Friday's Focus

  • chuckieb 8 years ago
Good Morning Everyone! Is everybody sleeping in on this most glorious of Friday mornings? It's gorgeous here in the Ottawa Valley today but going to be hot, hot, hot! 28C/82F forecast again for this afternoon.
I've fed my birds, chippies and squirrels and swept the front interlock. Figure my lawn looks so nicely mowed my front walkways should match. :) Had poached eggs on toast for brekkie.
Not sure what to do for dinner tonight although I do have a steak for Jim and I to share and two small lobsters in the freezer. It is Friday afterall, that's a good reason for a celebratory dinner isn't it? :)
I should really try split pea soup again Tina. I had it as a kid and didn't like it but I was a lot fussier when I was a kid. LOL! The Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary sounds awesome. Are you going to head to the Bon Aire tonight to visit with Liv? And what is a Cheeseburger in Paradise pray tell? :)
Go you on the new exercise class Karen. It's great you're giving it a whirl.
Doing 5K in under 40 min. sounds pretty fast to me Laurie! Mind you I've never run so have no comparators. :) Good for you!
Neat that your Grandpa was a United Church Minister Michelle B! Sounds like you did get the anti-malarial drug of choice. :) Do stay out of the sun. Have fun at the cooking class tonight. A shame you'll miss the eating part! :) Have a good time in the Solomon Islands. Can't wait to hear about it!
Jim and I had a lovely jaunt yesterday to Almonte. Spent some quality time in the local library and went out to the graveyard and found some more relatives. :) Had dinner at a Cuban Food Truck. The Cubano's were horrible. I was so disappointed. :( But the tilapia fish tacos were excellent so it evened out I guess. :)
The Naturalists Club meeting was a hoot and Jim and I actually became members. The talk given by the woman from the Bird Care Centre was a lot of fun and she brought along an American Kestrel in a cage as a show and tell item. (Pic below of him zeroing in on me taking his picture) The Kestrel's name is Indigo and was injured badly so can't be released. He has full rein of the Bird Care Centre along with a co-hort Turkey Vulture named Violet who she didn't bring along as she said when turkey vultures get excited, stressed or scared, their first reaction is to throw up. LOLOLOL.
Today I'm just puttering around doing this and that.
Wishing everyone a most lovely Friday.

Good morning Janet:) The best peas soup I have ever tasted was in a restaurant down south called Andersen's..here's a link to a copy cat recipe :http://toriavey.com/toris-kitchen/2012/09/andersens-split-pea-soup/
We went there when I was just a wee little girl:) Love the stuff:)

I'm waiting for our GD delivery, Rick is in Yankee Hill, the next hill over from us on a service call.

We are going to the Air Force Maintainer's Annual Picnic tomorrow in Yuba City..kindof a reunion of all the AF maintainer's (people who worked on the aircraft) We've been the last few years and Rick seems to enjoy it...

Maybe grilled turkey burgers and some grilled potato wedges for dinner? I'd much rather be having lobster Janet!!!!

Need to check on a revised estimate e-mail for our order..of course they don't have the 14 ga punched angle in stock so I ordered an even heavier angle..I don't know if Rick will want that, might be TOO heavy of a gauge for hanging openers..he's not answering his phone..might be out of the service area..so I MAY or MAY NOT be in trouble:)

    Happy Friday to all:)

    Good morning.
The Kestrel is adorable. Poor baby - so lucky he was rescued.
Other than a few aches from the exercises, today is starting off pretty decently. Wayne is out brush hogging one of the pastures and I am supposed to be doing laundry but took a break. Ha ha.
It is gorgeous outside, sunny and not too warm. Expect rain tonight and colder temps. We could use the rain.
Our fire chief is gone for the next 10 days on a job, so we are hoping all stays quiet.
Kittens were hyper this morning - into everything.
    Best go. Happy puttering!

Well Rick called and I did get in trouble:-D..LOL Not the first time fer sur...Sooo I called our supplier and told her to remove the heavier angle off of our order....we'll hopefully get it next time..they have it at their OTHER shop, but didn't have time to go get it...whatever, we've had this order in for days..looks like someone could have picked it up for us...sigh
Love that you will be getting some rain Karen..we are looking forward to more this Fall & Winter:)

Thanks Marie! I pinned the recipe. Andersen's looks like an AWESOME place! Love it! I remember you mentioning that Air Force picnic in the past. Hope you and Rick have a fun time. Your dinner sounds lovely. I've decided not to do steak and lobster after all. Found a couple of lamb steaks in the freezer that look like they should be used asap before they get freezer burn. Will prepare them like
    Spicy Cumin Lamb Chops
and now I have to think of sides. I don't think you'll be in trouble over the heavy guage angles. Better too heavy than too light of a gauge I'd think?
Good luck with the laundry Karen. I'll keep my fingers crossed all stays quiet on the fire station front. :)
Planted some Hollyhock and nasturtium seeds so we'll see if they come up next year.

I hope you get a chance to make the pea soup Janet..it's absolutely delish:)
Rick uses heavy ga angle, the other I ordered is almost TOO heavy for using to install openers though and a lot more expensive, especially when you order a few bundles:) Our supplier said Rick is the only one who uses the heavier ga so I think that's why they don't keep it at the main shop... I've noticed that a lot of "other" GD guys use the cheapest angle they can find..I don't understand that! Looks like they would want their jobs to last...Rick uses quality materials..always. That way you have satisfied customers and that gets around that he does a good job..word of mouth is everything, especially is our area:)
Oh how cool on planting Hollyhock & Nasturtium seeds! That is always a pleasant surprise when they do come up..I sometimes forget I have Iris bulbs everywhere until they bloom:) They were my Grandma's Iris bulbs..very old but still bloom each year.

I have leftover blackbeans and I'll fix a salad for supper. I have some mushrooms that I should saute, maybe over a piece of toast.

Allison liked the split pea soup and she was a hater when we were kids.

Marie, I don't know if I would be able to order the right gauge angle. And re: other installers choosing cheap, I think that is unfair to the customer. I hope the picnic reunion is just as fun as previous years. And good that you get a break from routine.

Karen, I have rampaging dogs, after a day of steady rain these furry beasts are running around the yard in celebration. I do hope you have a quiet next ten days while the chief is away. Thanks for the advise on the guns. I appreciate it.

Janet, I'm happy you got to put some seeds in the ground. Nice that you joined the Naturalist Club. Ugh on the turkey vulture reaction to stress. Lamb steaks are a lovely dinner. Thank goodness Olivia likes lamb as much as Fred, I like fixing stuff she will eat. Cheeseburger in Paradise is a Jimmy Buffet song and when you are sitting on the Gulf of Mexico at a Tiki bar, every cheeseburger is one in paradise. I think Jimmy sings a line in the song...."I like mine with lettuce and tomato...."

Michelle, I hope you don't get too homesick. Super nice picture on FB about the Papua New Guinea Independence celebration. Look forward to your nest trip and pics.

Laurie, such a good cause for the 5k run. Awesome.
Shona, hope everyone is well at home. Crazy weather.
Michelle, you are the best mom dealing with teams and all that a sport entails.
Joce, hoping you are feeling well.
Kimmer, hope things have eased up for you? Hugs, dear lady.

Happy Friday to all. Get your weekend going.

Ha! Janet, look what was posted today:) Andersens Split Pea Soup

Tina, Yum on the sauteed mushrooms on toast:) We love creamed chicken or creamed tuna on toast for a quick meal..Very nice to make split pea soup for Allison...I'm sure she enjoyed it:) I have always loved pea soup..especially when it's super thick like Andersen's:) Brings back some nice memories of going there with my little sister and Mom & Dad..I need to make some:) Oh! Your doggies got to go outside and play today! Maybe they will run off some of that energy from being inside during the rain!!!!

Janet, after looking closer to the split pea soup recipe just posted here , it doesn't mention running the cooked peas etc thru a food mill or blender..that really needs to be done to get the consistency of Andersen's...it's a very "smooth" soup:)

I used a stick blender and should have used the regular blender, it took forever.....I didn't have Fred to reach the big one from the shelf.. Every thing must be smooth for Allison. The Schwan's delivery fellow just left. Veggies in the house. I like the salmon burgers a lot. The grain crusted fish is very good, too. Olivia likes the mac and cheese for one. NO ice cream and no cookies. Lemonade, yes.

Hi everyone! Just got home from a long day. Started off running all over town trying to find the right size Softball pants for Briauna. Problem was they had her size, just none of them had belt loops for her belt! Why??? I ended up getting her a pair of boys pants (sssshhh, don't tell her) and they fit perfect! Made a grocery store run and then came home to get an early dinner made. Taco night! Caiden then had a scrimmage that went so well, the kiddos played baseball like they were little pro's :) :) I had to be in the dugout the whole time so it was really hard for me to pay attention with 10 rascals running around. I can't wait to get the little baseball name tags for the fence so they will have assigned seating, things should move a little smoother then. After that we rushed to Bri's Girl Scout meeting (first since March I think), which we were late to, but what can one person do!? Michael's working nights, can you tell? :) Now we are hanging out on the couch, finally, and the kiddos are playing Mario Kart on the Wii :)

Lamb sounded great for dinner Janet! So cool on you and your ancestry! Cool on the Cuban food truck, sucks it was only half good :( Neat on becoming members of the Naturalist club! Wow that bird is so pretty, glad he was saved :)

Haha Karen, I always feel like I'm “supposed” to be doing laundry :) :P
