Maple Glazed Monday

  • chuckieb 9 years ago
Good Monday Morning everyone! Was reading our local paper this morning and there was an article featuring a local catering company called "Thyme & Again" They are selling a Maple Glazed Shortbread cookie in the shape of oak leaves this fall. 12 small cookies for $12. A buttery shortbread with the sweet crunch of a maple glaze, made with Garland Sugar Shack Maple sugar from Vars, (40 km/24 miles from downtown Ottawa). WANT! Three cheers for Maple Glaze! :)
Well....it's supposed to rain again alllllll week. Not overly happy about that. :(
Going to make Pork Wellington for dinner this evening and a nice tossed salad on the side with the fresh lettuce I harvested from the garden last night. (I was out there with a flashlight!)
So cool on your different kinds of owls Karen. I'll put a picture of a Barred Owl in my Avatar. They are a medium sized owl and live in our neighbourhood. I get thrilled in the summer nights hearing them call. "Whoo Whoo Whooooo Who cooks for you" is what it sounds like. That'd be quite a sight to see, a Great Horned Owl taking off with someone's dog in its talons. (Bet it couldn't lift Homer!) :) I've never seen a Screech owl or a barn owl for that matter. Barn owls are gorgeous. Once upon a time I used to watch a live feed online of a nest of Barn owls. Super cool. "Alaska - The last Frontier". I actually bought a DVD set (9 shows?) a couple of years ago of that actual program and set it in my closet to pull out one winter's night and watch but I've never even unwrapped it yet. Should go try locate it again today and remember to do that this year. Sounds like you had a most lovely evening snuggled in with all your animals. :)
I'm actually going to take some inspiration from Michelle this morning and go make a date with the treadmill in the basement as soon as I get Jim off to work. I've got plenty of time to incorporate good routines into my days. No excuse.
    Wishing everyone a fabulous day.

Good morning , Janet. I did sweep the kitchen floor, start the dishwasher, clean the counters, and clean the stool and sink in the bathroom. Wayne's buddy is supposed to be here but haven't seen him yet. ??? - He just strolled in and headed for the coffee. Ha ha.

I have my cup of hot coffee beside me. A load of t-shirts is in the washer. Mel is asleep on the couch. Homer is asleep on the floor. A.C. is around somewhere. It is a quiet morning for a while, then I have to run some errands. Plus we have the fire dept. meeting tonight and I am so unprepared.

I have to go track down some info for tonight - grr! See you all later. Have a good day.

    Good Monday morning:)

Janet, yum on the maple glazed shortbread cookies..they sound delicious:) Wonder if maybe we could locate a recipe so we could make them at home?!

Karen, I can't believe an owl could or would take off with a dog...that's sad. I love your avatar of Homer, what a beautiful dog..
I'm on my second load of laundry..never ending laundry! Good luck getting all prepared for the fire dept meeting!

Tina, I hope you had a wonderful BD yesterday..how are you feeling today? Sure hope you didn't catch a cold!!!
BTW, I'm loving the ODD avatar:)

Dinner will be Pat's Slow Cooker Tamale Pie & salad:)

It's supposed to rain this afternoon..I can hardly wait!

Enjoy your cup of coffee and quiet for a bit before tackling those errands Karen!
Hi Marie! I did take a quick peek at some maple glazed cookies. Of course now I want some. :) And that would just contradict my stint on the treadmill right there wouldn't it? :)

I'm glad you're happy about the rain and I am most willing to share ours. When I was out bringing back the recycling bins from the top of the laneway I honestly saw a couple of flakes....as in snow. Didn't stay on the ground though. But it won't be long.

Morning! Good thread title Janet. Maple glazed anything is delicious :) Those maple glazed cookies sound good. I vote you splurge and get some! Lol, no inspiration from me lately. I haven/t worked out in a good 4 days, but I am tomorrow for sure, look at that, now your MY inspiration! What's for dinner?

Hi Karen, good luck with the Fire Dept. meeting tonight! Hope you get what you need done for it :) Btw love Homer in your avatar, he looks like a great dog to cuddle up with.

Yay on the rain Marie! Yum on tamale pie, sounds good!

It is a BEAUTIFUL sunny day in the 70's all day! Took Caiden outside to play and YES I remembered to take my Allegra this morning, so I was good to go :) We chalked up the driveway with a whole little town, it was cute. Tonight we have dance classes and since Michael is working his last night, I'm just going to chop up some leftover chicken and have some chicken salad lettuce wraps. Easy enough, and I could use a night off cooking! Hope everyone is having a good day!

Michelle.....I wish I could say "I haven't worked out in a good 4 days" but let's just diplomatically say "It's been way longer" than four days. :) The Pork Wellington recipe I follow is this one
    http://www.pigpigscorner.com/2010/05/pork-wellington.html
but I don't do the apricots. Benjamin and I used to use a fair amount of sidewalk chalk ourselves. Always so fun! :) Hope dance classes go well and enjoy your Chicken wraps.

I'm sorry, I must have over read the sentence of you telling us what's for dinner! I just thought you forgot to add it! That pork looks amazing! I wouldn't mind trying it with the apricots. I wonder if the kids would go for it, hhhhmmm....

I've been in bed. Today would have been my Ty's 27th Birthday and I can't help but replay his birth and the first steps in our journey together. 27 years seems unreal to me. He was so tiny. Anyway, I've worked myself into a huge tension headache.

Allison and Olivia got the loveseat together. Now, I have to keep the dogs off of it. Fat chance. I'm going to order one of those covers asap. However, the brown cover matches their fur color.

Now we need to rearrange the family room. I don't have it in me today. Pulled turkey pot pie out of the freezer for supper.

Going to start the fire in the fireplace. Jim's picking up a movie from Redbox for us to watch. "Draft Day" or something like that. What's the term for an anti-chick flick? :)
Gentle hugs Tina. May the good memories of Tyler see you through. Glad to hear the Loveseat is whole. :) Turkey pot pie sounds like a good comfort meal.

No rain here today either. It was cool this morning but is super nice now.

Tina - the hide-abed is in the LR now so it is covered with sheets / blanket until I can get around to putting the cover over it. Same reason, except for the cat hair that Mel and A.C. are shedding prolifically all over. Turkey pot pie is a good meal and doesn't take too much effort, which is good for you today. Have a nice cup of peppermint or camomile tea with it or after supper. I have a section of cupboards overflowing with tea - really need to go thru it and replace / remove the older boxes.

Homer can't jump up any more but when he had just gone hard of hearing we would come home and he would either be jumping down off the couch, or asleep on it. So funny. He knew he was not supposed to be on it.

The fire dept. notes are finished. I think it would be delightful if a young couple would move in and decide they couldn't survive without volunteering and doing secretarial work and so on. Dreamer.

The barred owl is cute. So are barn owls. Small. Tiny. Cute. But the great horned just are not my kind of critter. Armadillos are a close second to the least favorite but they have their place in the world. I have no idea what possessed them to exit Texas / Arkansas and head for Missouri. But they came on their own, so we will have to deal with it. Now the dudes that introduced ELK to overpopulated areas - well, that is another story.

Joy isn't allowed on our new couch frank got these pads that buzz if she jumps on the couch or if you accidentally sit on them.

Pads that buzz when a pet jumps on them? Super! I could have used one when Homer was younger and sneaked up on the couch when we were gone.

Fire Dept. meeting went well. I have to check on some election rules tomorrow since we have an April election coming up.
