Foodie Pics Friday

Good Morning Everyone! Chill-chill-chilly one here this morning. We're back to -21C/-5F although it is supposed to warm up to -7C/19F by this afternoon. Jim was supposed to meet a friend for lunch today but he just called and moved it to next week. We're going to try think of a jaunt to take instead.
I'm still all excited about this Vincent Price cookbook revelation. How fun Tina! That Treasury of Great Recipes" must have been quite the book to command that kind of money back in 1977!
"The Theory of Everything" was super good. Both Jim and I really enjoyed it and the actor sure did a fantastic job playing Stephen Hawking. We really grooved on the fact that a lot of it was filmed in Cambridge so we recognized tons of the churches, Universities, statues, streets, etc. which added another element. He is an amazing man with an indomitable spirit.
And you say the waiting list at the French Laundry can be up to a year Tina? Unreal. Totally makes sense about the amount of sugar used in a recipe in a crockpot might equal burning. Hadn't even thought of that.
I've never heard of Cameron, Alberta Karen.
While Googling Vincent Price's cookbooks yesterday I found a pin on Pinterest that showed Vintage photos of celebrities eating so I thought I'd share three this morning. Sophia Loren is probably the sexiest looking person I've ever seen in a kitchen. :) Judy Garland looks a tad maniacal with that fried chicken don't you think? And Frank looking suave as usual with that doughnut. :)
    Was going to make
    Jamie Olivers Chicken Korma
for dinner this evening but now it will depend on how late we are out. I'm also having a craving for a big steak. :)
Wishing everyone a great day! TGIF!

O.k. Janet, my typing or spell checker or cranial vacancy set in. The town is Camrose, not Cameron. it fits well with this morning! The refrigerator got bumped into demo mode and turned off. I saved most of the food. It will pitch Mayo and some leftovers, just to be safe. After a all to the company they walked us thru the steps to fix it. It is now running on put on child lock so this won't happen again. Aarg! ๐Ÿ™€

Janet, love the retro pics! I agree, Sophia Loren is such a beauty! She still is:) I really liked her in Grumpier Old Men..Ann Margaret was also in that movie, she's still as beautiful as ever as well:)

Hi Karen:) Love the term "cranial vacancy"! LOL..I can soooo relate:) Good that you were able to save the food in the fridge! Is demo mode "defrost"?

TGIF:) Hope everyone is well & happy..Rick has a few jobs today, I have to do some banking and pay some bills..also need to pick up some bread at the grocery store..among other things. I keep adding to my list..I need to stop:)

I just discovered the emoticon keyboard on my iPad! So cool. Now if I can just figure out how to get them to show a bit larger so I can see them! Aargh! Aargh!

The Theory of Everything sounds like a good movie. Glad you enjoyed it. Super cool celebrity photos. Yes the fried chicken picture does have a maniacal appearance. ๐Ÿ‘น.

This is so cool! Emoticons everywhere! ๐Ÿ‘€

Tina, how did your nails turn out? ๐Ÿ’…

    Hello everyone!๐Ÿ‘‹

Ugh on the refrigerator Karen. Demo mode? Glad you managed to save most of the food but not a nice thing to wake up to! Okay, Camrose I have heard about. Wikipedia says it has some of the richest farmland in the praires! It's not that far from Edmonton (56 miles), the capital city of Alberta. Came across this funny article this morning which kind of ties in too.....re: your Zombie Apocalypse bumper sticker. :)

Yum on turkey pepperoni pizza for dinner Marie. That sounds wonderful.

Demo mode is when the features light up but it doesn't cool. That way customers can see how the digital screen operates. So now it is on child lock so it doesn't do this again!

I will look up your web site for the zombies survival in Canada, Janet.

SP Marie! Grocery shopping is necessary evil! I about had heart failure at the price of beef. Even ground beef is sky high! Fortunately we have venison and pork in the freezer so I am not buying too much beef.

And I avoided sprinkling emoticons all over even tho there are some cool pictures of cows available!

Yikes is right on the price of ground beef. Ground turkey and ground pork are my subs.
I need coffee, badly. And I woke up hungry. Always an unhappy start to the day.

Back in 1977 I worked at a fine dining restaurant and walked home with good tip money.....a splurge book was easy back then. It is a treasure. Love the pics. Sophia is gorgeous.

I want to see the movie even more now.

Cajun red beans and rice for supper. Fresh strawberries sliced over angel food cake.

I would love to see your cow emoticons Karen. I can't see the little emoticons that you posted in your other thread. They just come out like little boxes on my end? Lucky you having treasures in your freezer so you can avoid the high beef prices.
I'm going to leave the Cajun red beans and rice for you Tina but I'll certainly join you for the strawberries over angel food cake. I can also bring some ice cream. :)

Just had an hour and a half chat with Benjamin on Skype. He'd brought back some Valentine's Day candy to give to his students and of course our candy is very different from theirs. The Hershey kisses were a huge hit but the kids were disgusted by the cinnamon hearts, spit them out and ask Benj why he would ever buy such a thing. :) Too funny.

I remember those days, Tina! No cares, money grows on trees, easy to splurge! That book certainly is a special treasure! No ideas about supper but will probably use up the ground beef in something since it is thawed. Depends on what transpires today since the stove guys are not here yet and it is almost eleven.

I have three loaves of banana bread and some muffins in the oven. Muffins are from leftover batter. Still have thawed bananas in the refrigerator to use in the next day or so.

Janet, I looked up the zombie site so if zombies attack (shaking head, rolling eyes) we know where the best escape routes are! Bwahahahaha!

Jim decided he lacked enthusiasm for a jaunt so the Chicken Korma stands. :) Just came in from a pre-lunch Hot Tub. Catching some rays out there this afternoon and stocking up on Vitamin D.

Have a fun jaunt today, Janet. Sophia Lauren is absolutely beautiful! How is your mouth feeling today? Too funny about what the kids said about the cinnamon hearts:)

Karen, LOL I love โ€œCranial Vacancyโ€. My mind is so vacant it is for rent:) Good thing you figured out what happened to the fridge and can put it in child lock mode. I don't know if I would like a computerized fridge or not? Seems like it might end out with more problems in the end maybe or maybe not? YUM! I bet your kitchen smells good with all that banana bread and muffins cooking. I should get out some of my frozen bananas and do the same thing with them soon.

Marie, Sounds like you are going to have another busy day. We haven't had pizza in ages!!!

Tina, It think it is awesome you have had that cookbook so long! It has raving reviews!
I found a couple of them on Ebay I am keeping an eye on. We shall see? I will pass on the beans and rice but will be all over your strawberries and angel food cake. How are your strawberries there since that frost scare?

I made a borscht soup for lunch and it was really good. I think I will keep out one more bowl for tomorrow and freeze the rest. Den will probably have a rib eye steak for dinner with oven fries and I am so stuffed from lunch at the moment, I haven't a clue what I will have for dinner. LOL Maybe more soup:)

I'm feeling a little sorry for myself Joce thanks but for the most part I'm just fine. Stupid stitches are annoying and the roof of my mouth is stinging a bit today but perhaps that's it just healing. I bought some frozen peach yogurt bars and that feels nice on it. :) Nice on the borscht. I've never made that. I'd love a Rib eye with oven fries. How bout you? How are you feeling today?
Jim wants to go for a skate. Off I go.

I want to see the Theory of Everything it looks so good, waiting for it to come out on Netfix.
I can see the emoji's karen. Maybe because I have the feature on my iPad too?
Lol my new fridge stopped making ice in the freezer. The upper portion was still working but the ice bin was empty. We tried on and off switch, re-setting it and pushing random buttons for days. And you know what it was??? The bucket that catches the ice was in backwards lol!!!
So I don't know if I told you my SIL got a new job in the assessor' office at the town hall. She knew someone and he told her about the position. He texted her today and asked if she knew someone interested in an accounts payable position at the Fire Station. So she is telling about me. Fingers crossed it works out. I need a less stressful position lol
Tonight's dinner is unstuffed peppers.Rachel has field hockey tonight.

No fair you can see the emoticons Laurie! I'm on a Mac, you'd think I could see them. That'd be awesome if you got in at the Fire Station. Fingers crossed on my end. Good luck to Rachel on her game.
Jim decided he lacked enthusiasm for a skate so is now having a cat nap in the wing chair. It's that kind of day I think.

Do you have to rinse your mouth with salt water, Janet? You are right it is probably healing and pulling at the skin on the roof of your mouth. I think I have had stitches almost everywhere in my mouth but not on the roof of it. The skin is so tight there! I just can't imagine how annoying it must be! Where did you find frozen peach yogurt bars? They sound very good indeed! I might have a smaller tenderloin steak with sauteed mushrooms and a baked potato or leftover scalloped potatoes? I find rib eye steaks too big for me and I don't car for oven fries. If I have fries they are fried. There is something about oven fries the texture or something I don't care for? LOL Den could eat oven fries everyday if he could:) Have a fun skate, it looks nice out there, even though it is cold.

I see some of the emoticons, Karen however they are all squares?

Laurie, It would be really cool if you were able to get that job at the fire station. It would be less stressful LOL unless you are looking for a penny to balance:) I know what you mean about the ice bucket being in backwards:) It has happened to me!

Yes Joce, I have to rinse my mouth with salt water after every meal, take Aleve every four hours and the antibiotic every eight hours. I got the frozen peach bars at Sobey's. Very nummy. I'm dying for your dinner. It sounds amazing.

I just got an offer for 80 lbs. of acorn fed wild pork, not boar at @ 4.00 a lb. I need someone to share with me. Yikes

    Good luck Laurie.
    Feel better, Janet.

Janet, I think the reason some of you are not able to see the emoticons is because I updated the OS system on my iPad to 8.1.3 and that is when it appeared. So any OS previous doesn't recognize them. I imagine that my older laptop would not see them either. Don't know about the new one. My iPad is an older one, Gen 2, and I was surprised that it could have an update. Have wondered about getting another, newer model but don't knowv if I want the mini, and the upcoming one is a whopping 12 inch screen, according to one source.

Good luck on the Fire Dept. Job, Laurie.

Steak of any kind sounds good, Joce. Borscht would be really tasty!

Marie, cranial vacancy is a perturbing state of mind which appears. Far too often.

The stove was delivered and the work will be done to install it tomorrow. It is quite pretty with the sea foam color frame. Am looking forward to being able to use it. The first fire will be a small one, I guess to break it in.

Today was one of Homer's off ones. He ate, but didn't seem interested when they delivered the stove, and didn't go to the barn with Wayne. Just dozed most of the day.

Janet, you did say have a Mac, right? I thought you were planning to get a new laptop or am I confused (not an unusual state of mind - LOL). My new one sees the emoticons. I'm thinking it is the OS version which determines it. Will have to ask our daughter the computer guru.

I'm on the laptop now, So much easier to type, etc., but I keep trying to touch the screen instead of use the cursor. I like the iPad and my old MAC's size better, smaller and easier to balance on my lap. But the larger screen is easier on my eyes.

Hi all! I had a busy day. Also a busy evening, had to go and decorate Caiden't T-ball float for a parade they are having in the morning. I think I blew up 30-40 balloons and my fingers hurt from tying them off lol! The parade is at 8AM and we have to meet up at 7AM where the parade starts. YIKES!!! Not sure, but I don't think many people are going to get up that early on a freezing Saturday morning to come and watch it. Of course though Michael and Briauna will come and my parents are coming as well. They may be the only people we get to throw candy too lol :) Tomorrow also opening ceremonies for both kids....of course they are at separate fields. We will have a lot of driving back and forth to do tomorrow, between both the kids games. Dinner tonight was pizza at the Coach's house. Hope everyone had a wonderful day today :)
