Monday's Curry

  • chuckieb 8 years ago
Good morning Everyone! :) I am just warming up some Vietnamese curry that Benjamin's girlfriend made on the weekend for our dinner this evening. She brought it along when she arrived Friday night but we were out too much and never got around to eating it. She also picked up five HUGE rolls from a Vietnamese bakery. Vietnam prides itself on its baking as they were once upon a time occupied by the French. :) The curry smells delish. She's a good cook!
I wrote late last night on Sunday's thread re: yesterday's activities. This morning Jim slept in really late. We didn't eat breakfast 'til like 11:30 so had a slow start. Rain was forecast so we decided just to lay low and easy. Wanted to buy Benjamin a few kitchen supplies. He has no plates, pots, etc. in his new place so we located the closest Ikea. I think it's hilarious Ikea is in Taipei but it does make perfect sense business wise. :)
We ended up getting him a nice big nonstick frypan, a decent sized saucepan, two plates and two bowls. We're still on the lookout for some forks, knives, spoons etc.
Benj just got off work at 7:30 and is on his way over.
Hope everyone has a great day.
Pic below of the Wellcome Grocery store sign I was talking about last night. :)

Love the IKEA piictures on FB, Janet. Would love to have one near us but the last I checked they were a zillion miles away. LOL on the beer! The Welcome Grocery Store sounds so cool, esp. located in the basement of a clothing store. Have a good day. I know you said when you are returning, but it has escaped my FST mind -- Saturday?

Curry is not one of my favorite spices, but I grrew up in the heart of the Midwest so was not exposed to that type of cooking. It does sound interesting. Maybe I will get brave and try making something using curry.

Blondie was trapped again for the fourth or fifth time - he SNARLED and growled when Wayne went over to trip the release catch. A real bad boy. I put pix on FB. He is in good shape for winter. Geezer's cat food must agree with him.

Morning! Yum I bet you guys enjoyed the curry, sounds so delicious!! Ikea is a great place to stock up on home supplies, love that they have them in Taipei Janet! We have an Ikea about 45 minutes away in Katy.

Wow on blondie Karen, he just doesn't learn his lesson does he?! Lol.

I didn't really get into details last night on Briauna's game but she was the 1st pitcher. She struck out 2 girls and caught a ball that got hit straight to her for an out. So proud! Second game was horrible, she didn't pitch and we lost so bad it hurts :( Season is almost over...one more weekend for Bri and 2 for Caiden. Then it all starts back over again in February lol. So basically it seems like it never ends! I personally LOVE being at the ball fields though! Dinner is http://www.food.com/recipe/mexican-tortilla-meatball-soup-65578 Wishing everyone a great day!

Yum, enjoy the curry! I'd love to go to a Vietnamese bakery, how cool. I love the Chinese steamed buns and the those little sponge cakes with the exotic fruits, cream and glaze. My old boss use to bring us those cakes whenever it was someone's birthday, along with pork buns and steamed buns. That's very nice of Benjamin's girlfriend to make you dinner. There must be an Ikea everywhere, lol! I'm surprised they didn't have cutlery there. I hope you find some for him :)
Karen, my parents would never ever try any kind of non-western food. They were impossible at times! They would come visit me in Vancouver and the majority of restaurants were Indian, Thai, Vietnamese, Korean, Greek, etc...Then a few years ago when my brother was dating his wife, they went out to dinner to an Indian restaurant. I guess to impress her they didn't fuss over the location. Now they love curry! I even got them to try Thai food last year, and they love that type of curry now too.
Hi Michelle, that Mexican tortilla soup sounds interesting, will go have a look! Never thought of meatballs with Mexican but it's probably good! Oh, just had a look, that looks super yummy!!
Tonight is leftovers Thai Chicken Spaghetti I made it with rice and added snow peas to it. Tomorrow is beef stew.
Sophia's fever has gone away, but she's left with a very stuffy nose and extremely painful headaches. She woke up at 5am screaming and crying that her head hurt so bad she thought she was going to die! She hasn't been that bad since she was in the hospital, so I guess it's sinusitis :( All I can do is give her advil and nasonex and hope it goes away soon and doesn't turn into an infection. Her room is steamed up and I even rubbed Vicks Vaporub on her forehead where the pain is. Thankfully there's no school for a few days. We can all relax :)
    Have a great day everyone!

Hi all. So it is Mexican dinner tonight, Michelle and Laurie. I like it as long as there are no re-fried beans.....even tacos must be re-fried-beanless. LOL. Love fajitas. Wayne is not tolerant of any Mexican food, he won't even eat fajitas! He has on occasion tried and eaten (not happily) a taco salad but hates re-fried beans worse than me - and won't tolerate guacamole or more than a mini-size bite of onion. Fish tacos would be grounds for divorce - Bwahahaha.

Shona - are you certain your parents are not related to Wayne? Their culinary tastes sound exactly like his.

Hi, Marie. Glad you got rain. Our next chance is Wednesday. Slight chance of storms but they keep vacillating on how far North / South they will hit. Typical weathermen. Ha!

I am still lookking for banana pepper recipes. Will probably have to freeze or dehydrate them. May make banana pepper mustard...a rather strange AR recipe but it sounds interesting and most all the reviews are favorable. We shall see what we shall see. I am in the sun room taking a break while Wayne and his buddy are working on the carriage house. It is a beautiful day outside. Nice and cool. They relocated one of the blinds, and I took the Gator down to look it over. Should be nice.

    See you all later.

Frank's away so we will have all the things he doesn't really care for. The fish tacos were really good.
I just took a nice hot bath wi Epsom salt and lavender I'll be sleeping soon lol. It was a little too hot. Probably because I didn't have Frank over my shoulder to worry about the water.

Benjamin just headed off to work. He came over to the apartment this morning and I made all of us Poached eggs on toast with ham for breakfast. (Warmed the cockles of my heart) :) It's supposed to rain today so not sure what we'll do. We're going to meet up with Benjamin once he's done work at "The Hammer", that bar he used to frequent last year.
Yes Karen, Jim and I leave Taipei at 9 a.m. Saturday morning and are back in Ottawa around 9 p.m. Saturday (which in Taipei would be 9 a.m. Sunday). Kind of fun. We gain back a day! :)
Way to go Bri on her pitching. She has done so great this year! You totally should be proud of her Michelle! :) That Mexican tortilla meatball soup sounded yummy. I'm so craving soup. Nice that you enjoy being at the baseball fields.
I never liked the steamed pork buns until this trip over Shona! I used to only like the baked ones. Now I realize the steamed ones aren't sticky and are light and fluffy and just like Gua Bao....the traditional little steamed buns that they stuff with pork, etc. and sell here at all the night markets...and...it's the same dough that Momofuku uses for their famous pork belly buns. I'm not so much into their cakes and desserts. They use a lot of gelatinous things which I'm not as keen on. Ikea did have sets of cutlery but we just wanted a few individual pieces as Benjamin won't ever use an entire set and his other room mates already have theirs. (Plus he has left 'things' behind in past apartments that we had given him so we don't buy anything too pricey) :) That's hilarious that your parents love curry now! My Mom's similar. If you say Thai food, she'll immediately say she doesn't like anything hot. So I try and tell her that she can order how hot she wants it just like she can order how well her steak is done, but she's still suspicious. :) Oh my goodness, poor Sophia and her headaches giving her so much pain! :(
Hope Frank enjoys his conference and also gets to have a nice visit with his parents Laurie. Yum on fish tacos. Did the bike hurt your legs or did it feel okay?
Wayne would hate to come to my house to eat if he doesn't like onion Karen. I go through a ton of onions on a regular basis. I think the banana pepper mustard sounds cool. As does making your own mustard!
    Marie? SNOW? Wow. :)
    Sleep sweet all!
