Monday's Micro-greens!

  • chuckieb 8 years ago
Good Morning Everyone! It's going to be a hot one for us today. (Well...hot compared to our normal temperatures, not hot like a lot of you get!) :) Going up to 29C/84F this afternoon.
We've decided to grill some of Michelle's burgers for dinner.
    Bacon Gouda Patties
Love that recipe! And then I'll either make a potato salad or a couscous salad on the side.
Jim's got a Dr.'s appointment in town this afternoon so we'll probably grab lunch while we're out.
Heard the coyotes close by last night. Lovely sound.
Have a dot of poison ivy on my left little finger. :(
Michelle, how did that Italian dressing turn out last night? I checked out the recipe and think it's a very cool thing to have on hand. Did you enjoy it?
Wow on the snake in the hen house Karen. :( Glad you enjoyed the fireworks.
Nice memories of your family camping trip when you were a kid Shona! Neat on floating down a winding river in a dingy! :)
Years ago when Jim, Benjamin and I were at Jim's family cottage, our nephew was swimming near the dock and yelled out that something had bit him. We all told him he was imagining it until he let out another shout. The guys got in the water and looked under the dock and there was a HUGE snapping turtle under there that had taken a dislike to David. LOLOL. Sorry, shouldn't laugh I guess. :)
Pic below of the dish of micro-greens I bought at the Market on Saturday for $5. The lady says to keep them watered and they should last 2-3 weeks. I used some in my beet salad last night. Really liked them.
    Wishing everyone a great Monday!

    Morning, Janet!

You sure have a busy day ahead of you. Enjoy lunch out. Hey, I agree with any excuse for lunch elsewhere. LOL! Hardees and Culvers both have a "Strawberry Fields" salad. I had it at Culvers and really liked it. Very filling, not all the empty calories. The lettuce / greens look great - I need to try that sometime.

Wayne's buddy is going to bring some traps (live traps) to capture and relocate the new raccoon who has been frequenting the porch. It is a dark gray, can't make out much striping on the body but this was at night when he was chowing down on cat food on the window sill on the front porch. There are too many raccoons in the area and my chickies need protecting. After seeing the pix of the black snake at night, their well being is in question.

It is humid, the temp. is to hit 87 F today. Rain predicted off and on, we are far ahead for the year. Any rain will make floods possible, ground is saturated. The Big Piney River is over its banks but so far no real danger. Our little dry creek is quite full and we elected NOT to drive the Gator over it. So the "back forty" is not really accessible. This is sometimes a Spring weather event, very unusual for July and our hay needs cutting and baling - impossible until we have dry weather. At least we have some new hay in the loft. Just not enough for winter.

The hawk was awesome. Will have to take precautions for chicken well being, and the kittens have had their outdoor time postponed. It is a HUGE hawk! I hope he moves on.

Have a good day. I best get some work done.

Ugh on the poison ivy, Janet:( I am lucky I have never had it. I doubt it was a snapping turtle that bit your nephew they are quite fierce. If they bit they do not let go and they can bit through a two by four! I remember a stupid fellow who saw a huge one crossing the road on HWY 16, (probably to lay its eggs?) he stopped his car and got out to go take a picture of it and it went after him with a vengeance. He hardly made it back to his car! I also remember a smaller one (maybe a foot around) decided it was going to lay its eggs on the hill outside our cottage. My Dad was worried about our dog finding it and he took a two by four and it held onto it with its razor sharp teeth and wouldn't let go and my Dad just picked her up by the two by four and moved her down to a Bay on our Island where she wouldn't bother anyone. We all think turtles are slow but they can really move when they want or have to. I love micro greens they are so easy to keep and Michelle's Gouda Burgers are a really good idea for such a hot humid day.

Karen, I have a terrible phobia about snakes. I don't even like typing the word. I hope you can keep your little chicks safe from everything.

Tina, Your new neighbours sound wonderful and how nice of Liv to teach the little boy to swim:)

I have a hair appointment this afternoon to get my hair cut and then I am going to visit a friend. We ended out having pork chops last night b/c we picked them all up yesterday and then we didn't have to thaw anything. We will have chicken tonight. Not sure how I will cook it yet or what we will have with it.

    Wishing everyone a wonderful day!

Heading for a drive to a place where Jim can buy a pc. of 1" x 10" cedar to fix a pc. of fascia on the house.
Wow on your warm temperatures Karen. Will cross my fingers for some dry weather for you so you can get that hay in.
Goodness on the encounters with the snapping turtle Joce. Have fun at your hair appn't and your visit with your friend.

Hey Michelle! Have fun at lunch. (I giggled a little at 'toned down Chuck E Cheese) :) Too fun on Super Hero Camp for Caiden. They should offer that for adults too. Seriously!
The wood store that we went to was very cool. They had a HUGE pc. of thick cherry there to be used for a Harvest table top. It was stunning. $1000. Yikes. Cool deli close by so stopped in. I think it was you Shona that was telling us about potato dumplings awhile ago? I bought a box! :) Also got a can of sauerkraut (WAY prefer cans to bottles as it's so freakin' hard to get the lids off the jars!), some Nando's Peri-peri rub and Nando's Peri-peri sauce. Went for lunch at Thi Fusion. I had the Teriyaki Salmon Bento Box and Jim had Lemongrass chicken. $10 lunch specials. Good deal!

Back from exercise class. Moan, groan. Should have done the sets at home on Friday. We used weights today and it is ROUGH.

Janet, we spend lots of time at Lowe's getting wood in all sizes. Hope you find which one you need.

We are having chicken breasts tonight. also, Michelle. Have not decided how to fix them but we shall see. Spinach salad to go with. Maybe a Yukon potato also or carrots.

Boo on the snake phobia, Joce. My Dad had a phobia of snakes, would kill even a harmless garden snake if it came near. They don't bother me, although I don't want one in my house, no snake pets, no, no, no. I don't pick them up or anything, but they are not on the "attack with flame-throwers, guns, knives etc." list. Except for copperheads - I will do them in in a heartbeat.

I need to crash for a short nap! Have a good day.

Busy day here today. Our bathroom plumbing gave up today. I looked down and there was water in the hallway. Broken pipe that was over 65+ years. Bad part is it is under our stall shower. They have to rip all of it out. Remodel in store so lots of trips to Home Depot starting tomorrow.
Cold cereal breakfast, cold ham sandwich and Chef salad for dinner. It doesn't help that it was in the high 90's again today. So I was not into cooking today. Will thaw out a steak for tomorrow or my husband might leave me!
Love your micro-green bowl, Janet. Wish our Farmers Market would sell things like that.
That's it for this evening. Hope everyone has a wonderful day tomorrow.
