Back to the office today. Let the grazing begin, oops started yesterday so I must amend: Let the grazing continue.

Marcy brought in pans of her chocolate and peanut butter fudge along with lots of home made cookies. I couldn't resist had to snick a snack but I made it small and I'm avoiding that area for the rest of the day.

Feeling pretty good about my Christmas readiness and so far have kept the blues away. Got the out of town gifts wrapped and out of town this morning. That's always the biggest worry and in fact woke me up early with a bad dream about it. Which is why it is now done.

How are you all doing with your Christmas prepareness? Have you pre-planned that menu yet?

Mr. SuchAFuss is in charge of steak dinner tonight.

Hubbs is heading out to his buddy's house tonight---while my good pal MRS. VILA (a female version of Bob Vila) comes to fix my kitchen sink leak tonight. I'm not sure where TBO will be during all the fixer-upping, but I have a feeling it will be out with his dad, LOL.

Looks like it's a batch it night around here. No clue yet. Lots to do this week and not enough time to do it,

Hey Laurie, Pat, Otter, and Judy. Guess everyone is really busy this time of year. Speaking of broccoli - I have a whole bunch of fresh florets to use up. Bought the big bag at Costco for my dinner (cuz it was so cheap) and I only used about half if that on Saturday. Maybe I'll look into a dish like that, Laurie. I do need to get my turkey carcass in the stock pot, just being lazy. Don't have any leftover turkey meat, just what's on the carcass.... Dreary cloudy day around here.....

I can't eat THAT much broccoli P7O! That would work for a portion of it!
Well I managed to get my turkey stock going.... and actually enjoyed two little sandwiches with some of the meat that was left on the carcass on my mom's leftover yeast rolls. Nothing left now but a cup of whole berry cranberry sauce. And all that DAMN broccoli. LOL I'm sure I'll use it......eventually.

Not even ready for Christmas, no tree up yet, a very little decorating done - just have the funky holiday blues. Couldn't leave for work until 10:00 today - my driveway which is a 40 percent grade downhille was frozen over. Thought I was going to have an accident in my underwear going down it this morning in 4 wheel drive. Forgot to call husband when I got to work and there was a scathing voicemail waiting for me - oh well... I'll hear about it when I get home!
Donna, make cream of broccoli/cheese soup - yum! or blanch it and freeze it for another day!
We're having baby limas and cornbread tonight. Can't wait - one of my lifetime favorites.
Have a Christmas party to go to Saturday nite. It is appetizers only! I found one that sounds pretty good - Tostito Scoops filled with barbequed pulled pork with an orange marmalade-fennel topping. So far - that one sounds different. I'm sure there will be lots of meatballs and chicken wings!
Hope everyone is have a good day!

That's funny Val and Wynne, I was just searching for a good broccoli cheddar soup 5 minutes ago! One without VELVEETA! God, I hate the stuff! I know there are lovers of it, but I'm not one!
Val, you can tell you're a southern girl, Brad and I were just talking last night about baby limas and cornbread - well I was anyway - he's only had the white ones. I told him that was navy beans, not limas LOL Have a good time Saturday night!
Wynne, that soup sounds good. I'm not sure if I'm gonna go ahead and have turkey soup tonight or do something with the broccoli.......?

I went with this heart attack on a plate: http://www.grouprecipes.com/34167/laurenzos-ziti-broccoli-bake.html It is in the oven now, I will review it in IMI tonight but based on the sample I hade before the bake it is gonna be good,
Finished the wrapping today. house is decorated but it needs to be cleaned. took a cheat and bought a huge roll of pillsbury sugar cookie dough. at $2.99 for the huge roll it is way cheaper than making the cookies from scratch and easier too!

LOL - I saw that Pillsbury sugar cookie dough on Friday and almost bought it too! Brad loves sugar cookies, but me being the meanie that I am haven't made any. Maybe I'll cheat too. I'm gonna go check out that broccoli bake.....

I checked out that broccoli bake...heart attack on a plate is right! But what a way to go.......... Added it to group since Laurie's making it tonight. It does sound good.
I just had a brain snap: Why couldn't I use my turkey stock I'm making in a broccoli cheddar soup thingy tonight? Anyone see why not? They use chicken stock, don't they?

14 dozen and counting....just had one of Sparow's Butter Balls. It's a keeper!
I'm starting to get into this baking groove. Good thing. When I told FM I was in the mood to bake some cookies he came home from the grocery store with 24 pounds of ingredients! Yeah, you heard me....

Probably leftovers for everyone but me. I've got a chicken carcass boiled up on the stove...in the mood for some kind of stew I guess. We'll see what I end up with.

That's what I'm doing Ang, gonna come up with something with my turkey carcass stock - might be a combo turkey, broccoli thingy or just a cheesy broccoli thingy. Cept we're meat eaters here so..... would it be gross to add some canned turkey breast meat or chicken to a cheesy broccoli soup? Who knows what I'll end up with! I think I better play it safe and go with turkey soup tonight and Lord knows I'll have enough stock to save to make broccoli cheese soup tomorrow or next night. Or that broccoli bake... Brad's not too keen on soup every night of the week. MEN!

Les is the same way about soup.....Thinks he's getting cheated or something....I put meat, veggies and starch in most soups so what's he missing?....LOL

I gotta get into the cookie thing....Cheesecakes are not cheap to make....I was thinking about that as I used a whole pound of butter yesterday for 4 crusts....And 8 pounds of cream cheese....Oh, and did I say they were Nutella cheesecakes?...LOL A small fortune!!!

I think chicken added to the broccoli cheese soup would be great. And when Brad asks where the meat is, tell him it's in the soup! I know that's what David would ask!!
He called to tell me at lunchtime that the limas were still hard as rocks. He soaked them overnight and put them in the slow cooker. I told him to turn them on High and watch them. Response - What does that mean, watch them??? Do I pull up a chair......... Men are sometimes impossible!

Okay I will admit it, I bought the peanut butter blossom roll too LOL. I just picked up extra hours at Macy's and since this job is only until Christmas I gotta take the money when I can get it!
I have never tried the peanut butter roll though so I might have to make a test batch. they are having a cookie party for the teachers at the middle school on Friday so somewhere I am gonna try to make some.
The broccoli cheese bake was AWESOME!!! highly reccomend it if you have to do a make ahead meal. I put the whole thing together and into the buttered pan & put it in the fridge then cooked when I came home from my appt. Had to adjust the cooking time but still really good.
I did not use 4 cups of heavy cream though I only had half and half and I only had 2 cups but it totally worked. added chicken to it.
Soup is my husbands favorite believe it or not! he would eat it every night but usually my soups do have some meat in them.
I made a cheesy brocolli soup once and he said he wasn't going to eat it because it would bother his stomach. ya right once he saw it he was scarfing it down. I said what about your stomach. he said it was too good he would suffer the consiquences. LOL

  • justjakesmom 14 years ago said:
LOL - they usually do suffer the consequences when it's something they like! So do we... .LOL
You can send me a cheesecake Wynne! That is expensive stuff to make!
Val, he'll know there's meat in it, he just, like Wynne said, thinks he's being punished or something. LOL He always raves about the soups, but then if I say, two nights later, 'you want leftover soup for dinner?' He'll come back with something like "what are you trying to do to me?" "come on, can't we have a real meal?" WTH!? Mind warp...

Leftover potato soup....power went out just as I heated it and we ate in the dark. Power just came on and I have to clean up the kitchen.

Very good friend.hmmmm, Pat...if you can swing the funds...go for both, if you have time. What about the baked brie in crescents? And a shrimp dip with veggies?

Nice thing about no money, you can't buy presents, so you don't have to wrap. There are no presents so who needs a tree? Going to sisters for brunch, no need to decorate, kid is visiting her friends in Orlando, so she doesn't need to be "entertained" by her old parents. We can decompose by ourselves at home in absolute utter silence. I might break out a cookie or two for the old man but have to watch his cholesterol and sugar levels. Do they make premade cookies with Splenda these days? I'll chill the Welsh's sparkling grape juice ahead of time and maybe I'll spin a yarn or two for Fred about Christmas' past and it will ring a bell in that heart of his.

A cup of cranberry sauce makes a great glaze when mixed with a bit of mustard and horseradish over a meatloaf. It is surprisingly good with sweet-heat.

Broccoli flowerettes....hmmmm, I think you guys covered the best ones with the cheddar cheese soup, and the primavera pasta. My mom used to make a layered broccoli, chicken chunks, slivers of chipped beef with a sourcream mushroom sauce...I can't remember how she did it. But it was yummy.

Olivia would kill for a Nutella cheesecake...really. Look out!
