  • NPMarie 6 years ago
    Hello ODD friends!

Couldn't think of an "M" word for today..not really a marvelous Monday so far but good to have positive thoughts:) Haha

First off, so sorry I'm not here often...and second, I have been thinking of you all going thru the hurricanes in Texas (Michelle) and Florida (Linda, Tina & Kimmer) . I was beside myself with worry and am so glad you all seem to have gotten thru the hurricanes ok..You guys rock in my book xoxox

Nothing much new here, just work, work, work it seems!

I hope everyone else is doing well!

Dinner will be Janet's Cabbage Rolls with a salad. I'm making it early because I'll be busy later on and won't have time:) I'll make the cabbage rolls and bake later..that should work ok..of maybe bake now and reheat? My gosh...can u tell I've been up since 4 am? Sigh.....

A big hello to all..Joce, Janet, Karen, Michelle, Shona, Linda, Tina, Kimmer, Bren...hope I haven't missed anyone...been a while!

    Be back shortly!!!

    Good almost Afternoon Everyone.

Had to get up early today and get myself ready and out the door for haircut and color. After Irma I had a few more gray hairs than usual (LOL!!). Home now and just taking a relaxing break but will see DH later, go to the gym, and then out for something to eat. I have a left over crab cake in the fridge that I'll have for lunch.

So nice to see you Marie!! I bet you are busy but you must start making time for you too. Cabbage rolls sound wonderful. I haven't made them in forever but they are a favorite comfort meal. Will have to short list them for sure.

Wow on your grocery stores still not being stocked Kimmer. All ours here are with everything except still short on water last I was out. They have water just not shelves full of it. I'll give it till the weekend and then will do a Costco run. Want to make sure everything got rotated out so I don't wind of buying something bad.

I have lots of ground beef that I need to do something with. I've been buying the grass fed organic variety and find it "tougher" than the standard so I'm not really enjoying a burger made with it. I know I'll make soup with one pack this weekend but not sure what to make with others so that it won't be tough.

My new grill will be delivered Wednesday and I'm excited. Still need to get an extension hose to hook it up to a standard tank. I love too that I ordered a griddle plate so now I can pan sear fish without smelling up the house.

What's everyone else up to today?

Hi Marie!!! So glad to see you pop in and start the post this morning!
Have you had any major fires near you this summer? The smoke has been bad here but no fires close by. Good idea to cook and reheat later, that's been my thing lately too! So much easier and no fuss when you get hungry later ;)
I guess it's a good thing work has kept you busy. Hopefully not running you ragged busy though! I was just thinking your Birthday is close by. Any plans?

Not much happening here. Dropped the kids off at school and having my morning coffee now. I have some leftover roast beef and gravy, so we might have that over toast for dinner.
It's sooo cold (2C), and it will just get colder so I need to get use to it! Lol! The leaves are all yellow and falling, Autumn is early this year. :) We were running around all weekend getting as much stuff down outside as we could before the frost set in.
I might go into town and look for shoes today or stay home and dye my grey hair, lol...will see what I feel like after my breakfast ;)

Have a great day everyone! :)

Hi Linda! Yay on your new grill coming soon! How about some slow cooker meals for your ground beef--like Chili, sloppy joes or meat sauce for spaghetti?

Hi, Marie! Nice to hear from you! Glad you are busy which means business is good. Enjoy your cabbage rolls. They should be great reheated giving them time to sit makes the flavour even better. Don't work too hard O.K.

Janet, I bet you are still busy with your company.

Linda, Did you bring DH back to the place he stays yesterday?

I hope you enjoyed your relaxing day, yesterday.

Glad you were able to at least get some more meat, Kimmer. I know slim pickin's but it will get better.

Karen and Shona what are you up to today?

We are back to hot humid temps again:( I have a dental appointment this afternoon (just for a cleaning) then after that I have some errands to do. Dinner will be roast chicken, with roasted potatoes and a salad. I might stop by the kid's Farm Stand and pick up some corn on the cob and other things if I get a chance.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

Hi Linda:) Yes, we do need to take time for ourselves..hopefully Fall & Winter will be slower as far as work goes..it's hard when you're self employed..you kindof have to work when u can..but, for our 20th anniversary in Oct, we are going to take a trip to Lake Tahoe I believe:)

I BET u have a few more gray hairs with all you've been thru the last week etc:) Very cool on the new grill! We could sure use a new one!

Holy Crap..I must be typing slow this morning! SP

Shona! LOL, YES I have a BD Sept 22...61 years "young"!!!!
The closest fires have been near Oroville and Concow...I am SO glad Fall is near..it's been cool, in the 70's to low 80's..we had some many weeks of 100 plus temps, everything is dry, dry, dry:( Have a lovely day sweetie:)

Hi Joce! work has been good and steady..Rick has an excellent reputation in these parts..and word does get around..the important thing is he tries to answer his phone, and when he can't he gets back to the customer as soon as he can..companies don't seem to do that anymore I've noticed;) Thanks for the reheating tip...that would be easier since they bake for 2 hours:)

Wow! I missed both Linda and Shona!
Yum! I would love a crab cake right now, Linda. Obviously, you answered my question:) It will be nice to get your new grill setup too!

I love leftover beef and gravy that way, Shona. You are right Marie's BD is very soon. I had everyone's birthday on my old computer. So I am going to have to write it all down again on this computer. Too bad it is so cold!

I googled Magalia, I had never heard of this town before. Sounds like a nice small town, have you always lived there?

  • NPMarie 6 years ago said:
    Wow, SP once again LOL

Sclaire, we've lived in Magalia since 2004, lived in Paradise (a few miles down the hill) before that..I was brought up in Chico, CA..my family moved there in 1962, when I was a wee little baby..LOL It's a nice little community, we have 2 gas stations, one grocery store, a Rite-Aid (!) and lots of tall pine trees:)

That's how the town I live in used to be-too many people now, and we have 3 gas stations and 5 grocery stores. Crowded!

SP is alive and well today! ;)

Your town sounds just like mine Marie. We have two gas stations, a grocery store and drug store. Surrounded by Spruce and Poplar trees though...and many farms and cattle ranches :) I sure hope it cools down for you too!

Hi Sclaire! Nice to see you pop in! Our town was 900 people when we moved here 3 years ago, now it's 1400 with an estimate of 2000 next year. It's getting too crowded for my liking as well.

Hi Joce, yikes on the hot humid weather you're having! As I recall you had a late start to summer than us so I suppose you'll have a later Fall this year. Good luck with your dental cleaning and errands. Your dinner sounds great! :)

Good idea about finding/using recipes for the slow cooker Shona, that will help with the toughness for sure. If the slow cooker can tenderized a brisket or chuck roast and make it fall apart tender I'm sure ground beef will be easy.
Mmmm, on your coffee. I need to make a pot of cold brew. Leftover hot roast beef sandwiches sound great. Wow on your cold temps already and the leaves turning. Start stocking up now. Good luck shoe shopping. What might you be looking for?

Good luck at the dentist Joce and running errands after. Roast chicken is another great meal too. Hoping you have some leftovers for an easy lunch or reheat the next day.

Customer service is a lost art these days Marie. I'm so surprised how many places here just don't return phone calls or get back to you when you have a question.

    Hi Sclaire!

Hi Everyone! I’m just writing up a post offline. The Internet guy is here putting up a new dish to upgrade our service. He discovered a wasp’s nest in the old satellite dish when taking it down. YIKES! He didn’t get stung and he carries a can of wasp spray along with him so all was well.

My cousin and his wife headed off around noon. We had a very nice visit. He’s my Mom’s only sister’s son and I like him a lot. They both very much enjoyed dinner last night as well as the eggs and bacon I fried up for them for breakfast. Jim even gave them a small basket of MacIntosh apples that he picked from his tree this morning so they were happy campers when they left.

I have enough ribs, salad and cold cuts that we’ll just eat leftovers all day long so there’s no need for me to cook today which is nice. We’re going to do a quick run into town shortly. Need Water conditioning salt and a few items from Costco and I’ve run out of peanuts for the birds as well.

Just heading out. HI MARIEEEEE! :) Always so happy when you pop back in!!!! :)

Yum on Cabbage rolls Marie. I've been totally craving them now that Fall has arrived. Jim and I even looked for some cabbage at the Farmer's Market Sat. but they all seemed rather small. Plus the fact that the weather report says we'll be in the high 20C temps all week which isn't really conducive weather for cabbage roll making. Soon though! Hope all is going well on your end. How awesome you might go to Lake Tahoe for your anniversary! I've never been but of course I've heard a lot about it and how beautiful it is there. How is that lake near you this year that almost dried up a few years back? How are your cats?

Yum on the crab cake for lunch Linda. I noticed several more gray hairs just recently myself. I am positive that my Mother gave them to me this summer!!! Wow! :) Could you mix the ground beef you have with say perhaps some ground pork or something to balance it out? I know that would up the fat content, but.....someone on here mixes ground meats together and it's a very common thing to do when making tourtiere.

Yum on having leftover roast beef and gravy Shona! Holy Smokes at 2C! I think we're around 27 right now?

Yum on your Roast Chicken dinner Joce. Hope your cleaning appointment went well.

    Hi Sclaire!

Hi Linda, I'm looking for another pair of Bobs shoes by Sketchers (similar to Toms shoes). The classic slip on shoe. I have a pair of Bobs that I've lovingly wore for 6 years now, everyday. I slip them on to take the kids to and from school even in the winter. I hate tying up shoes and wearing socks, lol ;) I will put on winter boots only if I need and usually keep them in the car just in case. ;) Plus I love that Bobs and Toms donate a pair shoes for every pair you buy ( Bobs donates to animal shelters now and gives shoes to kids in need). And I'm thinking of getting a pair of booties (half boots) that I can zip up or slip on. Something for the wet Fall weather.

Glad you enjoyed the company and the meals were well received Janet! :) I know, the cold was drastictly different then the 30+ degrees we were having 10 days ago. I think that's why I feel so much colder, never had time to acclimate! Enjoy the warmer weather while it lasts ;) Have fun shopping at Costco etc....and enjoy the leftovers tonight!

I checked on the leftover beef and there's only enough for Pete's dinner. So I'll make the kids and I grilled cheese with tomato soup :) I decided to stay home and dye my hair today. Speaking of .....time to rinse!

Hi Janet:) I ALWAYS make your cabbage rolls when the cooler weather arrives:) Smells so good:) I had a huge cabbage..so the rolls are big ones...also, how do they freeze? I have some in another baking dish that I'd like to freeze for another day....
Lake Oroville is better with all the rain we had last Winter..I guess..they are still working on the spillway.here's a drone video showing all the work that's being done 24/7:
It completely broke apart last Winter..Oroville had to evacuate..I think I already mentioned that though.
All 3 cats are really good!
How have u and Jim and family been? Good I hope....
Need to get some office work done, Rick just called , he's done with an install in Forest Ranch (the next hill over) and is on his way to Chico to buy a generator that he found on sale..our power really doesn't go out often enough to warrant one, but u never know..I'm thinking we're in for a bad Winter...so being able to keep the fridge & TV (LOL) going would be just keen:-D

Cool on Bobs shoes Shona. I'd never heard of them before. I'm just like you and I hate tying up shoes or wearing socks.

The Cabbage rolls freeze like magic Marie. I tend to make up big batches and then freeze them to pull out the rest of the winter. I shall try and upload that video. Glad to hear the cats are good. Jim and I spent the last two months in Rainy River. My Mom almost died from septic shock. We saw her through it all and she's doing really well now but can't drive anymore and has decided to move into a senior's assisted living apartment building which I'm thrilled about. So the story had a happy ending. :) Benj is good but missing his girlfriend. Her contract in Taiwan ended so she's back in the Philippines until she can get another contract, hopefully in January. In the mean time she's opening a bakery! So that's pretty cool.

Can't get the drone video to load?

Got some nice socks at Costco. 4 prs. for $10. :) Bought a small container of Pumpkin Spice milk 1% at Sobey's. They say to mix it in with your coffee or with hot chocolate which sounds very fun. I took a little taste and it's quite yummy. I just bought a lovely bottle of Bailey's Irish Cream Pumpkin Spice on the weekend. FALL IS HERE!!!! :)

So cool on his gf opening a bakery!!!
