Manic Monday!

Good Morning everyone! I have a busy day ahead of me today! Will clean the house this morning and then decorate and then run into town to grab groceries for my HIgh Tea tomorrow afternoon and then back home again to decorate the tree.

We got snow overnight so my Christmas decorations out there look like they're now in their natural setting. :)

Haven't decided what's for breakfast yet. JIm's still snoozing. Have to go hit the coffee button.

    Wishing everyone a lovely day.

Morning! Good luck with your busy day Janet, I'm not sure if you've mentioned this yet, but what are your plans for the High Tea? Little appy's and sandwiches? Can't wait to hear about it, and hopefully see pictures too :)

Yesterday at the farm went well. There was a bunch of us and we mainly visited and took pictures. We did go around and tell our favorite memory that we remember from being there, lot's of good times, we had some good laughs and good cries. It was pretty emotional. The pictures we took I can't post yet, we have some family members that are pretty sour about certain things and we don't want them to know we were there yesterday quite yet. Went out to eat Mexican food after, it was different from the usual spots we are used to, I very nice change!

It's still raining here, now after all this begging for rain, I want it to stop! I need to get to the gym to work off all the food I ate yesterday, I think I'm still full lol. Also going to go on Snapfish and get my Christmas cards ready. I would LOVE to send everyone here one, anyone who is ok with it, please PM me your address and I'll you one :) :)

I got some homemade chorizo from the FM last time I went, so I pulled that out of the freezer for tonight, not sure what I'm going to do with it yet though. After school/evening stuff going on, so I'll have to work dinner in around that. Wishing everyone a great Monday!!

Good Morning Michelle! I'm getting a little worried that Afternoon tea is going to be snowed out. :( Both friends live an hour away. One is a seasoned confident driver and the other not so much. :) But....if it goes ahead, I am in charge of the tea sandwiches. So I'm planning on making Coronation chicken finger sandwiches (like a chicken salad with some curry and chutney in it), some cucumber and herbed cream cheese sandwiches cut in circles, and some smoked salmon and cream cheese pinwheels. One friend is bringing scones and devonshire cream from a local Scone shop in Ottawa and the other is bringing a home made Victoria Sponge cake with jam. It should be a lot of fun.

Awww on your day at the Farm yesterday. It would have been an emotional one for sure. Sorry to hear about the sour family members. Nice on the Mexican food. Oh I'd LOVE a Christmas card for sure. I'll PM you my address. Yum on chorizo. It's an ingredient I very much like but haven't had a lot of exposure to. Have a great day!

    Good Morning!
It's currently -17C, feels like -29C with the wind chill! Brrrrrrr...The sliding glass door froze shut and all our windows have ice between the panes even though the storms are on!
Pete's home and took the kids to school just now, so I can stay cozy in a housecoat and slippers and sip my coffee. Dinner will be a repeat of yesterday, with leftover mashed potatoes, roast beef and gravy. I'll make a salad to go with, and possibly more Yorkshire puddings.
Pete fixed his truck, he was out there until 9pm last night and finally got it started. So I hope that means the kitchen will get worked on today! ;)

Hi Janet, those sandwiches sound perfect for afternoon tea! I hope it doesn't get snowed in tomorrow. Enjoy your tree decorating :)

Hi Michelle, it sounds like your family had an emotional reunion yesterday! A good send off for the homestead :) Too bad there are sour family members, that sounds very familiar to my family--so I understand! I hope the rain let's up for you. I've never heard of snapfish, that sounds neat! I'll PM you :)

    Happy Monday to all! :)

Brrr Shona. We're sitting at -4C so I'll consider ourselves lucky. :) Eesh on your windows having ice between the panes! I'm still very much wanting your dinner and your leftovers. :) Nice that Pete's off today and drove the kids to school for you. Good luck with progress in the kitchen.I think every family has it's fair share of sour members I'm afraid.

    Jim's requested
    Chalet Style Chicken
for dinner this evening. I'll do a baked potato on the side and I think I have some asparagus that needs to be used.

Very cool on the High Tea tomorrow, Janet. Is it going to be at your house? I remember you saying you had one of those three-tiered tray things. I am sure it will be perfect for that. Are you getting that special tea bread for it? I know I have seen it, at Independent and it is all sliced up thinly to make tea sandwiches. I have always wanted to buy it for something like that. We have a place here that Serves High Tea and it is very expensive! It is over $100.00 just for two people! I was talking to Den earlier this morning and it took him way over an hour more than usual to get to work this morning and we have WAY MORE snow here than you do! We got about 6 inches overnight and it is still snowing!

Sorry to hear there are some sour feeling in your family about the farm, Michelle:( I am sure you have many good memories of that beautiful farm. I would love to get a Christmas card from you and will PM my address to you. Good luck with all the things you have to do today.

BURR! That is cold, Shona! I read somewhere about them calling for a very cold winter for you people out west! I would love your dinner tonight! YUMMY! I hope all still goes well with Pete's truck and he is able to work in the kitchen today.

I have some house cleaning to do today and we will probably have chicken something for dinner tonight.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

Yes Joce, if High Tea forges ahead despite the weather it will be at my house. I'll take picture of the table and food to show you guys. I didn't even know there was special tea bread. That's funny. I'll have to watch for it sometime but don't think I'll go looking for it this time. One of the girlfriends who is coming tomorrow is from Perth and she told me about that Tea place. They just recently had a Downton Abbey Themed dinner or tea or something. :) So fun but yes, sounds expensive. Good luck with your house cleaning.

The weather sounds like it should be a go for the High Tea Party, Janet. They say it is going to be cloudy and overcast with a chance of a bit of sun and possibly snow in the evening and overnight tomorrow. The Tea Sandwich bread is vacuum packed and it sliced thin horizontally with no crusts and it comes in white and whole wheat bread. You can make spiral sandwiches with it as well. I am sure a Bakery could slice the bread horizontally for you. I know my Mom used to get it cut that way for my BD parties when I was young. Lol like those one's with peanut butter and the banana was in the center. Brings back good memories:) Speaking of which please send a Very Happy Belated Wish to your Mom for me.

That tea sandwich bread is so cool Joce. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I've never seen it before. Next time I go to Loblaw's I'll look for it as I could always throw it in the freezer.

I hand washed my china that I'm using tomorrow and did a big house clean. Had a bit of a melt down around 2:30 as I didn't have any ideas for lunch and I still had to run into town and do a bunch of things. Jim talked me down off the ledge. LOL. He ate up the leftover hot turkey and I just grabbed some three layer mexican dip and nacho chips in town. Picked up the groceries I need for tomorrow's sandwiches and a few other things and now I'm back. Don't know if we'll get to decorating the tree again today or not. Jim's replacing some lattice work and wood at the back walk out that was rotting.

I did google High Tea, Afternoon tea and tea sandwiches on Pinterest Linda but I'll do a search for tea sandwiches using cookie cutters as well. At this point I am going to make the smoked salmon and dill cream cheese into pinwheels, the cucumber herb butter ones in circles and the Coronation chicken in fingers.

    Good afternoon everyone.
Good luck with your high tea tomorrow Janet, your sandwiches sound perfect!! I can't wait to see the photos. Enjoy your chicken.
I woke up to about 6 inches of snow, yuck.
I can understand the emotional roller coaster that you must have been on Michelle. It's unfortunate but there always seem to be family members that are sour when things like this happen. I'd love to see the photos when your ready. I've never had chorizo so I googled it. LOL, LOL.....I saw this posted: Jamie Oliver sent death threats after adding chorizo to paella. I know that it really isn't funny but REALLY!!
Good gracious Shona on the windows and door, that's cold. I've made your roast and really enjoyed it!! I hope that Pete gets to the kitchen today. I bet that you would like it done before Christmas.
I've never heard of that bread either Joce and I do the majority of my shopping there. My mom used to make the banana and peanut butter sandwiches for BD parties too, I haven't thought of that in years. The roads were treacherous here in town too.
MIL's house is finally done. The last box has been donated and the garbage went out today. The house will close on Wednesday and I am relieved and a little sad. I've spend every Christmas Eve there for the past 32 years. None of the other family members seems interested in getting together so it looks like we will have a quiet evening.
Dinner will be leftover roast beef in gravy with rice, salad and roasted cauliflower.
    Have a great evening everyone.

That is hilarious that that article came up when you googled chorizo Bren plus pour Jamie Oliver! LOLOL. That's excellent your MIL's house is all done. That was a lot of work. It is sad to see a happy place leave the family. Exactly what Michelle went through this weekend. I love that Dr. Suess quote "Don't cry because it ended, smile because it happened". That's unfortunate that the other family members aren't interested in getting together. But again, you can now discover new ways to celebrate. Your leftovers sound yummy.

Jim and I did manage to get the tree decorated and as is our tradition I had my first Rum and Eggnog of the season. Deelish! :) Have the chicken and potato in the oven and the aspargaus and carrots prepped. We have a Sens Hockey game on in half an hour and Jim has the fire lit in the fireplace. It's been a busy day.

Hi everyone! We got some snow here too but not a lot. Just enough to be a pain first thing Monday morning. I had to go to the post office after work and ship Rachel her winter coat, hat and gloves because for some reason she didn't think to take them to school with her.
Have fun with your High Tea Janet!

Dinner was steak fajitas and rice.

LOL @ Rachel not packing her winter coat, hat and gloves. It is hard to think of absolutely everything you're going to need. Plus, it is always fun to get parcels from home. :) Yum on fajitas.

I checked out Pinterest for cookie cutter ideas for tea sandwiches Linda. It was a lot of fun. Thanks. If it goes well tomorrow I plan on using the High Tea idea for fun lunches for company. There were some especially good ideas that young ones would like, eg. Butterfly cookie cutters, cut outs in bread with sprinkles in the cutout, etc. That'd be so fun. It also reminded me that I have this cool cutter that I got from some Gadget party. Forget the name of those now. It'll make a little circular sandwich pocket all enclosed. Quite fun and it'd be neat with like egg salad or something tucked inside. :)
