    Good Afternoon All!

Nice on your "free" day Michelle. I hope you savor every minute and enjoy relaxing.

Sounds like a busy day for you Bren. Do you have much to do when you close up the cottage? Is there a reason you don't use it during the winter months?

Nothing special going on here. We ran some errands earlier and may go out for pizza tonight. I'll do a little cleaning but more tomorrow. Ho-Hum kinda day.

I am very pleased you are having a free day, Michelle. Now that you have things done, enjoy the rest of your day.
Good luck closing up the cottage, Bren. Don't overdo it! Happy Belated anniversary.

Most people close up their cottages here, Linda b/c most of them are not insulated and the water pipes will freeze. So pipes have to be drained and many more things have to be attended to. Most people with cottages are in remote areas and the roads aren't good in the winter to get into. Our cottage was on an island and we had to boat back and forth and of course, the water would freeze so we closed it up for the winter and opened it up in the spring. Good luck with your errands and enjoy your pizza.
    Have a great time, Janet.

We went out for dinner last night for our Anniversary. We went to Maximillian's and Den had Wiener Schnitzel and I had their Szekelly Crépe which was very good. http://www.maximiliansrestaurant.ca/menu---offers.html Den finished putting the gravel down yesterday and today he has done all the laundry is now vacuuming the basement/rec-room, laundry room, freezer room etc. He has been really busy! Tonight he is having his normal cheeseburgers and fries and I am getting Chinese Take-Out. Tomorrow is my birthday and we are going out for brunch with the kids to Calamity Jane's http://www.calamityjanes.ca/ I have driven past it many times but never eaten there. I hope it is good!
    Wishing everyone a great day!

    Hi everyone.

Have a wonderful, quiet day Michelle!

Don't overdo the cabin closing, Bren.

    Hi Linda! Hi Janet!

Happy birthday Joce. Let us know how the new restaurant is!

Canned six pints of tomato jelly this morning. Did six loads of laundry and more coming!
Had Wayne try the jelly and his only comment was it tasted like sweet tomatoes. Aargh!

Still had tons of tomatoes in the garden, all green. I foresee green tomato pie, green tomato 🍅 mincemeat, hoping mist will ripe for canning.

Mauser is on the arm of my chair. I have no idea what she is trying to tell me but it must be important for her keeping chatting. Ha ha!

Got to go. Hi to anyone I missed!

Happy Anniversary Joce!!! and Happy Birthday too but I'll catch you tomorrow on that. Both restaurant's menus look fantastic.
Thanks for the explanation on closing up cottages. I guess because I love fall and winter I'd would welcome being at one but if they are not meant for winter visits it makes sense to have them closed :(
Nice your DH is taking care of so many chores!

Wow Karen! you sure did can a lot of stuff. Do you plan on doing more?

    Hi Janet!

    Hello all.
Very nice on the free day Michelle, I hope you have been enjoying it. I remember the few and cherished free Saturdays when all of my children were young. Seemed like someone always had a game or a practice or a birthday party to go to. Funny though, when they all grow up you truly do miss those days. (and wonder how you did it all, lol!) I do however have my grandson's games to enjoy now. He's right now in what we call fall ball down here. It's not like the spring baseball league. More like instructional, especially for children just starting to play. Which is him. But it is a whole league of teams. Went to his game this morning. He hasn't been doing very well with hitting the ball. So he was up to bat and just letting the balls go by him. We started yelling out to him to just swing! Something's gonna hit eventually and a strike is a strike whether you miss or just let it go across the plate. Well lo and behold, the last pitch, would have been last strike....BAM! He hits it straight down center field and got on base! My goodness we were beside ourselves!! Next couple of batters got up, hit the ball and Kaiden scored the only run for the game for both teams!! (course they don't really keep score at this young a level) But ya, he was walking on air. Told my daughter he just needs a bit of confidence and he will do great. But the great part about all of it is today he had his day with baseball and yesterday he was awarded the principal's reading award for excellence. Which he has been struggling with reading as well. So he is having a GREAT end to his week!

When I was growing up my grandfather and grandmother had a cottage on a river in Illinois. Have many, many found memories of the times spent there but can't for the life of me remember the name of the place! Anyway, even though the winters were not even close to Canada, they would still close it up for the winter.

Happy belated anniversary and have a happy birthday tomorrow Joce!

    Hello to everyone else!

Having steak topped with gorgonzola butter, potatoes o'brien and a salad of greens that are really asking to be used up! Bought 2 nice t bones today that will feed the four of us just fine. Not a bad price either.

Enjoy the rest of the day and will say a very earlier...........sleep sweet all............as always....

Linda, I still have more canning to use up tomatoes, probably another batch of an Italian stewed tomatoes or sauce. Jelly will wait....no special season needed for wine jelly...ha ha.

Friends of ours had free rein at their parents's cottage, Kilmer, and we did go there with them. Lots of fun. Their two year old fell into the lake and her dad dove straight down and brought her up. She was not bothered at al, but they saw to it that she took swimming lessons ASAP!

GS still sidelined with a twisted knee. He is miffed that he can't go to this weekend's swim meet. He has another one next weekend. Hopefully he will heal. Daughter is thinking of letting him swim Monday if his knee is better since the pool is closed for two days next week, and he needs the practice.

We "won" a stay at an RV resort after taking his sister back. You know, where they try to sell time shares! Will try it to see how we like it. I hate time shares but the experience will be good! Allegedly no high pressure selling. We shall see. Fritz will come LATER when we have become more accustomed to the routine.

Have decided to get a food mill.....it removes seeds from stewed tomatoes etc. and the jelly would look prettier without them. I usually just leave them in stewed tomatoes, since I am not cooking for the French ambassador......LOL! But it would be nice to have a seedless version of jams and jellies.

    Have a nice day!.

Good evening everyone. It took far longer than I thought it would. Joce is right, the pipes have to be well drained or they freeze. Most cottages don't have a basement and the pipes are exposed to the elements. Ours is considered a three season because it is insulated. The down side is that the heat is baseboards which are very expensive to run in the winter. All food items have to be removed and the fridge is left open so mould doesn't grow. All outdoor furniture is brought in and the canoes get stored under the cottage. The wooden garbage bin has to be moved or the plow will push it along in a heavy storm.

Happy Birthday, Joce. My Anniversary and Birthday are also in October. You've had a very busy day. It's so nice that Den helps with the house work.

It was beautiful at the lake, Janet and an amazing 17 degrees. Eggs benny sound so very good.

I have to tackle the laundry tomorrow, Karen. It's piling up. I think that you will love a food mill. If yours is like the one that I have it removes the seeds and the skins. I pass the skins/seeds through several times and get a lot of tomato paste that thickens the sauce. So sorry about your GS, hopefully it will heal quickly. My mom always made relish with green tomatoes, not sure why as I don't remember eating a whole lot of relish.

Hello Kimmer!!! What a wonderful, uplifting story about Kaiden. I'm sure that he was riding on cloud 9. Great sounding dinner.

That's it for me....I hope that I didn't miss anyone. Have a great evening everyone.

Belated Happy Anniversary to you and Den Joce! Nice @ Maximillian's for dinner! That's great Den got all the gravel done. And a birthday for you tomorrow! Loads of celebrations! "Happy Birthday" if I don't get on tomorrow!

Sounds like you were productive Karen! Sorry to hear your Grandson's knee is still ailing him. :( Fun @ the RV resort win! I bought myself a food mill a few years ago but think I've maybe only used it once. :) If you do something cool with it let me know and maybe I'll put it into action again.

Congrats to Kaiden, Kimmer on both his hit and his award. How very fun! :) Your dinner sounds phenomenal!

Glad you got the cottage all closed up Bren and that you did get good weather for it.

We had a lovely time at Jim's brother's birthday party. They had a good turn out. 32 people. They had all of Jim's family there which is the first time in 5 years. We went to a restaurant called the Lazy Lizard. Jim and I had pizza and wings. Olives, bacon, mushrooms and onions on our pizza and buffalo medium wings.

It's my son's birthday tomorrow so while we had the whole gang together for pictures we shot a video of all of us singing "Happy Birthday" to him and put it on his FB page for when he woke up. He was really touched and admitted to Jim and I that he even teared up a little. :) We're hoping to get to Skype with him tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow we are going to the girl's hockey game. Then I want to go to that "Pepper Palace" store for some Jalopeno relish and I'd like to visit a winery or two as well. Then we're invited to another of Jim's brother's for dinner tomorrow night. We'll leave to head to Jim's Dad's cottage Monday morning. Going to go visit with his sister who is down from Alaska along with a friend of hers and also our niece and great nephew. The leaves should be gorgeous there.

May, or may not get to touch base tomorrow so if not, wishing everyone a lovely Sunday and Joce, a super awesome birthday celebration!

    Night all!
