Good Friday Fare

  • notyourmomma 14 years ago
We'll be having salmon with orange marmalade/soy glaze, broccoli rabe with garlic (new to me, never made it, is it really bitter?) baked sweet potatoes. Got three big containers of huge strawberries for .99 from Aldi's. They are enormous...just going to dip them in lite sour cream and brown sugar....or douse them with balsalmic vinegar and cracked black pepper!!! My favorite.

    Nice garden, Otter...impressive.
Hello to everyone......nice to see you posting.
Was on shopping duty last night and then mopping the floors and couldn't stop by to visit. Missing our chats. Hope all are well.

    Good Morning, Tina!

    LOVE the yard, Otter!

Bryan was chomping at the bit to try t he strawberry onion yesterday. It was huge. I was expecting it to be small, I guess. lol Cut it in half, and put each half on some foil, Slathered with half metlted butter, used seasoned salt and garlic peppter, a splash of worcestershire and sprinkled with parm. Wrapped tight and grilled for 45 minutes. They were awesome! Sweeter thann a vidalia, but not too sweet.

Taking a partial ME day today! woohoo. Just colored the gray, going to get a new do, shopping with the 78 I still have left on my bday gift card (if I didn't have a gift card I'd have already spent that by now...lol) then helping Hil cut out words and letters frommagazines for her last art project for the college application.

Then gonna grill the slamon steaks I didn't do the other day. I'm thinking a lime/honey/garlic glaze...with that work? Some dressed up french style green beans...onion, grape tomatoes and a splash of italian dresing, and the potatoes I didn't bake last night. Have an absolutely gorgeous day to enjoy!

    Happy Good Friday eveyrone!

Haven't even thought about what we're doing for Easter...The boys can roll out of bed and go next door to their dad's so it's just me and Les.

Good morning all. That salmon sounds terrific Momma. I'd go for the balsamic and pepper on the strawberries too.

Lucky you Sparow to have a primp day. I'm hoping for one of those maybe next week. Today is back to the garden to get some more of the winter out of it. Mom brought home two old fashioned pentas she needs planted and a couple of pretty Nun's orchids. The pentas are terrific butterfly plants and very showy.

I suspect tonight will be a scrounge night with that left over chicken. Although I may make some mashed potatoes and have turkey loaf and gravy to go with. We'll see how long I stay in the yard and how much interest I have in the kitchen when I get back in.

Well off to put my dishes away, get some ice tea brewing, boots on and tools out. Later all.

    Good morning to all!
Welcome back Wynne - hope you had a wonderful vacation!
Tina and Lori the salmon steaks sound delish. We have one lonely salmon fillet left from last fishing season - need to get it out and barbeque it! Maybe tomorrow night.
Otter never heard of those strawberry onions. Will be looking for them out here. For some reason (maybe the weather) we seem to be behind the rest of the country in new and exciting veggies.
Wynne your steak bombs sound great - putting that into our menu soon.
Donna your pictures are great. Love the posts on the deck and nice herbs! Wet and windy here already today. Not looking forward to later.
Have a blessed Good Friday to everyone!

Steve's step-dad is in town and wants to take everyone out to eat. Looks like it will be the ol' Golden Corral for dinner. Could be up to 12 of us maybe. Just so glad I don't have to host on Sunday. We will still be doing a ham, though. Told his mom she was free to come over and get some.

My niece and her hubby came down for the funeral of Kim's M.I.L. Hoping they will get to stop by tonight afterward.

We have one in Marysville which is a ways north of where I live - closer to Donna. We have never been there. They say it is always packed. Must try it sometime.

My kids always loved to go to the Golden Corral in Pigeon Forge...they have excellent food. Usually those "troughs" are not so good, but we like that one!

Well, I can't get the grill lit to start the potatoes. Been 84 today, and it's too stuffy to turn the oven on. Nice breeze blowing with the ceiling fans, but don't need the oven on 450 for an hour! LOL Don't even want to turn the stove on. SOOO, why not get the old foreman grill out and fry up some bacon, and do BLT's? That's what I thought! He can show me what I'm doing wrong when he gets in, and I will grill the salmon tomorrow. (The little starter button isn't working). I can just see me catching my new do on fire...can't have THAT!

LOL Wynne - I can think of a few things that involve a lighter! LOL

Don't ruin the DO, Lori. Wait for Bryan... Hard for me to even imagine 84 at this time of year.

We in having a HUGE wind storm! So far still have power - ours doesn't usually go out, but I'm just waiting for a tree to come down on the power lines below....

Tina, that salmon sounds good. Can't help ya on the kale, never had it before.

Look forward to seeing that asparagus soup recipe, Pat, I'm sure it will be delicious!

Thanks Val on the pics. Yeah, we've been once to the Marysville Corral, but it was at least 12 years ago, I don't remember if we liked it or not - LOL Then again, it IS Marysville.... (you'd have to live here to know that joke - LOL)

On that note, hope you enjoy the Golden Corral, Ang. Glad you got out of hosting Sunday.

Enjoy that garden, Otter, and "scrounge night"

Have no clue what I'm making for dinner - God knows we have enough leftovers in the fridge, but don't even get me started....
