Monday's Menu?

    Good Morning Everyone!
Laura, nice to see you in here last night. Sounds like you had a lovely weekend. That's so nice you had the Christmas Party at your Dad's. It'd make him feel even more involved. Fun too that you got his house all decorated at the same time. And a boat cruise on a sunny day is indeed a great way to spend it. Loved your Grilled Ham and Swiss. I should plan a soup and sandwich dinner one night this week.
ROFL @ the girl guides looking at you like you're a crazy old woman Marie. LOLOLOL. Love it. "The Holiday" is a classic. Love that movie. Saw some pictures on the News last night about the storms in California. Scary. Stay safe.
    The
    Brined Turkey Breast
was AMAZING! I'll write it up in IMI in a bit. I think I'm a big fan of brining. Any recipe I've tried I've loved. The flavour just permeates the meat. It was awesome.
And Tina we really enjoyed the Clementine/Fennel salad as well although I'm going to wait to get all the proper ingredients and make it again before I actually rate it. I love Sambuca and I only had a mild Asiago cheese and only a few skimpy capers. I'll post a pic below. It was fun to cook with the fennel. I found a youtube video on how to cut it as I didn't know what to do with it at all. Infact, it was really funny because at one point Benjamin came into the kitchen while I was working with it and said "What's that"? as he'd never seen a fennel bulb before. He went back for seconds on the salad. :)
I'm going to make Chicken a la King in Puff Pastry for dinner this evening with a veggie version for Benjamin.
I made great inroads in my Christmas card letter pile yesterday so will work on that some more today as well. All the rain yesterday made our snow go away. Waaaaaaa......

Good morning! I'm sorry I haven't been around much. I've been a busy bee. I'm flying to Miami today, leaving here in 2 hours. Heavy fog out & high of 60. Kind of strange for Dec.. Almost totally packed, just need to get my makeup & toiletries together. I'll be there until next Wed. but I'm sure I'll get a chance to check in. Have a great day everyone!

Have a great trip and a safe flight Dahlia! I've never been to Miami ever but whenever I hear that name I always think of the Bugs Bunny Skit...."Miami Beach, Miami Beach at last". :) I checked the weather network and you're going to get up to 77F once you land this afternoon. Have fun!

    Good morning!

Janet, it's not supposed to rain today, but it will on Tues & Weds. No wind in the forecast, so that's good..your pic of the salad is great! Looks divine...will have to check out the brine recipe for sure!!!

Hi Dahlia, have a wonderful trip!

I'm thinking chicken & dumplings for dinner...

    Hello to everyone!

Morning Marie! I know you said in the past you've found brined meats somewhat salty. The brined Turkey breast recipe called for 1/2 cup kosher salt in 3 quarts of water. Indeed the turkey tasted seasoned but I didn't find it was too salty and we don't use a lot of salt in our food generally. I do recommend the recipe. So yummy! Chicken and dumplings sounds yummy too.
Saw an article in our local paper last week about about New York City actually having a day go by without a violent crime being reported. Last Monday, there was not a single report of a person being shot, stabbed or subjected to a violent crime in the City of New York. In 1990, at the apex of the city's problems with crime, officials recorded 2245 murders. This year to date there have only been 366.

It is a beautiful sunny day today Janet! LOL I am not missing the snow either! I thought you might like the fennel salad as it tastes a bit like liquorice and I know you like that. I love Chicken A La King what a great idea for dinner. Funny I haven't made it in ages and I was thinking about it the other day. Your 1st Christmas tree ornament experience brought tears to my eyes too! I do that every year when I go through mine as there are many hand made ones made by me, my brother and my son when we were little. I should really separate them into just one special box as I don't do a large tree anymore.

Dahlia, Have a safe trip to Miami. I thought maybe when you mentioned it at first you might be going and staying for Hanukkah. Enjoy the sunny south just the same though.

Marie, I was a Girl Guide and Brownie not a Scout! LOL until Janet mentioned it I hadn't thought of the difference! Talk about getting old! I think the last time they came to the door Den can never refuse them ever! I think the cookies are selling here for about $5.00 a pack now!!! Glad you high winds have subsided too.

    Tina, Have a Happy TGIM!

We are having hot roast beef sandwiches for dinner and I am hoping to find my recipe for banana chocolate chip muffins which seems to have disappeared!I keep searching and it is probably under my nose! I will probably go out and finish the pots with the pine boughs and red twigs adding a bit more sparkle here and there.

    Good Morning!!

LOL....I would have run off with Delbert in a heartbeat! Had a blast...he was on fire. :) Very fun night. Got a little shopping done on Saturday. Then we had Kynda as soon as we got home until her Mom got off at 9, and we went to bed immediately thereafter. Then, we had Jaden and Kynda both from 11 - 7 yesterday, and did all the decorating. I mimicked a tree I found on Pinterest, and it turned out well. Although, the instructions said 3 feet of the beaded garland for every foot of tree. We have a 7 ft tree. I could only get the garland in 9 ft lengths, and I bought 3 of them just to be sure I had enough. NO. It was NOT ENOUGH. You can't even tell it's there. But, no way I was going back to West Knoxville for more yesterday. : ( I will have to go back after work one day soon, because they only had 2 or 3 of them left after I bought mine on Sat, so we will have it next year. Had a couple of good stiff drinks after the kids left. Could not concentrate on the computer at any of the few times I had a chance to look at it. lol

Have read back and sounds like everyone is doing pretty well.

The brined turkey breast does sound good, Janet! YUM. So glad you enjoy the spaghetti. I could go for some of that myself. And that salad sounds very good, too. Aww...I can only imagine the Christmas decorating being bittersweet for you this year. Hugs, girlfriend. That's very good to hear of the drop in the crime rate at NYC. And sad that it's news that they had one whole day without a violent crime! LOL at the Bugs Bunny cartoon...love the old ones!

    Safe trip, Dahlia!

I love me some Chicken n Dumplings, Marie! I may do that this weekend. YUM. Hope those awful storms are behind you!! No you are not a crazy old woman! You are FSW!!!!! lol

Now that Delbert has come and gone (swoon), it's time for me to determine what I will have at our Christmas Party - which is only a week from Saturday!!! OMG. Definately finger foods. No onions, no peppers, and no seafood. (sigh) Will be going through my bookmarks over the next couple of days. I have a boat load of them.

Beef tips in mushroom gravy over noodles for dinner, with a salad and bread. Easy peasy.

HI to all not here yet, have a great day!

Morning Joce! I think you're right on the price of the Girl Guide cookies but $5 is still a good price I think cuz they're pretty yummy. I don't like the new mint ones though, just the old fashioned vanilla and chocolate with the icing in the middle and I always eat the chocolate ones first. Double yum on your Hot Beef sandwiches. Love that! Yum on the Banana Chocolate chip muffins too. Good luck finding your recipe. I do that so often it's not even funny! I'm very sad our snow has gone. There should be snow in Dec. Isn't it a law? LOL! :) But seriously....I hope we get some more soon. We must have a white Christmas, we must! I'm going to go out and do my outdoor decorating tomorrow as it's supposed to be even warmer than today!
Hurray! Lori returned! :) LOL! Missed 'ya. Glad to hear you had loads of fun on Fri. night. You'll have to post us a pic of your tree or at the least, the Pinterest tree so we can see what you're describing. :) LOL at FSW. That's so funny. Oooooo....your dinner sounds amazing. Set an extra spot for me please!

Well, we are going to Sac to pickup some doors & openers etc, so dinner will be whatever we can find when we get back later this evening...decided to go today, because it's going to rain tomorrow & weds..Rick will be busy all week so that's the plan...

Lori! We thought you'd be with Delbert on a tropical beach somewhere sipping drinks with umbrellas:D I have to say I'm proud to be FSW! Now, FSW WOULD be on a beach with Delbert having a cocktail minus the frickin umbrella of course! LOL Man oh man, it would sure be nice to getaway today, but I'd take Rick with me of course..we are married afterall, and he wouldn't approve of me going off with Delbert without him..lol Glad to hear you had such a good time!

Joce, a girl guide must be the same as a girl scout, anyway, their cookies are a bit expensive..did I ever tell you that when I was a girl scout, cookies were 50 cents a box? ROTFLOL!!!

Janet, yum on chicken a la king in puff pastry..is it posted???

Envy you the drive to Sacramento Marie. I've never been around that area and it'd be fun to see it. Sounds like Rick has been busy lately which is great! Ya, I'm sure Girl Guides and Girl Scouts are the same. Same difference. LOL! No, I don't have the Chicken a la King posted yet. Will do that tonight. I've made this recipe for years.
Did up three more Christmas cards and letters and now I'm carting up more Christmas decorations from the basement. Getting the fireplace mantel gussied up.

I will post a pic of the tree. I don't think we even took any yesterday, but we will. The pinterest tree looks better, so, I won't post it. LOL jk. I want some snow too!!!! Maybe I should get up and do a snow dance! It's sunny and 60 degrees today...that is just NOT December weather. As nice as it is...it's not December weather.

    Marie, I WISH I was anywhere with Delbert...especially on a tropical beach...*sigh*

Oh man...I have to figure out something for Bryan's 50th bday party, too. Oy Vey.

Hello there. Lunch break here. I love Winn Dixie's wing bar and I get a few wings for lunch once a week. Mojo today.

I am working on the last item for the spice baskets which is a cookie mix bag of Aunt Aggies Oatmeal Cookies . I thought it would be fun to give them the mix and let them make cookies when there isn't so much sweet stuff around.

Tonight I'm hankering hamburgers. Burgers, fries and a beer nice and simple.

Well I finally found my recipe! Phew and it was right under my nose! I might not get around to making them today. I have been gradually hauling Christmas boxes and things upstairs.

Lori, You did have a busy weekend! I want to see that tree! NO! NO! Snow dance then it won't stop until Spring!!!

Marie, How far is Sacramento from you? LOL Kiddo.:-)

Laura, It is nice everyone went to Dad's yesterday and decorated for him. He is a lucky man indeed! The cookie mix addition to the spice baskets is a great idea. I applaud your talents and skills. Enjoy your burgers, fries and beer.

Mmmmm....a snow dance hey Lori? That sounds like a good idea. Let me think on that one. :) When's Bryan's 50th again?
Yum on the wings Laura. I adore wings. The Oatmeal Cookie mix is a fabulous idea. And just so thoughtful because it's from family to family. Aunt Agnes would be super tickled I'm sure. Yum on the burger and fries. I'll have a white wine with mine please. :)
Sounds like you and I are doing the very same thing today Joce. I've got my mantel all decorated and now I'm going to go dig out garland to put on my front foyer staircase banister.

Hey Laura! Yes, burgers, fries and a beer sounds good to me too. Love the cookie mix in the gift baskets. Very nice gifts.

lol Joce...I don't want THAT much snow!

Janet, his 50th bday is Jan 10th, and we will have a party Jan 12th, since he's off. Don't have a clue what I'm going to do, or where. I will figure something out, though. He kind of wants to get everyone to meet at the house and take a limo to go out. Would be fun, but, I had plans for things that wouldn't work at a restaurant. Now that Beth is downstairs I can't count on using it. Kinda hate to ask people to spend that kind of money...inviting them for a night out of food and drinks at a restaurant...but they could afford it. Hmmm. We will see. We'd spring for the limo...so...idk. Wanted to get a cabin in the mountains and have it there...which would be great...but...I don't think many would drive that far for a party and then have to drive home...that's probably not too practical. Hmmm....something will come to mind.

Hi Laurie! How's your cold? My throat is killing me today. I'm hoping it's a reaction to this puffer I'm taking and that I'm not coming down with a cold. Your dinner sounds sooooo good. Are you having a big Hanukkah dinner this weekend?
Okay Lori...I found a song called "Snow Dance" that is very pretty. The video is a bit long but it's nice if you have a second to sit and listen. That's you and me on the guitars. LOL. Actually they're called "Depapepe" and they're from Japan. Fun, Fun that Bryan's big 50th is coming up so soon. You do indeed have lots of party planning to get to. A restaurant is always fun. Of course a cabin in the mountains sounds AMAZING but I think you're right that people may find it far to drive and then head home again after. I'm sure you'll come up with something.
Just came back from getting the mail. Nine deer right beside me in the field. Could have hit them with my shoe. Slightly un-nerving but they didn't all stampede me. Guess I held my ground well enough. LOL!
