how very good the coffee tasted this morning in it. That being said, I went without coffee for the last two days. Even had a caffeine withdrawal headache. Dish water might have even hit the spot. :)

Good Morning everyone!! We had the radio going yesterday evening, and we were all doing our own thing around the house and I thought I heard the radio guy say something about Robin Williams passing, and I really thought I just heard something wrong and didn't think anything else about it. SO SAD!!! :( RIP.
Hope your day of doctors visit's is easy on you Tina. Your sandwiches tonight sound yummy :) Yum the way that Janet described your Grains of Paradise seasoning sounds really good! You should try it soon and let us know what you think!
Hi Janet, I'll take the Peshwari Chicken, looks like something I could eat!! Sounds like your having a nice relaxing time :) Cool on the French press, glad it worked out for you, too bad you didn't try it out 2 days ago lol!
Your stand with all your chargers and collections sounds like my bedroom dresser. I don't know how but I can't keep stuff off of it. I know who to blame (Michael) but I can't get him to stop. He will walk in the bedroom and just empty out all of his pockets right there and walk away, GRRR! Kids leave there toys there too for some reason?! Anyway, your banana bread sounds yummy, I want some! :)
It's the usual today, swim lessons, grocery store run back home for lunch. Tonight I am going to give this recipe a try http://cavemanstrong.com/2011/08/not-your-typical-grandmas-paleo-meatballs/ over zucchini noodles. The cinnamon sounds interesting to me, we will have to see how that works out!! Wishing everyone a wonderful day!!

Such a fitting farewell, Tina. I was absolutely floored, when we heard of Robin's death on the news last night! How sad, he was truly was a brilliant man. I liked what Obama said about him. "He arrived in our lives as an alien - but he ended up touching every element of the human spirit ". So true. Hoping everything goes well at the doctors for both of you.

Janet, Very cool info on The Grains of Paradise. Enjoy your dinner tonight the menu looks like it will be really a good one for you two:)

Karen, You are the Baking Queen! All the breads you have been making lately sound just heavenly!

Shona??? I hope everything is fine out west?

Michelle, I hope the swimming lessons go well today. Those meatballs do look like they will be good. Let us know what you think of them with the cinnamon in them. Are you starting to feel any better on your Paleo diet yet?

    Hi, Bakerme:)

It was such a beautiful sunny day yesterday. Our drive to and from Ottawa was such a lovely sight. All the farm fields look so green and lush.
My eye doctor was pleased on how well my eyelids are coming along. I don't have to go back to him unless, I have a problem. He even gave me his personal cell number but, doubted very much, I would ever use it.
After my appointment, we went to Winners and I bought a new big colander, which I love. Also a set of stainless steel strainers and a big bowl, b/c I liked the design and pattern of it. After we got home I went out to my Farm Kids Stand and picked up another basket of tomatoes and another basket of new potatoes. We BBQed chicken breasts and had new potatoes and yellow beans for dinner last night. The weather has changed drastically today again! It has cooled off and is pouring rain and it is supposed to continue all day and into the night with an accumulation of possibly 2 to 4 inches! It looks like we are going back to nice cooler weather too with rain off and on for the next week. We had planned to have potato salad with deviled eggs and an assortment of cold meats for dinner tonight, but b/c the weather being so cool , we decided to put those plans on the back burner. Now we just aren't in the mood for it on such a cool dreary day. Dinner will be pork tenderloin something? I will let you know when I figure what I am going to do with it.

Wishing everyone has a great day!

Hi Michelle! The worst spot in my house that things magically transport to is a spot on my kitchen island. Mostly paperwork stuff. I see ads or recipes or magazine articles that I want to check out and I place them there and the pile grows and grows and grows no matter how often I cull it. :) Have fun at swim lessons and groceries. The meatballs do look really yummy but the cinnamon doesn't appeal to me and I'm afraid I'd also pass on the Zucchini noodles. You're a better woman than I. :)

Hi Bakerme. I have bookmarked your suggested recipe and as soon as I can get some eggs I will start another baking / freezing frenzy and definitely give it a try. Thank you for the tip. I made Banana Apple Bread - the recipe makes 2 loaves and 7 or 8 muffins. The loaves are destined for the freezer.

The cart which magically collects things is destined for the sun room where NO ONE is permitted to leave ANYTHING or else. It has not been a problem until the kitchen / sun room / living room projects started. Usually everything ends up on a lovely set of built in shelves in the living room - I neatify and remove stuff - it magically returns and brings a zillion buddies. Medicines gather to chat and see the scenery, I guess, because they belong in a cupboard in the kitchen.

I have thought about getting a French press. We used to eat at a nice place in Columbus, GA. which used one and we loved their coffee.

The loaves are cool and wrapped in foil and in the freezer until I can buy some freezer bags to label and store them. Then they go to the frost-free freezer on the back porch.

A.C. goes to the vet tomorrow morning. He acts like he has a urinary tract infection. I think he feels terrible and just doesn't know what to do about it. Poor baby. I closed all doors except where his litter boxes are so he is definitely restricted. And unhappy. And miserable. And dying to go outside and bully the other cats.

Rain is not due until Saturday, so Wayne is planning on mowing tomorrow, baling Friday. This is a test of the baler - they got it semi-functioning by the time they finished the field last week, so he will give it another run on our field before trying to bale for others. In the mean time we are hoping to find another one. His buddy has two people agreeing to be backup balers if his quits - one only does round bales and other has a baler in the same shape as our's.

It is a gorgeous, cool day. I'm thinking we'll have Easy Venison Spaghetti tonight. I haven't fixed spaghetti in a while and it sounds super good.

We got lunch between appointments. I'm not cooking tonight. We went to Steel City Brew Pub and I had a turkey burger, Fred had roast beef. I just need to get some rest and elevate the leg. My right ankle is huge.

Dr. said, "You could be experiencing some symptoms from drug interactions, if they continue to worsen or if your breathing becomes more impaired, go to the ER". In the meantime, follow up with pulmonary/sleep disorder, psychiatrist, neurologist and endocrinologist. Diagnosed with enlarged heart, moderate spinal degeneration (chest and neck), severe depression and acute anxiety disorder in addition to chronic pain syndrome.
Add that to insomnia, hypothyroidism, hypertension and weakness on my right side...I'm a mess. And of course, work wants me back at work tomorrow. Hell no, I won't go. LOL

Okay, time to get my foot on top of a stack of pillows and hope that the dog won't knock into me. Liv is home....not for long, but a brief visit is better than none.

    Take care, my friends.

Good Luck to AC tomorrow Karen. I'll keep my fingers crossed for good baler vibes. :) I love hay bales and take pictures of them in the fields all the time. Even have a page on Pinterest on Hay bales. :) Spaghetti sounds nummy.
I envy Fred's Roast beef Tina. I've had a craving for some lately....with Yorkshire pudding. And please do follow the Dr.'s instructions and head to that ER if your symptoms do worsen! And....do do all those follow ups. You owe it to yourself. They'll get this figured out. Just keep at it. Have a good rest. Cuddle up with your doggies.
    Heading to bed. Night all.

Olivia brought me a bag of serrano and jalapeno peppers. I'll be making jelly soon. Although my tummy says cream cheese stuffed jalapenos wrapped in bacon and broiled, I don't think it qualifies as low fat, low salt. Pepper jelly doesn't either, but you can gift jelly.
Poor AC. I'm sorry that he is having issues. I'm sure he is giving you fits. Wohoo on all the yummy baking, Karen. Fred just requested cupcakes. Not tonight sweetheart. Good luck on the baler, I hope it hangs in for the next couple of jobs.

Janet, I have the calendar filled with appointments. Believe me, I'm not capable of doing much else except the doctor appointments. Fred has eye surgery next Thursday the 21st and I'll have to do his aftercare again. Have a good evening sleep.

Fixing a dish of Greek yogurt with pistachios and chia for me. Fred is eating the other half of his roast beef.

Charlie and Molly got a new doggie dish today. It is elevated 15 inches off the floor. It will keep Lola and Skippy out of the large breed kibble and they will be forced to eat the tiny breed kibble. Fewer tummy issues all around. Liv said I was too much.....I chose gold enamel plated steel bowls. Sorry, kiddo, the dogs are here more than you are. Let me spoil them rotten. They make me happy.

    Sleep sweet ala Kimmer.

The new tractor was delivered. Scrunching in the cab with my hubby does not portend good so he will be solo in the fields. It is not designed for two. Ha ha. He is happy with the new one and will take it out mowing the lower field tomorrow.

Tina - take care. Enjoy the doggies.

It is getting late so I am off to fix spaghetti. A.C. is still restless and lingering by the door so when Wayne comes in he can dash out. Mel is asleep on the couch, Homer on the floor in front of me.

Janet, I forgot to say thank you for the Grains of Paradise information. I'm going to put it in my salt cellar and use it. Tomorrow on scrambled eggs. I'm sure I'll get a good taste of the real flavor with the bland egg. If it tastes just like pepper, it is the most expensive pepper that I bought. LOL
