Montebello Monday!

Good Morning Everyone! It's a dreary gray drizzly day outside but I'm cozy inside enjoying our first cup of coffee. Will head out for breakfast in a bit. The restaurant here charges $25 for egg, bacon, toast and o.j. which I refuse to pay. We'll go back to the restaurant in town that we had lunch at yesterday. They have a Crepe platter I'm most interested in. (For $9) :)

Dinner last night was sublime, although I wasn't really keen on the waiter. They brought us a complimentary amuse-bouche. I really am not sure what it was and couldn't understand the waiter very well even though I asked twice what it was. (He's French so I had a hard time with his accent). Anyway...I could identify very thinly peeled asparagus which I think may have been peeled. It had a smear of goat cheese on it and then there was a light little fluffy 'cake' on the side. It looked like a little green monster. Hard to explain. It was savoury. The whole thing was awesome.

Jim chose the deer which was served with a haskap berry sauce (never heard of haskaps before), a puree of salsify (a root vegetable I also wasn't familiar with) and a rosti potato. The plate was gorgeous and Jim ate ever little morsel. I ordered the Guinea Hen but they said they were out of the Hen so were subbing chicken. A little disappointing but it was still phenomenal. There was a bunch of french words in the description that again I wasn't familiar with but there was some foie gras involved, morels, meade sauce, sea buckthorn foam (a berry) and vanilla potatoes. The potatoes were mashed and were SO good. Not sweet vanilla, just the vanilla flavour. I'd love to be able to replicate it. It was a wonderful meal.

Today we'll bop around the town of Montebello after breakfast and stop into their Cheese shop to pick up an assortment of things for lunch which we'll eat back at the resort. We're going to try a new restaurant in town this evening called "Napoleon" I think, although we haven't totally committed yet.

    Wishing everyone a good day!

Morning!! Wow, $25 for that Janet? It can easily be made at home for so much cheaper, what a rip off! Your dinner last night sounded delicious, so fancy. I haven’t heard of or had most of that either. The pictures on FB are gorgeous. Sounds like you are having a great time on your little get away :) That looks like a great Italian restaurant you may be going to tonight!

We had a very busy weekend. Bri’s tournament dragged out from Friday to Sunday morning. Then all the team got together after and we had a crawfish boil, my first this year so I was super excited! Had a blast and the crawfish were yummy :)

Need to get to the grocery store today, as the kids are complaining that we are out of everything lol, and I agree. Have to figure out if I’m making dinner, or if there are a ton of leftovers in the fridge that need to be eaten. Will head out into the garage fridge and determine that in bit. Also need to vacuum and clean the floors. Wishing everyone a great Monday!!

    Good Morning Everyone!

Oooh so fancy of a dinner Janet! Sounds incredible and so very "French". Happy to hear it was great. The menu at the restaurant you are thinking of tonight looks fabulous too! ENJOY! I too agree about the price for breakfast ... too much.

Sending prayers and healing thoughts to Krumkake and her family. So sad to hear things like this.
Olivia's dinner sounded awesome Tina and all the much more impressive with only verbal instructions. My goodness on eating at 1:00 a.m. but if that's their normal time it's their normal time.

Woke up to some promising news today. The potential buyers came back and we are formalizing the offer. We both seem to be compromising and hopefully it'll work out and I won't get screwed. I need that chapter in my life to close. They are offering me my listing price but I'll put up $4,000 for them at closing. They will put up $1000 and have 15 days to do their inspections, etc. and move forward. In those 15 days they can walk away free and clear, after 15 days I keep the $1000 if they walk for any reason. We are looking at a closing of May 3rd with a 10 day extension if needed. It's the best I'm getting so I'm taking it. Wish us Luck!

Your dinner last night looked fantastic on FB, Janet. I would not do breakfast there either b/c by the time taxes and tips are involved it would be ridiculous but what can I say it is a high-end place and they have lots of overhead there as well. I have had their Sunday Brunch Buffet there and it was well worth it. I hope you enjoy your crepe platter at the other restaurant. Have fun in town.

Nice, you were able to have a crawfish boil after all the games were over with the team, Michelle. Lol at the kids complaining you were out of everything. Good luck shopping and figuring out what to do with the leftovers in your fridge.

All the very best of luck to you on selling the house, Linda! It does sound more promising now.
Sorry to hear about Krumkake, Tina. Thanks so much for letting us know. Liv did make such a nice dinner for the two of them. Good for her.

As Janet mentioned it is a dreary day and I know I am staying put today. Dinner will be chicken something.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

Never had crawfish or a boil Michelle. Nice that you enjoyed it. My Oh My on the tournament going all the way into Sunday! I'm telling you ... you need a small RV to keep up with all that you do.

Mixed up meatloaf this morning and portioned it. Since it's just DH and I, I get two meals out of a package that's about 1.3 pounds. I'll freeze one and bake one tonight for dinner with some yet-to-be-determined sides. I have another package to use and want to make meatballs with it but that'll be tomorrow's project.
I've been looking thru my "Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day" cookbook. My friend told me they have a blog website so I went on that. Found a recipe for a cinnamon sugar brioche that you can make in the crockpot that I want to try. You can make bread in the crockpot however the top does not get a crispy crust but with brioche you don't want a crispy crust ... you want the bread to soft and tender. It notes too that you can make other breads in the crockpot and if you want the crispy outer top crust just pop it in the oven under the broiler for a few minutes. This may be worth entertaining if I don't have to turn the oven on. I need to get yeast and next trip to the store I will along with whatever else I need and I'm going to try it. To be continued, as they say ...

We've decided to go to a different restaurant this evening...."Le Bistro". They do woodfired pizzas and I'm also interested in the Steak Frites. :) Had a wonderful breakfast at Le Cafe Entre Amis. The crepe platter was downright decadent. Three crepes served with little accompaniments, maple syrup, toasted almonds, nutella, fresh fruit and whipping cream. Oh my. I ate every bite. Jim had the fresh fruit plate with the "Early Riser" breakfast sandwich, egg, tomato, lettuce, bacon and cheese on brown toast. It was huge. The owner is very personable and entertaining. Great spot.

Despite the gloomy weather we walked around the shops and picked up a cheese tray complete with sausages, olive coated walnuts, and baguette at the Fromagerie and also bought a round of their "Adoray" cheese which is wrapped in tree bark. It's a semi-soft cheese with spice and overtones of cedar. It was WONDERFUL! Picked up some little Easter bunnies and treats at the Chocolate shop for our guests coming Easter weekend. Yes, I'm having too much fun. :)

SO envious of your crawfish boil Michelle. I've never had one but I know I'd LOVE it. So cool! Have a fun grocery trip and good luck with the house cleaning. I've got to do that when I get back.

That's excellent news on your SC house Linda. Sending you very best wishes for a smooth and quick sale. Good Luck! Cinnamon sugar brioche in the crockpot sounds awesome. I can only imagine the smell wafting through the kitchen while it's cooking!

The Sunday Brunch buffet at Chateau Montebello is most certainly a special occasion event and worth the money Joce. It's just when they charge $25 for a bacon and egg breakfast that I make every day at home for a couple of dollars? that I balk. :) The young man who carried in our bags yesterday told us that the Chateau is going to be getting a $28 million dollar reno soon. Wonder what the breakfasts will cost after that. LOLOLOL. Nice on a Chicken dinner.

Wow on the breakfast price. I would not want to try that at all....after tip etc. it would be ridiculous. Looks like you are ha big a wonderful outing, Janet. Beautiful place!

Sorry to hear Krumkake is not well.

Olivia certainly made a wonderful meal, Tina! Yes I can guess who cleaned the kitchen!

So funny the kids were miffed you were out of things Michelle.

Hoping your house sells without a hitch, Linda. That is aggravating to go through the process. The guy who bought our last house decided to have a knee replacement and wanted to wait 6 more weeks for closing. That meant almost $1,000 more we paid out on the loan, so Wayne said we wanted to sell then or would put it on the market again. His daughter signed for him, since he was out of state. They hired a lawyer to look over the papers, which was okay with us, but the guy knew zilch about it and obviously had no idea what was what. It irritated the person at the title company so much that she charged him full price for the propane in the tank.

Joce, it is rainy here, also, at least off and on, and the weather plays havoc with arthritis. Aargh! The guys are going to put stuff away since they don't want to sit in the rain all afternoon and a big cell is on the way.

Building a fire, small one, and going to relax for a while.

    See you later.

Don't blame the guys for not wanting to get rained on Karen. A big cell is on the way? Nice on the fire.

Big rainy area would have been better terminology.. Not a severe thunderstorm but will lightning etc.. They called it a cell so it must have had lightning, etc.

P.S. Sun came out now. Rain disappeared. Wayne just said they should have waited. NEVER trust the radar. Ha ha!

I checked the Le Cafe Entre Amis, Janet and the reviews and their page on FB says they are placed second in the Province from Trip Advisor. Pretty cool eh! I checked how much Sunday Brunch was now at CM and if it wasn't included in a weekend package and it is $45.00 per person plus taxes and tips now! NO WAY! Your breakfast at Le Cafe Entre Amis sounded to die for minus the Nutella for me.
Enjoy your fire, Karen. The weather does play havoc with my arthritis too!

Janet, your weekend adventure sounds delicious and delightful despite dreary weather. I wouldn't pay that price for a basic breakfast. Crepes sound better anyway.

Linda, hoping the home sale goes your way.

Crawfish boils are fun. I have a propane stand to boil gallons of seafood, potatoes, corn and sausage. We dump the drained pot right on the cleaned patio table covered in butcher paper. Hmm maybe the rehearsal dinner.

I'm fading fast, I've had zero energy for a month. My stomach hurts all the time and the belly bloat is ridiculous.

Wedding plans getting done in fits and starts. Liv can't deal with too much wedding talk at once. Good bye to German/Polish meal. Scotty wants a whole hog roast. So my caterer search starts anew. Two cake tastings done and the were both good. Cake is wildly expensive.

Cant keep eyes open. Love you all.

I have never heard the term 'cell' equated with weather before Karen. Interesting.

Leo, the owner of Le Cafe Entre Amis was takling about their laurels from Trip Advisor Joce. He was very tickled. He saw me pull out my camera yesterday at lunch and asked about why I did it. I told him I was a big Trip Advisor contributor. I'd never had Nutella on a crepe before. When Benjamin went on a school trip to Italy he came home raving about that dish. I thought Nutella was disgusting and I'd still never buy a jar. But...it was fun to try a little bit. :)

Went for a swim and a hot tub and then had some cheese, baguette, nuts, sausage, and chuntney along with a glass of red wine for lunch. This is the life. LOLOL.

    Good afternoon everyone.
Your dinner sounds amazing, Janet and the menu for the Italian place is to dye for. I don't know how your going to decide what to order. That's an outrageous price for breakfast!!
Oh, pizza sounds good as well.I must be hungry. That's strange that the cafe owner has seen someone take a photo of their food. Our daughter is time user of Trip Advisor. LOL, I could live on Nutella. You certainly are living the life!!
You are always super busy Michelle, I wish that I had half of your energy. I'm sure that you will find something great for dinner. A crawfish boil is on my bucket list. Actually all of my bucket list is about food.
That sounds promising, Linda. I wish you luck!! It's great when both sides are satisfied and that one party doesn't feel like they were shafted. I've heard of baking bread in the crock pot but have never tried it, hmm something to think about. Yum, meatloaf.
I agree about the over head, Joce but I wouldn't pay that much. Chicken is always welcomed here, I'm sure that you will find something good to do with it.
Good for Wayne...sticking to his guns about the house sale, Karen. Enjoy your fire.
I'm not sure who Krumkake, is but will say a little prayer.
Planning a wedding is exhausting NYM. I too have been feeling extra tired lately and I blame it on the weather.
Not much new here. I bought a side of salmon, yesterday, at Produce Depot so a portion of that will be dinner with steamed asparagus and rice pilaf. Janet, I'm not sure if your going through Ottawa on your way home but the salmon is gorgeous, deeply marbled and almost 2 inches that in the middle.

LOL Bren @ "Actually all of my bucket list is about food". And as it should be I might add! :) I have a little tin especially made for my crock pot that you bake bread or cakes in. I've only used it once and made a gingerbread cake. It was very good. The side of salmon sounds divine and I would LOVE to stop into Produce Depot on the way home to grab some. You may have missed my post where Jim has just recently announced that he no longer likes salmon. Sigh. I'll still buy some for myself but......
    Enjoy it. I'm envious.

Janet, the only term that comes to my mind is "super cell" which applies to a type of thunderstorm / cloud formation with violent air currents that can produce tornadoes. We took a weather spotter class a zillion years ago and that is where I first heard it.

Ha ha at your foodie bucket list, Bren.

Good to hear from you Tina!

    Hi Kimmer, Joce.

Still drizzly rain. Tomorrow is supposed to be warm and sunny. I hope.

    Have a nice evening.

Our weather forecaster uses the word cell all the time. Our thunderstorms are notorious for generating a cell that starts to spin, voila tornado. They are really good at pinpointing the danger in a storm.

Bread in crock pot sounds fun. I'm itching to start some sourdough. I made a chocolate cake mix bread with peanut butter chips and bananas. I sliced it and baked twice for quick biscotti. It vanished. Scotty likes peanut butter and chocolate.

Nutella has become a no no here. We saw a video of the real ingredients and the fat content was scary. Olivia still likes it but her semi-dieting until wedding is paramount after her over the top supper. She is not doing boot camp until she gets Dr. Release after car wreck. And it only took five months of packing and dressing changes for her cyst to heal. Bless Scotty for his nursing duties. The doc told Olivia he has had patients take nine months to heal.

Got to make up a meat loaf, it has been ages. Olivia wants more lessons in cooking. Imagine that? Miss Take out and Mr. Eat out are beginning to realize food at home can be cheaper.

Dogs are lounging on bed, no room for me. I have heart burn, I had a bowl of steamed spinach and a new potato? Not exactly heart burn food.

Made a shallot, agave nectar, tarragon vinegar dressing for our lunch. Mixed greens. Blue cheese crumbles, candied, pecans, dried cranberries and croutons. It was quite refreshing. Asparagus is 1.99 a lb. We have two more bunches to cook.

Took a nap and I'm still yawning. I can hear my ears pop and gurgle. Maybe something else is going on.

Krumkake, Sally, had two strokes and while they did brain surgery to blast a clot, she coded from blood loss from an abdominal bleed. It took 45 minutes of chest compressions to bring her back. Her heart is beating, she is on a ventilator. She has tiny movement in one hand and responds to voices. They cauterized the bleed. Fixed what they could with clot. Now it is wait and see to determine the damage from her code blue. Erin and John have pleased for prayers. I love Sally, she was one of my very first friends here. She is one tough fighter.
