Monday Musings....

    Good Morning everyone!
How are the chicks and kittens doing this morning Karen? Guess you'll be getting all prepared for your daughter and Grandson's visit today. Have fun! Did the storms bypass you?
I've been googling away on the computer thinking about our upcoming trip to go visit my Mom in Rainy River. It's a 22 hour drive from our house to hers and I'm not the best traveller...in that I whine if I am in the car too long. :)
But I think I've got a rough itinerary ironed out, and despite the long drive I must admit I am looking forward to it as we haven't driven out in a long, long time and there are spots that I do like to re-visit. The last few times we've flown.
Cross your fingers and do a rain dance for us please that we do get some rain today. The forecast says 90% so I'm hoping! Everything needs a good watering.
It's only going up to 20C/68F this afternoon yet the rest of the week it's going to get hot so I figure I should maybe do something inside the oven for dinner this evening. I'm going to make
    Chalet Style Chicken
Just have to think of sides.
Tina, didn't hear from you yesterday, except for first first thing, so hope you're doing okay and got some sleep. Did you cheer loudly for Tampa last night? Congrats on the win.
Michelle do you guys go pick up the kids today and are you having dinner with your Mom?
Joce, what fun things did you get planted yesterday?
Marie, how was Rick's birthday celebration? Hope you had a lovely time.
Laurie, saw your pictures of your Anniversary dinner on FB. How awesome!
Did you have a good Zen evening last night Shona?
Have to run into Costco today. I ordered up one print to decorate Benjamin's room. It was ready within hours! If it looks good I'll order up the other two today. Also have to stop in to the library. I put the first season of "House of Cards" on hold and it's in. Yay! No place to rent movies from anymore. :(
    Wishing everyone a great day.

    Good morning, Janet.

It sounds like a wonderful trip ahead of you. I can imagine you as a child being one of those "Are we there yet?" passengers. LOL. My M.O. In the car is to just be quiet and watch the scenery, as there were four of us kids and my Dad didn't do well with noise in the car. Come to think of, I am the same way......ha ha! Wayne always has me drive in Illinois because he gets sleepy with the straight, flat, country road, which I love. He handles St.Louis, I would die before attempting to get through the urban sprawl.

We have not gone outside to.check on the chickies but will change water and check on their food supply and change out the hay/bedding, Mauser has started using the paper beside the litter box, so we are hoping she will either figure it out OR we will make better litter box arrangements.....meanwhile, the bathroom is a disaster. Sigh!

Wayne is fixing his usual eggs and whatever for breakfast. I usually don't eat until later, and then maybe a piece of toast.. Not my meal. I told him that the marriage contract did not include cooking breakfast, it was in the fine print. Ha ha.

Just shifted Mauser away fro the iPad screen so I can resume typing. Mel is prowling the LR looking disgusted at kittens. A.C. Is looking for an exit so they don't intrude on his space. We will lock them up when we go do chores, for their own safety. These two adult cats and kittens don't make a good match unsupervised.

    Have a nice morning.

I don't do well on long trips either, Janet. I couldn't imagine driving 22 hours anywhere anymore! I drove to PEI many times and it was about an 18 hour drive and every time I swore the next time I would fly. I did get a few things planted and Den had his drill and hammer out fixing things. My dragon fly is now up on the fence and I will take a pic of it when it is sunny again. As I mentioned before I bought some extra hanging plants so I could use the plants in other things. One plant I took out to put into a larger pot and there was a toad in it. I thought I had scared it away. Later on we were sitting out and there was a very loud shrill noise and we looked around trying to think of what kind of bird it was. LOL It did it a few more times and I realized it was toad which was stuck somewhere still in the plant. I turned the plant out onto the ground again and sure enough there was the toad! He happily hopped away:) Chalet Style Chicken sounds like a lovely dinner for you and Jim today.

Karen, Good luck with all your little new critters. You are a better woman than me for looking after them all. I don't have that kind of patience anymore. LOL@ cooking breakfast not being in your marriage contract:) I have to agree about driving in St. Louis. I drove around the suburbs but would never attempt the main hwy or city.

Laurie, Your pics on FB for your anniversary are fabulous!

Shona, Great to hear you at least have half of your Vet bill and HA! now you know where she lives! Excellent detective skills Watson:)

It is raining b/c my next door neighbour put down grass seed. It will now probably rain on and off perfectly for a week or two. Her grass is always perfect alone with her garden. LOL It is true the grass always looks greener on the other side:) I am not up to much today, after planting and doing stuff yesterday I am a bit stiff and sore. We will have roasted chicken breast for dinner tonight with mashed potatoes and broccoli with Hollandaise sauce.

    Wishing everyone a wonderful day!

My internet is whacky again! Frustrating, hopefully this works! :)
I'm just about to run out the door, Sophia has a Pediatrician appt. Then, while in town, I'll grab some grocery's, and stop by the Pet Store and Nursery to get some plants. I don't usually shop with Sophia, so this will be interesting!
Wow, 22 hours of driving! I thought driving to Port Alberni was long! It's 12 hours straight to Vancouver without stopping, then a 2 hour Ferry ride, then another 1/12 to Pete's mom's house. We might do it this summer! I really need to try that chicken recipe Janet, is the sauce just like Swiss Chalet's? I love that stuff!
Gotta run, chat later, if the internet lets me! Have a great day everyone!

I was totally an "Are we there yet" kid Karen although my parents didn't have much patience for it and did not kowtow to me whatsoever. I love breakfast and prefer eggs most days.
Yes Joce, I read that you'd bought some hanging plants that you were going to break apart and plant different places. ROFL @ the toad. That's a great story! I have heard that shrill sound as well. I think tree frogs do it as well as we can hear it coming from the eaves-troughs sometimes. :) So sweet of you to rescue it! We are having a wonderful steady rain. The grass and flowers look happier already. Your dinner this evening sounds lovely.
Good luck at Sophia's appointment Shona! If you want sauce just like Swiss Chalet sauce then I'd say it's safer to buy the packages at the grocery store. This one has a bit more of a twang to it. I don't even remember where I got the recipe initially it's been so long!

I forgot to tell you guys about my crepe yesterday. They have a little bakery and you just go in and get whatever you want but they make the crepes right there. I had a Nutella crepe with powdered sugar and whipped cream on top yesterday after lunch. Today they served us lunch in the cabana on the beach and I got a sesame encrusted tilapia sandwich which was very very good and curly seasoned fries. Tonight is the beach party to all the dining will be outside. Buffet style with different stations.

What a great time you're having Laurie! We've never stayed at a sunshine destination resort before and you have me seriously thinking we should change that! :) That tilapia sandwich sounded wonderful. Have a great time at the beach party!
Glad to hear Marie! Enjoy the rest of your day. Your leftovers sound excellent.
Got all our errands run this morning. Picked up my enlargement prints at Costco and got two framed up. I'm really pleased. I'll maybe post a couple of before and after pics of Benjamin's room once we totally have it done. It looks quite different. :)

Joce, LOL on the toad. We have toads show up on the porch and even a frog on one of the chairs. Such a noisy frog! I don't mind the critters, although this is the first time we tried raising baby chickens....really like them old enough to fend for themselves better. The kittens can be a pia but they are destined for barn cats, and it is only Mauser that I have to watch or she avoids the litter box. Have to try some other litter types, etc. etc. to see if we can figure out her problem!

Shona, ugh on the Internet problems! So annoying when it goes offline! Of course, I recall when there was no such thing, or even computers! And we survived without cell phones and GPS systems and dash cams!

Janet, I didn't have any patience in the car, either. Fortunately our daughter was an easy passenger. The middle GS was not. He and I tangled a couple of times until he finally got the idea that Grandma was not to be pushed too far. At 22, he is much better -- HAHAHA!

Laurie, I would have to stop eating for a month if I went there! Everything sounds just super!

Marie, I have about half an hour before the family arrives. Did not get the dusting done or the BR floor cleaned.Did vacuum and wipe off the table so we can sit down. Did not get paper plates -- grrrr! This was sort of a spur of e moment thing. Sort of, kind of. We did straighten the sun room, but it is still piled with books.

Kitties are asleep, Mauser beside me and Trouble on my recliner. Sleepy kitties are good kitties. I only wish I could be twenty years younger so dear Arthur was not assaulting my joints! Bwahahahahaha.

We are grilling burgers and brats, with potato salad, lettuce salad, blackberry cobbler. Kitties will be locked in the bathroom when we eat. They are not thrilled.

Thinking of you, Tina. Have a good day, all.
