Luck 'O the Irish Friday!

  • chuckieb 7 years ago
Good Morning everyone and Happy St. Patrick's Day! Anyone doing any Irish food tonight?
    I'm serving up
    Beef Dip
for dinner this evening with a veggie tray on the side and Heinz '57 dip. If I have time I'll arrange the veggies into the shape of an owl like I did not long ago. In fact, the girls would probably enjoy doing that. We'll see how it all works out.

Right now everyone is still sleeping and they want to go see "Beauty and the Beast" which starts at 11:15 at the theatre. Somehow after that we're hoping to fit in baking cupcakes and making Pot of Gold Chocolates, lunch, dinner and then their Mom is participating in a Hockey Tournament in Arnprior this evening at 7 p.m. Jim and I haven't decided at this point yet if we're going to go to that or not.

Oh! Just heard a door open. Must head off. Wishing everyone a wonderful day full of leprechauns and lucky charms! :)

Morning Janet!! I think the girls will love the owl, and it will get them to eat their veggies too :P I had a friend that went and saw the "Beauty and the Beast" yesterday and they LOVED it! Sounds like you are squeezing in a lot of things in today, but I know you can do it :) Have fun!

It's just me and Caiden awake right now, cuddling up on the couch :) I need to get a grocery list made and get to the store! Sam's is definitely one stop I'll make and maybe we will also head to the FM to pick strawberries? Idk yet, haven't decided, will see if everyone feels up to it, it may wait until Sunday. Haven't even thought about dinner yet!! I'll let y'all know! Have a great day :)

    Happy St. Patrick's Day Everyone!
Sounds like you are going to be very busy today, Janet! A beef dip is perfect for a chilly March day. I hope you get a chance to make things with the girls today. It would be such a fun thing to do.

I am very envious of you being able to pick strawberries as well, Michelle. Have fun doing your errands. I hope you do get to pick strawberries.

I am not up to too much today. I was able to get everything I wanted to get done yesterday so I won't need to go out today. Den will have his normal rib eye steak and oven fries and I am not sure what I am having yet.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

Well the verdict is in, no strawberry picking today. We may go Sunday, but the crowds will be insane. I miss the Farmer's Market back when I first started going to it 7 years ago, it wasn't as widely known about and so easy to go and not have to worry about huge crowds or where to park so you don't have to walk a mile. Now it's expanded into this stereotype of a place, with a snack bar and booths to sit at and eat and a snow cone parlor, etc. Which isn't a bad thing I guess, but not what I'd like, I miss the hole in the wall building just selling fruits and veggies and some local honey :(

Anyway, enough of my rant lol. So while I'm at the grocery store Michael and the kids are going to do yard work, gotta put them to work if they want to stay home :P :P I know I'm mean. Pulled out some ground beef, so I'm guessing tacos or something. Still undecided!

Strawberries sound good, Michelle. Have fun cuddling Caiden.

I think my childhood memories of St. Patrick's Day were mainly threatening to clobber some kids who would pinch anyone not wearing green. It soured me on the holiday. Ha ha. But I did NOT get pinched. And I never think about wearing green. Hope the kids have a good time at the movie....it should be fun.

OK, best get moving. Busy day ahead.

It sure is quiet today. I took a break after cleaning refrigerator and sweeping kitchen floor. Not to mention typing notes from one meeting and emailing them off.

Oops Phone rang. Got to go. Bye. Back later.

    Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone.
You are a ball of energy, Janet. I know that I couldn't keep up with you. Enjoy the movie, I will wait a bit before I see it. Your beef dip recipe is on my long list of dishes that I want to make.
It's important to have one on one time with the children, Michelle, enjoy. I so envious of your strawberries as well. It will be several months before I can get them. I know exactly what you mean about the farmers market, too commercialized.
I may start following your lead, Joce, and have something else when Joe has his steak on Sat. night. Good for you getting everything done yesterday, I wish that I could say the same.
I'm with you on not celebrating, Karen. Unless your actually Irish it's just an excuse to party hardy.
I have to make a grocery run this aft, out of veggies and I bought a ton last week. Not much new here. We still haven't decided what to do with Annie. If it were just the one leg I would probably go for it but the vet said that she will probably need to have both repaired, sigh.

It is hard to know what to do for a pet, for sure, Bren. Fritz is pretty healthy so we probably won't have to face that for a while. He is only a year and a half. The oldest cat must be about 14-16, the vet couldn't determine his age except "middle aged" and we have had him a long time. He is the one that I doctored inside for months, so he trusts me. But no one else. He is a good sized, long haired cat.

SP Joce - I think GR is being wonky today.

    Good Afternoon Everyone!!

I love Beef Dip but never make it. I'll get it out sometimes if I trust the place to make it right but since moving here only found one place that does make it right. Enjoy baking with the girls if you get to squeeze that in Janet.

Nice on the strawberries Michelle, especially "pick-your-own". Strawberries are in here but when I went to the store and smelled a package they didn't have that sweet strawberry aroma so I passed. I hate the farmers markets here too for the same reason ... too much "hoopla" and not enough market.

Happy to hear you got all your running around done yesterday Joce and you can relax today.

I remember the pinching thing too Karen. I never wore green on St. Pats day because I wasn't Irish. I do love corned beef though when it's made right but because DH doesn't eat it I very seldom make it :(

Tough decision to make Bren about Annie. I hope you conclude something soon. Would going for a second opinion be worth the trouble?

It's been a very busy 2 days here. Yesterday I spent a great amount of time dealing with DH's in home medical care and finally got that straightened out but still haven't heard back from the therapist who stopped and who will be starting again when she is coming. I put a call in to her today to ask because I have stuff scheduled on both days next week that she is due to come if she is staying with the same days/times. Then the older woman who we are guardians for, we had to run over and get her tax stuff to take to her CPA, of course she didn't have 2 needed items and I questioned her about them and it's like talking to my foot. I told her what she needed and she didn't have any proof of her donations to her church and the other document was from the nursing home itself which I told her to ask them for. Today I called and got the document from the nursing home and we ran her stuff over to her CPA. And because my DH is in no frame of mind to help her manage her finances I had to have a long talk with him about letting someone else do it which he finally agreed so am now setting all that up. Between taking care of the two of them I'm ready for the Funny Farm!!
In that we were out we ate a late lunch out. He had broiled sole with mashed potatoes and asparagus and a shrimp cocktail to start and I had a California roll and a kale and quinoa salad with all kinds of nummy stuff in it. Too full for dinner but I'll see if he wants something.
Then on the way home stopped at the grocery store and did some shopping. And that's enough.

I should add that it's difficult for me dealing with the older woman because she does not listen to me and instead challenges everything I say. She listens to my DH but since he can't talk ... I got to the point today where I had to yell at her and ask her to start cooperating with me instead of dismissing what I tell her that's for her best interest.

Yum on rib eye steak Joce! Good choice Den! :)

We enjoyed the Beauty and the Beast movie and the cupcakes have just come out of the oven and are cooling. We did the Pots of gold chocolates. Pretty cute.

I'm going to have to do this in chunks as I'm running back and forth from the kitchen. :)

Since we had a big lunch out I decided to make a pot of soup as it's easy and too I want the leftovers for lunches. Tomorrow I want to make a Bean and bacon soup for me.

Go you on cleaning out the fridge Karen!! Something I need to do eventually.

I'm sorry about your tough decision with Annie Bren :(

Yes, I agree about the FM Linda, it seems like it's now more about how to squeeze more money out of people other than just bringing fresh produce local. Wow, that woman is being very difficult, I really hope for yours and your husbands sake that she starts cooperating with you a little better.

Sounds like you got most of what you wanted to get done, done Janet!

Scratched the ground beef, got it back into the freezer before it was thawed, and pulled out some beef stew meat to make Irish Beef And Stout Stew along with Irish Soda Bread, it is St. Patrick's Day after all! Lol :) Have both cooking right now and my house is smelling VERY good!

I love stew with stout, Michelle. I usually make Jamie Oliver's with Guinness but I'll have a look at the one that you used. I like Jamie's as it has no potatoes.
I'm sorry that you've had a rough couple of days, Linda. I hate to say this but some older women don't listen to women, apparently we don't know anything about finances. That soup looks good, I wish that Joe would eat soup for dinner. Oh, I left a recipe on your post in GR.
Janet and Joce, not sure if your interested but Food Basic's has 1/2 pork loin roasts on sale for 1.49. Super Store had whole chicken's for 1.99 but it wasn't advertised in the flyer so it may only be the store where I shop.

Michelle, would there be any smaller Farmer's Markets around that would be less busy? Google and see. You never know.

Oh dear @ your St. Patrick's Day memories Karen. I love to celebrate every holiday, no matter. It wouldn't be right if I didn't wear something green (today a big green necklace with a giant four leaf clover on it) and a green shirt and I also always play my "Irish Rover" CD. :)

LOL. I am not a ball of energy Bren. I used to be able to do all this without batting an eye but here it is 8:30 p.m. and all my get up and go has got up and left. The movie was good and I'm glad I went. A Disney movie every once in a while is good for the soul. I feel so sorry for you and Annie. It is a terribly hard decision. I have a girlfriend that has a ton of pets. I may have mentioned her before. She used to have horses but they passed away from old age and now she has three donkeys, a bunch of ducks, two dogs, and numerous cats. She is always at the Vet and I swear the majority of money she earns goes to pay Vet bills. And it kills her when one of them is sick. But she tells me that the joy that she gets from them all every single day makes up for the pain when it's time to say good-bye.

Very wise to get the lady who you care for someone different to manage her finances Linda. You do have your hands full indeed. Your lunch sounded lovely.

Nice that you got soup made and making another tomorrow! Soup is also good for the soul.

Michelle I LOVE what you ended up making for dinner. Very fun! :)

Thanks for the heads up Bren on the Pork Loin Roast price at Food Basic's. I still have a fair amount from one I bought from Costco a while ago but I do appreciate hearing about deals any time. :) If I pass by the Super Store in the next couple of days I will check if they too have the chickens on. We go through a lot of chicken.

Dinner went over well. The 'Mom' headed off at 6 to her Hockey tournament and ate just beforehand and the rest of us went out for a Hot Tub and then ate around 7:30. Cuddled up in front of the fire now and I shall sleep like a log.

They turned out great Linda. :) All I did was read out the quantities and the girls measured and mixed and stirred and poured, iced and decorated. All from scratch. They tried them this evening for dessert and pronounced them delicious. Their Mom had two! :)
