Fried Chicken Friday

  • MissouriFarmWife 9 years ago
Good morning. Wayne, Homer, and I are in the sun room. It is cloudy and the sun has just peeked over the horizon. A cup of hot Keurig coffee is beside me. The Blue Jays and Cardinals are swooping down on the porch to see if any dry cat food is available.

Today is Fried Chicken day - Wayne and his buddy have some fire department errands to do in town and are stopping by Church’s chicken to pick up a 9 or 10 (don’t recall which) piece box of fried chicken on the way back. While they are gone I will whip up some potato salad to have with it.

I finally got the recipes added. The granola one took a bit of work because the recipe I thought I had written down wasn’t anywhere to be found. But they are finally done.

Thought about naming this “Freedom Friday” or “Free the Raccoon Friday” but decided that happened yesterday so it is Fried Chicken Friday. Wayne thought “Restless Feet Friday” should be appropriate because he thought my feet were twitching all night and waking him up. But I elected not to.

    Hi to all.

    Tina, how are you?

Good Morning Karen! Lovely pictures. That raccoon is just the coolest thing. The eyes are a little creepy though eh? Wayne looks very comfortable in the sun room. I have my first cup of coffee beside me as well but the only bird that I see outside is a Mourning Dove in the Fly-through feeder. Yum on Fried Chicken. I could totally go for some. LOVE a good potato salad too. I'll go check out your recipes in just a bit. LOL @ you waking Wayne up all night. Your Roast turkey breast with mashed potatoes sounded yummy last night.
Sorry to hear work has been so stressful for you Laurie. Ai yi yi on over 100 leaks. While the three of us were out and about yesterday we walked by a home that had a company there trying to clear ice from their shingles. I suspect it was a water dam just like the ones you were describing. There was a guy up on a ladder with a hammer?/mallet? bashing the ice off. It was really thickly coated on. Nice on your lunch yesterday! Is Becca all better?
I'll have to keep my eye out (and try and remember) for eucalyptus oil. I do love the smell of eucalyptus. Yum on Chicken Noodle soup Shona. Can never go wrong with that on a winter's day.
I have my Dr.'s appointment this morning and then we are hoping to make it to an afternoon showing of "The Imitation Game" and then go for dinner at The Lone Star. Jim's brother and family are arriving late tonight to spend the weekend with us.
Hope everyone has a great day.

The above sites showed cinnamon raccoons. I think ours is albino, with the pink feet - nose - eyes, but the coloring is similar. His eyes show evidence of cataracts so he may be older than we thought, but he has been around since 2013 and was full grown then, not youngish. So I imagine he is at least 3 years old if not older. We call him Blondie!

When Wayne's buddy trapped him he brought the trap to the house and called me outside so I got some pictures. He was not very aggressive, just mellowed out on the ride to the house, and only a few growls to let us know he was not interested in being messed with. He doesn't run as quickly as a normal raccoon, which I read was a side effect of albino raccoons. Also the cloudy eyes concern me a bit, not that I can do anything about it. He was quite happy to get out of the trap and escape into the forest.

Blonde is such an incredible looking creature, Karen and Wayne does look comfortable in your new sun room. It is very cold here they are saying it feels like -25F at the moment, but it is very sunny out there! Yum fried chicken and mashed potatoes sounds very yummy for dinner to me. Very interesting links about the albino raccoon too!

Laurie, Good grief I hope you don't get another foot of snow!

Shona, Thanks for letting me know about your Grandma and the eucalyptus oil.

    Tina???

Janet, Enjoy your movie and dinner out at the Lone Star tonight. Don't overdo it with all your company this weekend. Is it just adults coming or little kids too? Keep it simple and let them do some work as well. You don't want to be feeling worse this coming week, if you are all tuckered out. Please try to take it easy if you can. I hope all goes well at the doctor this morning too!

I am having lobster for dinner and Den will have a Rib Eye steak and oven fries. LOL maybe I steal a bit of his steak and have Surf and Turf tonight:) I think I might make Den a chocolate cake for his birthday tomorrow, I will have to hide it if I do:) He is such a big chocolate hound!

    Wishing everyone a Happy TGIF!
Plus it is Friday the 13th!

Hi Joce - Janet - Michelle. (SP Janet ?)

Too bad about the nasty headache, Michelle. No fun.

Lobster sounds good, Joce. No idea what I am going to fix tonight, not much since we are having fried chicken and potato salad for lunch.

Janet, echoing Joce's comments - not to overdo this weekend. Lone Star for dinner sounds life fun.

I have no idea what the weekend will bring. Our winter advisory now says nothing Monday or Tuesday, snow on Sunday. Depending on the site, the chances are 40-50-70 % and 1-3 or 5 or not much accumulation. Guess we will see when we see. GS is in a swim meet in St. Louis so hopefully it will not be cancelled and/or they will be out before the snow hits.

I was looking at the Radar view and it looks like the worst is hitting Chicago and going east towards Laurie:( They are forecasting 1 to 2 inches of snow in St. Louis they are used to it and can handle it a bit better. So far it doesn't show anything going towards you yet, Karen. However, you have been saying you need it.
We are supposed to get more snow overnight again too! Enough already!!!
I decided to make Den's cake tomorrow, then he won't be picking at it. LOL when I went to my hairdresser the other day, there is a drugstore nearby. LOL I bought him an expensive Valentines Day Card and also a BD card, plus some chocolates. Now we shall see what he says when the shoe is on the other foot:) Egad now I hope he doesn't buy me a big Valentines Day Card. LOL I will kill him:) I sent him a couple of e-cards he will get tomorrow as well. We will go out for dinner a couple of times this week when he is off.

I have no idea what we are doing for Valentines Day. Probably nothing! Definitely not eating out. We are due for snow Sunday, now. Nothing due today or Saturday. Tuesday's low should hit 0F and 4F the following day. Brrr! Guess we get our warm parkas out. St. Louis usually gets clobbered worse than we do for whatever reason.

Sorry Michelle, I missed you there! I hope your headache has gone away by now. What kind of food do they expect you to bring with such a last minute request? They are nuts to expect anything! Just shaking my head:(

Least favorite words at the moment are "YOU Have to". No, I don't. I don't want to talk. I don't want to go out. I don't want to put on a happy face. I don't want company. I don't want to write. It takes every effort to even take a shower daily. I don't want to eat. I want to throw out the tons of mail. I want to be alone. I have so many well-meaning friends telling me what I have to do, I'm going nuts. Let me grieve in my own way. It is too soon to conquer these battles. The doctor doubled the antidepressants Thursday.

I made a huge pot of chili for our cold spell. I figure in my most Forrest Gump manner, we can have a bowl of plain red chili, chili over rice with sour cream and green onions, chili with cinnamon and a dash of cloves (Cincy style)on spaghetti with cheddar, chili on a bun (add some chili sauce to make it more sloppy joe), chili on a baked potato, chili in green peppers and baked, chili ziti with dollops of ricotta, chili omelette, chili dogs, Chili frito pie. I believe I'll be eating it plain and not fussing about the variants. It took too much effort to open the cans of tomatoes and dump them. Thank goodness for a crock pot. It can just sit there til I rise again.

I swear the dogs can read my mood and they just surround me with warm breathing bodies and let me stroke their ears for hours. I am bundled by canines.

Sorry to be such a downer but today just isn't a good one for me.

    Hi, Tina.

Hey, bad days are part of it. Today seems to be an especially bad one for you. That is O.K. - you are entitled to have a bad day. Your doggies are definitely sensitive to how you feel. Their cuddles are meant to be comforting. It is good you are stroking them, they need reassurance and you are giving it to them at the same time they are trying to give you their affection, in their own little doggy ways.

Chili sounds good. Love it with sour cream and green onions. I can forget the ziti - hot dogs - etc. If I lived closer I'd bring you a bowl of pumpkin chili to try.

It is wonderful that you have friends who are concerned about you, even if they sometimes miss the mark. Sometimes people just don't know when to offer advice and when to abstain from doing so. But at least they care.

Hug your doggies for me and tell them they are doing a good job of loving you.

    Thinking of you often.
