Monday's Musings.....

  • chuckieb 6 years ago
Good Morning Everyone! It's Monday....the start of a brand new week. We have Jim's cousin and family arriving for dinner this evening. The six of us are heading off to Jim's Dad's cottage tomorrow morning for three nights. I'm doing all the meals so have been working hard at menus and organizing.

For dinner tonight we're going to BBQ some steak, sautéed asparagus on the side and
    Twice Baked Spinach Potatoes
I may do a shrimp appetizer as well. For dessert I bought these cute sorbets that come served in actual fruit shells (eg. orange, lemon, pineapple) that I bought at Costco. We've had them before and they're yummy.

I also need to clean the floors and decorate and set the dining room table. The girls love when I decorate for occasions so I like to do it up right. :)

That's neat that bunnies like nibbling on willow trees Linda. I've not seen any bunnies nibbling ours but we do get porcupines chewing on them quite often. We've always figured they must like the taste.

We had eggs for breakfast, lunch and dinner yesterday so I'll make smoothies and toast for our breakfast this morning. LOL

Hope you had a good trip to St. Augustine Kimmer! Bren, how did your weather hold out at the cottage?

    Wishing everyone a great Monday!

Morning Janet! I was just sitting here trying to think of a Monday thread title lol, glad you started one :) Fun on going to the cottage with family, I bet all of your meals will turn out deeeelicious, your are a great planner and host! Yum on your dinner, love the sound of the sorbet's! Lol at eggs all day yesterday, sounds like my kind of meals :P

We had a blast a Schlitterbahn yesterday. Well at least the second half of the day. It rained, thundered and lightning all morning, so the rides and pools were shut down until after it stopped. It wasn't until 12:30 that the park let us play. They do not do refunds or rain checks once you are in the park AT ALL, unless it's a hurricane or tornado coming through, then they will completely close down the park for the day and refund. So we staked it out, but we were pretty worried that we were going to be there all day just waiting. We left at about 6:30 and grabbed some BBQ on the way home.

Swimming classes are back on for one more week. That's about all we have planned though until tonight. Dinner will be leftover hamburgers, hot dogs, taco's, or BBQ. Lol, we have to get all this food out of my fridge! Wishing everyone a great Monday!!

Good morning Janet. Your frozen desserts sound so good. I am sure the girls will love them. Are there going to be seven people at the cabin? It must be fairly large to accommodate so many. When I think cabin I picture a quaint one room hunters cabin but I guess I have to expand my thinking....ha ha!

We are awake and ready to fix a cup of coffee before taking off. Only going a third of the way but we already had reservation so didn't want to change it and hunt for an RV park on the way. Next time we will look for a half way point maybe around Springfield, Illinois.

Fritz has had a blast. He loves meeting people who make over him and he has to be reminded about his manners. He is a slow learner! The RV has an electric fake fireplace and since it was cold tonight we left it on low to keep him warm.

The reunion was fun. I met the "wild child" of the class and we hit it off at once. She recently moved to Tennessee and they found an acre of land. Have, or her, lots of room. She has no pets but her husband has rescued strays and either found a home or took to a shelter. I enjoyed teasing her about needing a guard cat and showed her the picture of Mel "holding" our GS's (toy of course) toy gun and e plainer he was daurding the house. We evidently have similar sense of humor.

Coffee is ready. Then we are on our way after hooking up. See you later.

Glad you guys had such a great time at the Water Park despite the bad weather in the morning Michelle. Do they have indoor areas with things to do when it rains? Nice on more swimming classes. Your dinner sounds perfect for a summer's day.

Morning all. Your meal sounds delish, Janet. I'll have to look for those sorbets the next time I'm at Costco. I'm sure that all meals served at the cottage will be enjoyed.

Sounds like a fun time, Michelle. Water and children seem to go hand in hand.

Lol @ the "wild child" and Fritz, Karen.

Sat. at the cottage was great, thanks Janet. We were just about to eat on the deck with the sky opened and it poured but that's ok. Sunday was really cold for this time of year, around 15. The ants are still there but in #'s that are acceptable. Annie had a blast trying to catch the catfish and didn't want to leave, she shows her displeasure by giving us her back in the car.

Gotta run but will try and check in later.

Morning Karen! SP! :) Yes, there'll be seven of us at the cottage. The cottage has two bedrooms upstairs plus a couch in the living room with a fold out bed. There's a queen bed in the above ground basement and also a 'bunkie' that sleeps two as well. Glad to hear Fritz had a good trip. Safe travels today!

Morning Bren. Here's the sorbets so you know what to look for. They're really yummy.

    Good Afternoon Everyone.

Busy start to my day ... when I got up had to get myself ready and out the door for my follow up visit with the cardiologist. He was very happy with my tests results and said "I had nothing to be concerned about, everything looked great". BIG RELIEF!!

While I was there someone had their 3 dogs in a car without the air running and only the windows cracked so I called Animal Control and reported it. When I was finished my appointment (almost 45 minutes later) and was going out to my car I seen the woman who owned the vehicle sitting in the car with it running. I called Animal Control back to update them (nice of them to have gotten someone out so quickly - NOT!) and then went over to the woman and told her I reported her. I have no tolerance for people who mistreat children or animals.

Enjoy your company Janet. Wow, you will be busy. I love those fruit shells sorbets. They are so fancy and served in restaurants.

That stinks on the water park not giving refunds or rain checks Michelle if you no sooner get there and then the bad weather rolls in. Glad to hear thought it didn't last all day and everyone got to enjoy some of the day.

LOL! Karen ... LD is still learning how to behave around people and tomorrow he turns 11! Happy to hear you too were able to enjoy the reunion.

I just sent this article to a friend who is having ant troubles Bren. Perhaps it may be something you want to do ...

On the way home from the doctors this morning I stopped at the grocery store for some items. I'll go again towards the end of the week for fresh items that I'll use for when DH is here. Pork loins were on sale for buy one get one free so I picked up 4 total for the freezer.
Will see DH this afternoon and we will go to the gym.
Have to get up early and out again tomorrow because LD has his dental check up.

That's wonderful you had such a great outcome at your Cardiologist's Linda. Great deal on the pork tenderloins. Good luck at the gym. Poor LD having to go to the Dentist on his birthday! :)

Glad you had fun at the reunion Karen, sounds like you had fun :(
Janet they did have an indoor section but it all connects to the outside in someway so we still weren't allowed to be in that. Wow that's a huge cottage!

Sounds like you had a good time at the cottage Bren! Lol at Annie, especially her giving you the cold shoulder :P

Congrats on your test results Linda!! Good for you calling Animal Control and telling the woman off.

At swim lessons right now and it is HOT!! They took down the umbrellas last week in preparation for the storm that was "coming" and never put them back up, so the parents are baking away lol.

The cottage really isn't that huge. It's just a little summer home. What do you guys call that? That's just silly not to have put the umbrellas back up. :(

Good afternoon all. Just got back from St. Augustine about an hour ago so will have to read back. Trip was good both business and pleasure wise. Had wicked weather last night and both hubs and I got drenched trying to get back in the truck from the restaurant we were at. Then the ride home today was like Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. Drove thru some torrential downpours at times. Scary when you are on the interstate! Got home and the sun was shining over our house, lol. Chloe was not mad this time. As a matter of fact she came running right up to me when I came in the door. Cayce took good care of her, as usual, and played with her quite a bit.

Not sure what's on the dinner menu yet. Not cooking anything so just might be Kentucky Fried Chicken or maybe Boston Market chicken and sides. Ben was home from work today with a toothache so maybe mashed potatoes will suit him well. Calling the dentist tomorrow. He has a temporary filling from a recent root canal that was suppose to be finished up in a week. The pain is in that area so thinking something might be up with that. Gave him some stronger pain medication so that should do the trick and hopefully will get in to the dentist tomorrow. They are usually pretty good about squeezing you in when pain is involved.

Will try to pop back later. Enjoy the rest of the day all.

Glad you had a good trip Kimmer. LOL @ Mr. Toad's wild ride. Goodness at the torrential downpours. It would be crazy to be on the Interstate with that going on as you just can't pull off to the side and wait it out can you! Sorry to hear Ben has a tooth ache. Hope they fix him up asap.

Okay...I'm officially pooped. I've prepped dressings and sauces and such so I can just bring that as opposed to a ton of ingredients to the cottage. I even put pork skewers in marinade and froze them so they'll be all set when I need them. I want to visit and have fun this week as well as being Chief Cook. :)

Jim is just sweeping up the front interlock and then I think a hot tub might be in order. Guests messaged to say they'd be arriving around 6. They got a late start. :)

Hi again. We just returned from Lunch at Woody's, in El Paso, Ill. Had liver and onions, the Portions were huge! Salad bar had dessert and I succumbed to cake. It started raining on the. Way back to campground. Fritz is afraid of the rain and thunder, h is hiding in his crate, which is covered by part of a blanket.

I am ready to take a nap! We were going to put our chairs outside but the rain kind of negated that idea. So naps are appealing!

That's a pretty big cottage Janet. I too thought of a cottage as two small bedrooms off of one big combined room (living/kitchen) and a bathroom off to the other side. My brother lived in a cottage in Vermont and that is what it looked like with an enclosed porch before entering the main living area.
I bet you are "pooped" ... the clean up alone would have me crying.

Uuggh on having to drive back in downpours Kimmer. Not fun being out on the road when it's raining like that. Hope the dentist is able to see Ben and resolves the toothache quickly.

Bummer on the rain Karen and poor Fritz being afraid. Hope you are all settled for the night and the thunder stops.

We went to the gym today and I have yet to sit in one of those aqua massage chairs. The second DH is done his work out he is ready to head out. One of these days I'll go and just sit in a chair just because.
Got DH's speech therapy straightened out too and the new therapist will start tomorrow. Hoping for a better experience. I spoke with her and she seems "with it".
