M&M Monday

    Good Morning everyone!

You seem to be one day behind our weather Kimmer. Hopefully today will be dryer here but we are again expecting rain this afternoon or sometime later. An outdoor kitchen would be wonderful and ideal!! Happy to hear you bought a grill to use in the mean-time and are enjoying it.

When we were at Walmart yesterday we seen the new M&M flavors. I thought about buying them to try but passed … the flavors are Espresso, Crunchy Raspberry, and Crunchy Mint.

No plans yet for today. It's garbage night tonight but we won't put out the trash until morning incase the bear is still around. Haven't heard anything about him for about a week now so maybe he moved on. I will however set up my surveillance camera because I know some neighbors will put out their trash anyhow and see if I can catch him on camera again. Not sure what to make for dinner, hopefully it'll be dry enough to grill.

Very fun about the new M&M flavours Linda! :) I'm not a big M&M fan but I bet I'd love the Crunchy Mint. I was going to ask you if you'd heard or seen the bear lately. It would be best for everyone if he moved on himself.

I made fried eggs with ham and toast for brekkie and then called my Mom. Will clean the kitchen next and then hop outside. Just going to putter at this and that today. It's gorgeous out. Jim and I want to grill something for dinner but I don't know what yet. Our ribs last night were fabulous but we'll go lighter tonight. LOL.

    Have a great day everyone!

Enjoy your peaceful puttering about day today Janet.

I am overrun with bananas in the freezer and decided to try … yes … a new recipe! So I made half the recipe and it's in the oven baking now in a loaf pan. I added walnuts to the streusel filling and cut back on the sugar. I think too I'll pass on the glaze, it'll be sweet enough.

Yum on the banana crumb coffee cake. Sounds heavenly!

Jim is outside enlarging the orchard. He has been trying so hard over the years to get some apple trees established and knock on wood he finally has. Then he bought pear and plum trees and I had two large cranberry bushes and then last week I brought him home a blueberry bush. :) So he is adding on an eight foot section to one side. It looks really good and he loves working on it. :)

Sounds so nice! I would love an orchard! Nothing like fresh picked fruit. What kind of apple tree have you established? Do the deer leave the orchard alone or is it protected in some way?

Jim planted both MacIntosh and Lobo but only the Macintosh are fruit bearing now. The Lobo almost died a few years ago when we had a drought and they haven't come back well enough yet. Jim has a fence around the orchard although it's only 6 ft. tall and the deer could get over it if they really wanted to. He does all sorts of things to dissuade them. :)

Bunnies love small apple twigs. When I lived up north I had access to some apple trees that were not sprayed with any pesticides and were not contaminated with bugs. I use to trim branches and use the thicker ones for perches when I had my cockatiels (they too use to love chewing them) and gave the smaller ones to the bunny I had at the time.

Goodness Linda....I wish you and Bella could teleport here for the afternoon. Bella could munch away happily on both my crop of dandelions and some apple twigs!

Decided to make Fajitas for dinner. A fun Victoria Monday meal. We'll grill the chicken and I have some tortillas from the Lone Star. Guac, peppers, onions, hot sauce....we're good to go!

Bella would love visiting Aunt Janet and munching away thru your yard. LOL!
    Fajitas sound good.
I pulled out a small filet roast and will grill that for dinner with a salad and some other vegetable.

The banana crumb coffee cake turned out delicious!! I cut a piece to taste and just love it. I always cut back sugar in recipes and glad I cut the sugar by about half for this one because it is plenty sweet enough because of the bananas and streusel. I also cut back the streusel by 1/3 and added a good handful of walnuts. It's really good!

Your dinner plans sound great Linda. Wow on being able to cut back the sugar by half and still really liking it. The walnuts would be a great addition.

I've planted thyme, rosemary, marjoram and oregano in the flower garden next to our second entranceway. I've always wanted 'a kitchen garden'. Am also going to sow some lettuce seeds around that area.

It's a beautiful day outside. Just finished eating up the ribs and potato salad for lunch out on the back deck.

Ran out to Home Depot and bought a bag of dirt and potted the Bird Pepper plant and now have that in the front. Couldn't help myself and bought oregano and thyme plants for the last planter I have and will pot those and I know I will use both when cooking. I don't have many planters and would like to get more but not until we get the storm shutters up so I can secure pots in the lanai areas if needed.

That's great you got your Bird Pepper plant potted Linda. LOL @ buying more herbs. It's a tad addictive isn't it? :)

I sowed some Hollyhock seeds that a friend gave me and did a wee bit of weeding. As Tina would say "Stick a fork in me, I'm done". :) Gonna make my way out to the patio set and sit and read a book for our upcoming book chat in June.

Bella would have a fun time munching on our dandelions in our neighbouhood, Linda. Plus we have oodles of bunnies to play with as well. Your banana crumb coffee cake sounds awesome. I am also not a big fan of M&M so I will pass as well.

It is a glorious day, Janet! Jim's orchard sounds very nice indeed! A perfect day to have fajitas too!

We have been working out in the back garden putting down mulch and cleaning up dead branches and things. I have a couple of phlox plants to plant yet along with a couple of other things. I just came back from the garden center where I dropped off a huge bag of plastic pots which they recycle and I am delighted to get rid of them. I have thrown around a bunch of Marigold seeds and I still need to throw some Sweet Willam seeds at the back of my natural gardens yet. Gradually getting there. I still need at least 4 hanging baskets but haven't found any I liked yet. I will go to a better garden center a bit further away this week and see what they have. We are having leftover ham and scalloped potatoes for dinner. Not sure of a side yet. I am just taking a break and will go back outside again shortly.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

It got quite hot out this afternoon Joce! Jim thinks he'll be out there 'til 6 in order to get the fence back on well enough that the deer don't feast overnight, but I knocked off at 4. Sounds like you got a lot of things done in your yard.

Good afternoon and hello to all. Jim's orchard sounds delightful Janet and yum on the fajitas. Sounds like y'all have your plantings under control! I had a kitchen garden once years ago and loved it. Have plans to do that again once I have my outdoor kitchen. I'm sure Bella would have a delightful time at both Joce and Janet's house Linda!

As I mentioned yesterday, it's burgers on the grill. It's so silly, I'm actually excited! Mainly because last time we tried when we thought the grill was back up and functional again it died mid burger and had to finish on the stove top.

Tomorrow night we are meeting some friends of ours at Carrabba's for a 4 course meal and wine tasting. I guess Carrabba's does this frequently but you never see it on their website. Our friends must have an "in" on that. Any way they invited us to go, their treat. The last time we met with them for dinner, which was quite my accident, we treated. The menu sounds heavenly. I can't link cause as I said, it's not advertised on their site. Every course has a wine sample paired accordingly. First course is babyback ribs topped with balsamic tomato bbq sauce and topped with green onions. Second course is a 4 cheese (yes, cheese lol!) manicotti topped with pomodoro sauce, tomato and mozzarella cheese. Third course is a steak topped with roasted tomatoes, gorgonzola cheese and basil. Fourth course is dessert which is Creme Brules, custard with vanilla bean topped with caramelized sugar, whipped cream and strawberries. Just give me 4 courses of the dessert please, lol! So my Tuesday cheese night will be moved to Thursday, lol! Will let ya know how it all was.

Hope all enjoy the rest of the day.

I haven’t seen the new flavors....but espresso wins before even tasting. Your banana crumb cake sounds good, Linda. We have three wild bunnies who have taken to playing in the yard. Trouble tried unsuccessfully to catch one but it was much faster and did bunny disappearing trick to get away.

Your apple orchard sound great Janet. We have t remove some peach trees and add Apple and maybe pear. I am sure the deer will eat them before we do...LOL!

I have no idea what to fix for dinner, Joce, since we have a fire Dept board meeting tonight. Wayne would enjoy ham and scalloped potatoes for sure. We will figure out something when we return, since it will be a short meeting if I have any say. Ha ha. I doubt if our Pres will be there since he is still recouping from surgeries, If he isn’t I will be conducting the meeting and I do not dawdle.

Hope your dinner is fantastic as it sounds, Kimmer!

We had GS again last night as severe storms were rolling through again. His teenage- itis is showing and I am going to have to sit down with him and daughter and lay out the rules for him so he is informed that she and I are on the same page! He wants to stay home when she works and play on the computer all night.... which is not good for the eyes.

The storms were bad but nothing like Friday night. I have him Tuesday to take to the dentist for three tooth extraction in the early afternoon. He has 4H at night and she wants him to attend. We shall see how he feels.

Grilled burgers get me excited too Kimmer, jus' sayin'. :) LOL! Verra nice @ dinner at Carrabba's and wine tasting with friends. Sounds like my kind of event. :) OMG on the menu. WOW!!! That's amazing. Can't wait to hear how your evening goes!

Why do you have to remove the peach trees Karen? We don't have warm enough temps to grow peaches. The orchard is awesome and I honestly love it, but don't mean to glamorize it. It is surrounded by poultry netting and cedar posts that Jim took from the woods when they died. But it's lovely and we are so excited to be able to grow fruit of any kind!!! :) Nice on the bunnies who play in your yard. Hope your Fire Dept. meeting goes swiftly. I feel bad for your GS and having to anticipate three tooth extractions. Ugh. I'm kind of thinking he won't feel up to 4H but we'll see.

Went for a hot tub when Jim was done with his fencing project and made up a batch of Sangria. Deelish. It's already 7:30. Guess I should fire up the grill. So many awesome noises coming in the windows.....squirrels chattering, crows calling.....lovely.

Watching hockey this evening and cheering for Tina's Tampa Bay Lightening. Jim's cheering for the Vegas Knights. LOL.

Janet, the trees were damaged during a severe ice storm and many are almost dead. Need to clear out the dead and dying and fallen branches.

Meeting was quick. Dinner is in the oven. See you later.
