Get your Freak on Friday!

  • notyourmomma 9 years ago
With Halloween fast approaching, I asked the daughter about her plans for the work costume party? Again, she has not given it any thought and it will be the last minute panic at our house. The gentleman who did her airbrush make-up previously has passed away and it was a sad day on the beach to lose such an artist.

Our bride and groom from last year's Halloween bridal shower will be celebrating their first anniversary on Oct. 19. Jill and Matt just announced they are expecting!

I'm going to try and get some cookies made today. Talked to Allison yesterday and she got me all nostalgic over Grandma Plaza's filled cookies. If I can sit at a table, I can fill and roll them.

Liv is having a few girlfriends over for binge watching of their "show". They are ordering in pizza.
Fred and I are having stuffed cabbage rolls, finally. The pan is defrosted and tonight is the night.

Throwback costumes from our Halloween past.

Morning Tina! Love the thread title! LOVE the pictures! The pic of Fred made me think of Red Skeleton! :) Congrats to Jill and Matt! :) Cookie making sounds like a lovely plan for the day. What are your Grandma's cookies filled with?
Jim had a 7 a.m. call so the morning began a little earlier than usual then I drove him into the Park n' Ride and went to run a few errands. Had breakfast at McD's. It was CRAZY busy! Hardware store, Flower store, then Groceries.
And I stopped off at the Post Office too as my box from Matt & Steve's Extreme Beans arrived. I'm so impressed. They sent me a replacement 1L jar of the Extreme Beans Extra spicy, then 2 smaller jars, one dilly beans and one Sweet and Savoury? and then a complimentary container of Caesar rimmer as well. Now that's taking care of your customers! :) I'm a happy camper.
No cooking for me this evening. Think we'll try get into
    http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/250/1434134/restaurant/Centrepointe/Baan-Thai-Ottawa
before we head to see David Suzuki at the Centerpointe Theatre this evening. (I'm very excited)
Anyone got any exciting plans for the weekend? Tina, I know it's your birthday Sunday! :)
Hope you got all your house cleaning done Shona and enjoyed your pizza for dinner!
Glad to see you back Karen. I've never heard of anyone deathly allergic, or even mildly allergic to onions, tomatoes or apples. My Brother-in-law however, once announced that if he ate mustard (like French's mustard) he bled from his ears. (Ya right) Glad you got your SIL home. Cool on the John Deere Pavillion. My Dad would have liked to have visited that.
Sens won last night against Colorado. Fun game.
Wishing everyone a fun, freaky Friday! :)

    Good morning:)

Tina I love your Halloween pictures! The hippy costumes are so cool! Yum on baking cookies, I need to do some baking this weekend..we adore cookies:)

Janet, you have accomplished quite a bit already this morning! Feels good to get all the errands done so you can hopefully start your weekend a little early:) Have a wonderful dinner..I'll check out Urbanspoon's menu here in a minute:)

I'm going to get a haircut and also need to run to the bank & grocery store for some weekend food:) Rick wants to grill some chicken, he likes to half a whole chicken add some rub and grill...easier than a whole cut up chicken:)

I don't know what's for dinner..Friday's are usually take out pizza from our local pizza place, Red Lyon Pizza here in Magalia http://www.redlionpizza.com/..their pizza is excellent..go figure:) I have to say, the ridge is not known for their excellent restaurants.

Joce, hope you special day was wonderful:)

    I better get going!

Olivia was given a special shirt to wear tomorrow work. Notre Dame College football team will be playing Florida State University Seminoles, both are unbeaten teams at 8:00 p.m. Her boss is Notre Dame Alum. The T-shirts say "Catholics Against Criminoles." On the front it says "Get your Drink on" So those are her plans. She works Sunday, as well.

I hope you have a lovely dinner out. Yeah for your Sens! What a nice package of Pickled Beans and goodies. Good customer service, indeed.

No plans for my birthday. It all depends on my energy level. Olivia thought we might use our gift card to Red Robin on Sunday after she gets off work, but Scotty might have plans that would take precedent.

I can't find my recipe for Grandma's Cookies. I don't remember what I named them!! I think the cookie is a cream cheese, butter, flour, tiny bit of sugar, pinch of salt. The fillings are one of three, poppyseed, chopped sweetened pecans, or seedless blackberry jam. Of course, now all I can find is the pierogi recipe. My memory is so bad.

Have fun at the Hairdresser's Marie and good luck with your errands. I was just thinking recently that when I buy a whole chicken I should start cutting them in half before I freeze them. Jim and I used to be able to almost polish off a whole chicken but don't come close these days and I think it'd still be great to either grill or bake 1/2 chicken! Yum on Pizza. I could go for that! I think I would go for the Creamy Garlic Chicken Pizza. :)
LOL @ the shirts the staff are wearing at Liv's workplace. Your Grandma's cookies sound delicious Tina. I hope you find the recipe.

Loving the hippy picture Tina! Good luck to Liv figuring out what to wear for Halloween. I used to hate when I waited tables and they wanted us to dress up. I just wanted to get to work and get my job over with, and not have to wear an outfit doing it, plus I didn't have the money to waste on it. Congrats to the expecting parents! I first read “pizza” cookies and I was puzzled wondering if they were sweet or savory or both. Then I re-read and saw PLAZA cookies, okay, makes more sense lol!

Wow Janet, busy day so far! That is cool that the bean company sent you all that stuff! I agree, awesome customer service for sure :) I don't see a menu on Urbanspoon, but I do see one of their popular dish is Duck Curry, so I'd go for that. Have a good evening out!

Hi Marie! Lol, that pizza place has a pizza called “The Garbage Can” that's probably what I'd get considering I can never have too many toppings on my pizza, I love them all!

Yesterday was fun. The 2 boys played together very well and the parents seemed a little more lenient than I remember, but still strict. He get's one chance to do the right thing, or he gets in big trouble. There is no 2nd chance for that poor 4 yr. old.

Yay, it's Friday! No homework, no dance, no gym, no getting up at 6 AM! Just hanging out today. Michael is sleeping since he starts nights tonight, so we are trying to be quiet. It's a beautiful, breezy day, so I took Caiden outside to play and instantly my allergies kicked in and I was miserable, sneezing and blowing my nose for the entire hour we were outside. WHY!!!?? I really would just like to enjoy the day please, that's all I'm asking for.

Dinner tonight is Tina's Grilled Shrimp In Garlic Chili Sauce along with some veggie skewers. Kiddos will have their choice of dinner since they both think shrimp are hideously disgusting, even though they've never tried them. I'll just keep telling myself that one day they won't be so picky :) Anyway, have a great day everyone!

I used to love to dress up for Halloween at the Hardware store each year. I was a Giant Happy Face once, a witch with really gross warts on my face another year, and I'm sure I've told about the year I wore one of those robes with a mask that hide your face with netting. That one especially freaked the customers out. :)
You're right. I can't find a menu either Michelle, but I did check them out on Trip Advisor and the Duck curry got rave reviews as did some squid recipe that Jim will probably like. Glad to hear the boys had fun yesterday. Hurray on no activities for you tonight! Sorry your allergies are bugging you. Your dinner sounds fabulous.
I'm all for letting kids run loose and having a good time but where I do get annoyed is when parents let their children 'take over' and run rampant. Again when I used to be at the Hardware store some parents would allow their kids to literally run in the aisles. A Hardware store is not the right place to have a child unattended. Poisons, large nails, hammers, saws, need I go on? And what about the parents who'd ignore their kids who were saying they needed to go potty and then ask us to clean up the floor once a mishap had occurred. Seriously? Rant over. :)

Janet, a woman who used to work with me could not eat ranch dressing because it had onion in the ingredients. She would go into shock. Everyone marked their dishes onion or onion-free at pot lucks. Our daughter goes into anaphylactic (? sp.) shock if she eats a raw tomato - even a seed or if the lettuce touched the tomato can cause problems.

    Tina, cool costumes.

Wayne is ready to go so I best scram. See ya later.

I'm back..my hair is short! Love it short ..kindof like Hallie Berry's most recent haircut..although I don't look anything like her..darn it... http://www.pinterest.com/pin/325385141802064437/

I'll try to remember to take a pic once I color my hair..ahhhh, love that I took after Dad in the gray hair dept..Mom's is darker than mine:( Anyhoo, I need a touch up!

Instead of pizza, I'm thinking of making Pat's Chicken Enchilada Bake I'm feeling like a comfort casserole:)

Michelle, I believe The Garbage Can has EVERYTHING on it..way too much for me..I like cheese pizza..with fresh basil & tomatoes:) Rick likes lots of meat on his "side " of the pizza..

Janet, I bet you looked adorable as a happy face!!! That's so cute!

Tina, when you find that cookie recipe, maybe post it here in GR..that's what I did with Mom's Peanut Butter Cookie recipe..soooo much easier to find..BTW, sounds like a killer cookie!

I need to go to the grocery store now...I just want to get home and VEG after that...hopefully:)

Oh my, Janet. that is a ghoulish costume. I love a good witch with warts too. My favorite. The funniest part of our costumes, is that those particular outfits were in our CLOSET! Fred wore that wild shirt back in the 60's. The leisure pants were his Dad's. I told you he was a hoarder. And rant away! That is what we are here for.....express yourself.

Michelle, Enjoy your shrimp! I'm glad Caiden had a good play time. Poor you on your allergies. I hope the Zyrtec kicks in for you. I'm happy you have a quiet night and no running from pillar to post this evening. Hope you have a great night. LOL on pizza cookies, just like me with the BEET salad. Where's the beef?

Marie, good luck on the errands. And the haircut....poor Liv doesn't like her last cut at all. Pizza is always good. Good idea on the half chicken roasting. Although when we cook a whole one, I use the leftover for chicken salad. Found Fred in the garage trying to get the opener back on track! I'm going to put a bell on him to keep track of where he is getting into trouble.

Olivia and I are going to try and put together a loveseat, it is a Mission style with wood and cushions. I gave up on the saggy couch of the dogs and got me something firmer to sit on. Allen wrench awaits.

Still can't find the cookie recipe.

Wow on your daughter going into shock if she eat a tomato Karen, or the lady with onions. I honestly never heard of anyone being allergic to those things before!
That's an adorable hair cut Marie! Good luck with the Groceries and a comfort food casserole sounds yummy too. I just had to turn on the heat again. With no sun for the past few days the temperature in the house is starting to drop. :(
Good luck with the loveseat Tina.

The cream cheese dough instead of the yeast variety and I'll make the nut filling of ground nuts, honey and cinnamon. I do remember they froze beautifully and once defrosted Grandma P would dust them with tons of powdered sugar. My mom preferred to bake them with a decorative sugar, the bigger crystal.

Wow, Karen, that is a scary allergy to deal with. Have a good day, dear.

Janet, Fred is swimming. We are reaching 83 today. I know, UGH! And yes, I need a bit of luck on this loveseat. Liv is cranky.

Marie, very cute hair. I'm ready to go short myself. Make sure you get us a picture.

Oh! Those are such pretty cookies Tina! :) Yummers on the ground nuts, honey and cinnamon. Perfect! SWIMMING! It's 14C/57F here, cloudy and gray! Bleck. Ikea furniture usually needs Allan keys to put it together and it's always a PIA. I wish you better luck. :)

I agree with you Janet on wild children. There is a line where a child is hyper and a child is just wild. I would NEVER let my kids run down store aisles, ESPECIALLY at a hardware store, what are the parents thinking!? I think the worst for me is when parents let their kids run around at a restaurant and believe me it happens a lot! LOL, my brother has that same costume! He wears the mask part only now every Halloween and comes trick or treating with us and the kids. He's 24. LOL!

Wow on your daughter and the tomato allergy Karen. So does that mean she can have them cooked?

Chicken Enchilada Bake looks great Marie, simple too! Lol the Garbage Can has 13 toppings. Okay that may be a little too much, even for me lol. Cute hair btw!

Tina, the Zyrtec has kicked in some and I'm starting to feel a little better. I find if I take the Zyrtec right when I wake up it works better than if I wait until I'm in a full rage of allergies. Of course today I forgot to take it when I woke up. Lol at putting a bell on Fred, love it! Those cookies look amazing.

Michael takes 2 meals when he works nights, and all we had was one thing of leftovers so I whipped up a sausage vegetable saute for him to take as well. The pumpkin pie I made was surprisingly really good! I don't know why I thought it wouldn't be good, but it tasted just like pumpkin pie. The crust could use some help though, it was just kinda blaah.

Aw, Janet, thanks for looking for the recipe. I know in my recipe box, I have Grandma P's handwritten recipe. But I distinctly remember seeing the dough with cream cheese, butter and flour. The poppyseed was in a can, Solo brand. I know the nut filling was our favorite. They can be frozen unbaked, which is perfect in keeping them fresh. I remember the diamond pattern and all the pinching.

Tina, I hope Fred doesn't attempt to fix your door... It can wait until Monday...the cables that are located on each side of the GD are off track, correct? If so, there are numerous reasons that happened, it could be a broken spring or something else. So tell him even if he fixes it, it could very well do it again:) Best of luck with your handyman sweetie..I have one here myself:)

Janet, I love short hair..it's so easy. Your hair is usually cut shorter, isn't it? I like your hair, looks like it has a lot of body...which is key for a short cut:)

Michelle, 13 toppings..that would make for a soggy crust I would think! Less is better when it comes to pizza toppings:)

Karen, how far are you from Greenfield, MO? My BFF lives there..she moved there years ago and I have never forgiven her..LOL. We did fly out to see her & her hubby a few years back...

Marie, I reminded him again not to touch anything, but he is a one track mind set these days. And he is way off the track. Olivia and I had a long talk today. He is steadily declining and it is beyond dementia. I truly believe he is experiencing early Alzheimers. He does not attach meaning to a word anymore. I ask him to show me the wood salt cellar and he handed me a jar of honey. He simply does not comprehend words. I'll have to deal with each day as it comes. It would explain his rage and temper out bursts. I've been home 4 months and his frustration with daily living skills is off the charts. He gets so angry. It is so sad. He just can't cope with life. He wants his football, beer, food and CSI, SVU. And not necessarily in that order. I'll have to get the diagnosis confirmed and work from that stand point, no moving because it would be way too disruptive to life at this point. A huge move would be devastating. Although if all he wants is to sit on a porch and drink beer to the end of his days, why deny him his due?

I think Olivia has given me her malaise. My throat is scratchy. She is still going to help me put together the loveseat. She cancelled her girlfriends binge watch of "Once Upon a Time" and "Revenge". She is kind of punky and still cranky.

Those cabbage rolls smell heavenly. I see that dog commercial with the dog running around
    "I smell bacon" "BACON".

Oh Tina, I am so sorry to hear Fred is going thru all of this..and you and Liv as well..it has to be so very hard. Alzheimers is a horrible & sad disease, I sure hope that is not what it is...good luck with figuring out everything going on..sending a big hug your way dear.xoxox

Tina, So sorry you and Fred are facing possible Alzheimers - it is a terrible disease and seems to be on the increase. I hope it is something else that can be reversed. But if it is Alzheimers, there have been a lot of advances in treatment. Please take him in for an evaluation soonest. Keep us posted.

Marie - I live in central MO - Greenfield is in the SW corner in Dade County - I only know that because I Googled it - LOL. We are several hours away.

Michelle - she can eat WELL cooked tomatoes. Even home canned tomatoes get the cook-forever treatment. Raw carrots and apples also.
Hurray for Zyrtec! I fall asleep or get hyped with it so I sometimes have to go with Claritin. Sudafed works best but in some places it is RX only and in others you have to sign for it because they think it will be used for making meth!

Janet - I concur with the “wild children” problem. I will ask people to take their kids home in a heartbeat if they are running wild, and there are people I do not invite over for that reason. I know of a few restaurants that no longer allow children under 18, allegedly because of the alcohol served there but really due to disgust with their behavior.

It is quiet. Just the two of us and the critters. Homer is back from the kennel. He had problems getting to his feet - we had to each take one end and lift the 73 lb. dog upright. He is sound asleep!

I am tired and ready for bed and it isn’t even 9 o’clock yet. LOL.

OK so I am still awake. We are munching late night snacks of pepperoni-cheese and crackers, dried green bean chips, with a little side dish of "Sconza" brand dark chocolate covered espresso beans which we found at a winery! My ultimate dream snack.

Along with blackberry wine. Three sips and I'm flying high. I have no tolerance for alcohol.

    Yum. See you tomorrow.

Karen, dried green bean chips??? Pray tell, what is that delectable munchie? Yes, it is a steep decline in a very short time for Fred. It used to be funny to get a can of cat food in my lunch instead of tuna. Or get a sandwich of lettuce and mustard minus the ham and cheese, but these days he is unable to determine fresh vs frozen, green vs red, light vs dark. He can fool the doctor but not the wife. I adore your late night nibbles. They sound just perfect for a stressful night.
