Friends Coming Friday

  • MissouriFarmWife 8 years ago
It is a quiet Friday morning. Had a good nights sleep on the Easy-Bed. I think I am going to like the massage and wave features! Just finished a cup of coffee from the Keurig, and if I remember to buy coffee at the commissary we will have regular coffee again so I don’t have to either clean the Keurig individual thingy or use the not-environmentally-sound little plastic containers.

We mostly finished mowing yesterday - Wayne will do touch ups and some barnyard mowing while I go to the commissary to pick up groceries and entertainment stuff for our company. We have a long standing tradition of wine and crackers and probably summer sausage. They should be here about 7 P.M. She is diabetic, so I will include veggies and such. Thinking of mixing a crab-spread using the (OK all you purists don’t look) fake crabmeat and cream cheese and such. It would be good on celery sticks or crackers and takes little prep. I have to clean the BR and relocate kittens to a new nighttime sleeping area — we have a large crate that they can occupy overnight so guests don’t have to stumble over the little monsters.

Looking forward to Silver Dollar City tomorrow. I hope they enjoy it. The good thing is it is so huge that they can go their way if they want and we can meet up wherever, which is good if we have seen a show/performer before.

Must go. No time to dawdle this morning. Have until about 6 P.M. to do everything that needs be done. Have a nice day.

Hi, Hope your weekend with friends goes well for you and you can relax a bit. You do more in a day thean I do in week . Whatever you make and however if it tastes good no problema --- I do have a thing about cream of soups in recipes though -- I can't think of anything worse --- Just my quirk.
Today after dog walk --- my usual as little as posible but I may have to clear out a gutter of all the pine needles clogging it. - Bah!!! Sigh!!
Tonight is a curry night with chapatis. We both love curry. Have a great day. cheers

Morning! Glad you had a good nights sleep Karen! Michael is a huge lover of a good summer sausage. Our FM has the best homemade stuff and he could eat it all day with some smoked cheddar :) Have a good time with your company!

I don't like cream of soups either Don! I like to make this though if I really do need a “cream of” Make It Yourself Condensed Cream Of Soups I am a curry fan as well, yum!

Caiden rode the bus today, sob. He was so adorable, I packed him a book to look at on the bus, Bri said it's about an hour ride total once they get to school after picking everyone up (our neighborhood is the first stop). I need to go get more ink for the printer because both of the kids have projects due on Monday involving printing out pictures. I feel like this is a little early for projects but it's fun anyway :) Making http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Kris-Amazing-Shredded-Mexican-Beef/Detail.aspx?event8=1&prop24=SR_Title&e11=kris%27s%20amazing&e8=Quick%20Search&event10=1&e7=Home%20Page&soid=sr_results_p1i1
tonight and need to stop by the store for some lettuce to make lettuce wraps out of it! Also making a pico to go along with it and some black beans. Hope everyone enjoys the day!

    Ahhhhhhh, it's finally Friday....

Karen, you sure have a lot on your plate today! Your appys sound perfect! I, personally, love "krabmeat"..! Sounds like such a lovely evening you all have planned:)

Ha Ha Don..Karen does have a very busy life with her farm....I do envy her! Animals galore and lovely home in the country..lots of work for sure, but well worth it:) I also envy you as well! What a life living by the ocean! And all of the fresh seafood..we don't get that here in the California foothills! I just bookmarked Dqs Jalfrezi Style Chicken Curry..it sounds delicious! Had to chuckle when you said you needed to clean out the gutters of all the pine needles..NOW, that we do have in common! Have a most lovely day Don!

Now gosh darn it..I don't know what to have for dinner once again:) We had a load of doors this morning, Rick will be gone doing an install..I need to pick some things up from the grocery store and go to the bank to make a deposit..

    Happy Friday everyone!

Can I just say.....LOVE the chatter thus far this early in the day! Yay! :)
Morning Karen! I would LOVE massage and wave features! So awesome! Have a wonderful time with your visitors! Don't push it too hard today. I know I too run about like a whirling dervish before company comes too. :)
Pine needles in Spain too eh Don? Neat.Looks like it's a universal thing. :) LOVE curry. Sounds delicious.
Wow on a hour bus ride for Caiden! That is a lengthy one alright. Too cute! Your dinner sounds great for a Friday night Michelle! Yum!
Good luck to Rick on his install. Have fun running errands Marie. You've had a busy week as usual.
Jim and I had a super fun time last night. The Gladiator exhibit was good and I learned the Museum has an environmentally 'green' roof planted with grasses. Very cool! Dinner at the Tapas Bar was excellent. Braised beef crostini, SMELTS with a caper aioli (I finally got the nerve to try them! Liked them! What was I afraid of?), Mussels in a seafood cream sauce and to finish, garlic shrimp with a touch of white wine and chili peppers.
Off again now to breakfast at the Lake. It's a little quaint spot on the Ottawa River we go to on occasion. Then a Costco run as it didn't happen yesterday then back home to clean the house which is in DIRE need!
BBQ Beef Ribs and a Beet Feta salad for dinner this evening. Have a great day everybody!

By the by....I messaged Donna this past week to see how she and Brad were making out with those fires in Washington. She said that they were good, but their 40 acre property was definitely threatened. She says they're sick about it and worried they'll lost their trailer, quads, outhouse and all their beautiful trees. :(

Good morning Janet..sounds like you had a lovely evening..Love the sound of a Tapas bar!
I do hope they get a handle on the wildfires in Oregon..it's
such an awful thing to have to go thru,,A few years back, Rick's Mom & Dad had to stay with us for 2 weeks when we lived in Paradise, they lived the next hill over, Yankee Hill, and a fire was raging..his shop and a guest house was burned down, but the firefighters did save their home..his dad did an excellent job of making defensible space on his 40 acres..he was a Fire Captain during the Watts era in LA, and he had a sign posted "Fire Truck Parking Only" at their place..so I think the firefighters were pleased they saved the home of one of their own...he actually had a 1942 Fire Truck at one time..we used to ride it in parades...

Oh No Janet! I hope Donna's property will be ok! I thought last night it was clearing up as I could see some stars, but then this morning it looks as smoky as ever. The rain we were suppose to get never happened :( I do hope they can put out the fires soon!

    Enjoy your visitors Karen!

Aww Michelle, I'm sure he'll love the bus! We live too close for the bus here now but Sophia loved it even though it was over an hour ride, she misses seeing her friends.

I have to take Sophia to her school's open house and drop off school supplies ( A giant box and back pack full!) Our parents couldn't believe that was all going to the school, lol!
Then off to go grocery shopping and find something for dinner! Sounds like we're in the same boat Marie! :)

Don, this looks so good! Dqs Jalfrezi Style Chicken Curry My husband and I were just talking about Curry and how I haven't made it in sooo long (since my daughter was born, 8 years!) I really need to make this! :)

    Have a great day everyone!

Hey all. Glad you checked on Donna, Janet. I was concerned for her too. Nice story about Rick's dad, Marie. Fred's dad was a firefighter in Philly. We have a copper fire extinguisher, his station photo and his leather helmet on display in our family room.

All of the Friday night plans sound equally awesome.
Karen, I quite like "Krab". The real stuff is cost prohibitive. Love summer sausage and cheese. Yummy. Good luck on the kitten containment. Glad you got a god night's sleep.

Don, I share an aversion to "cream of" soups. It is sodium laden and my ankles can't deal with it. I like your philosophy on "what to do?" with your day. I love curry.

Michelle, an hour long ride is tough. I'm sure you heart aches a little seeing your little ones growing up so fast. Ugh on the ink for the printer, I need to refill my cartridges too. Are you getting ready for your beloved Texans football season? I;ve got some black bean soup in the pressure cooker. I'll just have to steam some rice and make the Las Feria salad and we are set for supper.

Marie, I'm glad to hear that garage door delivery was timely. I know waiting for deliveries can be irksome. Good luck on the errands. Have a great Friday and weekend, dear. Busy busy!

Janet, so nice to hear the tapas menu. Smelts sound delicious. I adore all the little plates to share in tapas. Cool on the "green roof" at the museum. I adore breakfast out especially at a quaint place on the river. Have fin at Costco, let me guess, birdseed for your feathered friends.....I always overspend and overbuy at the bulk stores. I've been ordering through Amazon Prime and I appreciate the delivery and not depending on Olivia for toilet paper and dish soap.

Joce, Shona, Michelle B. Hello and happy weekend to you.

Allison's PET scan showed no spread of the cancer and she starts radiation on Monday. 35 sessions, five a week. Lynda told me to get Desitin for the skin burns.
Ashley, her daughter, is taking her for the first one and I'll help with the other sessions.
Both Donna and Lynda tell me more than likely she will be able to drive herself. I'd be there for moral support. We will have to stock up on Ensure, jello and puddings. Cancer is a lousy way to diet.

    House hunting continues.

Well, I can hear the pressure cooker valve rocking and rolling, I's better go turn down the heat. Take care friends.

Oh, on the vermouth discussion for the blasted tomatoes. Vermouth lasts forever. I've had the same bottle for two years. I keep it in the pantry just for the tomatoes recipe and for sauteed mushrooms with butter, shallots and thyme. It works in all seafood preparations. Julia Child called it her secret helper. She used it whenever a white wine was in the recipe and she was out of wine.....the horror. It us a fortified wine that adds a little something extra to the recipe. And finally, Olivia showed me a trick on making the perfect dry martini. Chill the martini glass, add a tiny bit of vermouth, swirl it and toss out the vermouth. Shake your gin or vodka with lots of ice and pour into the vermouth scented glass. Add a blue cheese stuffed olive, viola, perfect martini. (Cheers to Pat........"This too shall pass" ......miss you dear).

Wow on Rick's Mom and Dad's home being under siege from a wild fire Marie. So scary! Glad it was saved. Very cool on the 1942 Fire truck.
Hope Sophia has fun at her open house Shona.
Cool on Fred's Dad's firefighter stuff Tina. Especially the copper fire extinguisher. Your dinner sounds lovely. You know I love that La Feria salad. And yes...you're absolutely right. I got birdseed at Costco (plus eggs and water). Showed good willpower. :) That's wonderful news that Allison's cancer hasn't spread. Sending prayers your way Monday and we'll be thinking of her. Good luck with the house hunting.
Chapatis aren't as popular as Naan bread where I live Don. In fact I'm not even sure if I've had Chapatis. I'm sure I'd like them. As long as one has something to mop up the yummy curry with you're good right. :)
I saw your vermouth mentions in the Blasted Tomato IMI post Tina and I copied and pasted for future. LOL @ Julia saying it was her secret helper. Well...if it was good enough for Julia it's certainly good enough for me. And yes...."Cheers" to Pat and her martinis. Miss her too.
Had a wonderful breakfast at the lake. Eggs over easy, toast, hashbrowns and sausage. I am STUFFED! Grabbed a couple of groceries. Costco was crazy busy as always.

It's actually a longer ride for Caiden because Bri's school gets dropped off first, then daycare get's picked up, THEN Caiden get's dropped off. Phew, long ride. Got the running around done for the day, now on to the house work :)

Marie, I used to love “Krab” meat as well but I haven't had it in so long that I don't even remember what it taste like lol, I'm guessing crabish?! Haha! Good luck running errands today!

Cool on the Gladiator exhibit Janet, glad you had a good time! I'm so happy you tried the smelts, I saw that on the menu and I would have been squeemish to try them. BUT Keni talked about them back in the day, how they were bigger than anchovies but very much smaller than a regular fish...I would give it a go if I came upon it on a menu! Glad you liked them, I want to try some now! Yum, I love mussels as well :) Yum on your dinner! Crossing fingers for Donna that they don't lose their home....:(

Wow I can't believe your just now doing open house and things Shona, it seems like forever ago I did that, but it was just last week!! Oh yes school supplies was a hot mess this year for us, of course I couldn't find everything in one trip it took about 5! Good luck!

Oh wow, Hi Tina!!!! :) :) :) Yes my heart aches so much, I can't believe my little guy is at school all day! Yup watching the Texan's pre season, so far 1-1. Die hard fan here, I think I have 6 Texans shirts to choose from now to wear :P Glad to hear Allison't cancer isn't spreading. You are a great friend to help out :) Good luck on the house hunting, I just know you will find the perfect one soon! Love the vermouth tips, I will definitely pick up a bottle next time I'm at the liquor store :)j

    Love curry Don!

Good morning all - (Saturday a.m. here) hope the day has gone well. Last night we made naan bread and enjoyed it while watching some old Babylon 5 episodes we have on DVD - kind of a nice quiet evening although there were constant drums in the background from some kind of religious festival that sees groups marching through the streets carrying symbols and beating drums. I am still working to figure out exactly what the festval is but the drums are going again as has been the case for three days now.
Shopping day today at the market for fresh food for the week. We are doing lots of curries so pumpkin curry, eggplant curry and maybe something with fish are on the list for the next day or two.
Janet your photos of the museum exhibit are excellent -- would love to see it!
Hearing about school starting and school bus rides makes me realize how much different it is not having defined seasons here compared to at home. Fall is always so busy!
    Have a great day everyone

    "Go Texas" for Michelle. :)
Morning Michelle B.! Cool on making Naan. I've never done that. Cool on the religious festival too. Your menu sounds great and your Market sounds fun. Indeed Canada definitely has its four seasons. You can actually feel a teeny bit of fall in the air here this week. One small maple tree in the back yard has already turned a lovely orangey-red.
Because I love Festivals and because I also love to google things :) I tried to figure out what's going on in Fiji now. I think you're in Suva right? I think it could be the Hibiscus Festival.

    Hey all
I too share the aversion to the "cream of------ soups"
I didn't cook we got take out. I had a chicken kabob salad with feta cheese.
I love smelts. The best I ever had were in Italy when I stayed there over 26 years ago.
Franks mother used to make them when she lived around here for the Christmas Eve feast of the fishes.
The kids grow up so fast it seems like just yesterday Rachel was starting kindergarten. And now she is going into her senior year and looking at colleges. Sometimes when I see a little two year old curly haired girl I get a little teary.
I have a job interview tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Just made a breakfast date with Gordon, Tyler's last day nurse. He has some of Tyler's ashes and he wants to return them to me. He has moved and he doesn't want Ty's ashes to get lost in the shuffle. He felt we could take to the family plot in Philly when we take Fred's.

Laurie, good luck on the interview and congrats on the running, Yeah for you.

Believe me, looking at Liv tugs on the heart strings. Where did that wee one go?

Michelle, I don't know if drums all day would be to pleasant. My dad scarred me for life by taking me to see James Michener's Hawaii. It was too violent for my age at the time. I certainly know that drums can be happy but as impressionable as I was, my first thought is "uh-oh, trouble brewing" Now a Hibiscus Festival would be lovely.
The curries all sound good. The lack of seasonal change is a culture shock. We have blazing hot, very hot, hot and not so hot weather. Of course, we have hurricane Ericka to worry about this week. Our ground is saturated and any more rain will make us flood again.

Michelle, big hugs to you. I feel for you having Caiden go to school all day. Go Texans!

I'm going to make peanut butter cookies. A tradition for hurricane hunker down time.
