Moo-Shoe Pork Monday

Good Morning GR! Thought I'd start out with a giggle for our Monday morning thread! :) I love the picture. That is one adorable pig. :)
How did you make out with your cookie baking in the end Tina? I was so taken with that Queen Latifha movie that I googled Grand Hotel Pupp. What a stunning place. I even 'liked' it on FB so it'll be fun to get some updates on the gorgeousness. :) I've been seeing TV advertisements for those Clark Griswold Moose Mugs. They're adorable. We LOVE "Christmas Vacation".
My Brined Turkey breast was so good. Very flavourful. The potatoes were good, the gravy was good and I do love my spinach. :) My Sens won and we had a lovely fire so it was a great evening. :) And to top it off I had a nice chat with Benjamin just before heading to bed. I'm going to try book his flight home for Feb. this morning.
Did you end up grilling the burgers outside or in Michelle? I'm starting to have a craving for your Bacon Gouda Patties. Gonna have to move them up to the old short list soon. I'm afraid I'm with Tina on the avoidance of the chocolate covered cherries. My Mom on the other hand loves them. Especially those Lowney's Chocolate Cherry Blossoms. I remember her eating those when I was a kid. I actually bought her one and put it in her Christmas parcel which I got all wrapped yesterday and set to mail off today. How did your Texans do? "4 Christmas's" was a good movie I agree!
Nice on the decorating Kimmer! LOL @ remembering you had some cookie dough down in the freezer. :) I very much envy you getting to bake with your Grandson next weekend. :) Super cool on the Florida Botanical Gardens Christmas Light Display. I'd love something like that.
Indeed yuck on your weather Michelle! Hope it's better today, especially since you have to head back to work. LOL @ the kids inhaling the Patty Melts so you and Jason had to eat out. LOLOL. Chicken Enchilada soup and infact all your meal sounded yummy.
Glad you managed to check in last night Karen. Ugh on the mouse in the midst of your Pampered Chef tools. I would FREAK big time as well. :)
    - 13C in Ottawa today/8F. Jim's happy as he got three quarters of our pond shovelled off yesterday. When he got to the middle he heard cracking noises (not a biggy as it's only 3 ft. deep but who wants to willingly get wet?) so stopped but with that weather it would have frozen even more so he can probably finish shovelling and even go for a little skate today which will make him a happy man. :)
Joce are you in Kingston now? Probably going to be incommunicado for a couple of days I would expect. We shall continue to send thoughts and prayers that all goes smoothly.
Wishing everyone a super great Monday. GO JOCE GO!

    Good morning all.

It is dreary and icky outside. High is supposed to be in lower 40's. A gloomy day. The LR is still a total disaster since I didn't get anything cleaned yesterday. I was doing good to sweep the kitchen floor this morning, but the LR is still waiting.

Glad Jim called it quits before he went thru the ice! It is no fun getting wet and even three feet is three feet too many. We have watched Ice Road Truckers and often the ice cracks as they drive across it - NOT a job I would ever want, I really prefer dry roads and fall weather. Of course, I realize a lot of it is scripted but the cracking ice under the vehicle would be ultra scary.

Marie, I have no idea what to make for dinner, either. Have to fix something for lunch that is hot and filling, just don't have any ideas for that yet, either. I am still pondering the best avenue for fixing a giant economy size wild pig ham. Will look it up on GR, and everywhere else I can think of.

    Thinking of you, Joce.

The brine, especially that recipe I used as it has a lot of extra spices in it as well, REALLY adds to the flavour of the meat Marie. I highly recommend you try it. It's very, very yummy and a turkey breast is much more manageable for two people than an entire bird! Have a fun jaunt with Rick and a nice visit with your Mom and Dad!
You got a lot done yesterday Karen so don't beat yourself up. All in good time! :) Check out Pinterest for ideas for that Boar too! It's crazy what comes up sometimes!
    I've decided on Lori's
Turkey Club Burgers With Bacon And Swiss Cheese
for dinner this evening although I only have ground pork and not ground chicken so that will have to do. :)
Okay...dreading heading to compare flights but here goes.....

    I love the little piggy.

Totally forgot I had a doctor's appt today. In a bit of a pickle, I was hoping to get more cookies done today. Olivia has 3 kinds to take to her party today. 6 dozen. I had to keep Fred from eating more of her stash....she might be a few short on the Red Velvet crinkles.

Oh my on the ice cracking, glad Jim didn't get a dunking. Yeah for the Sens win and a yummy dinner. Nice day for Janet! Good luck on making the reservations for Benjamin.

Karen, ugh on the house cleaning and good luck on the boar ham search. It is dreary here too. I don't know what we are having for supper either. Might just be pizza with the oven time planned for cookies. Who knows?

Marie, hope the service calls goes quickly. How nice to be able to see your parents and check on their welfare, too. I have dogs trying to climb all over me and it makes it hard to type.

Sending good thoughts to Joce, please be well, my friend.

    Later, gators.

And then he heads home Friday, Feb.20th from Ottawa to Toronto, Toronto to Shanghai (doesn't Shanghai always sound so cool and mysterious?), Shanghai to Taipei arriving home Sat. Feb. 21 at 9:40 p.m. Whew.

Hi all! The pig is hilarious! Sound like your night last night went perfect Janet:) We ended up cooking the burger inside on my cast iron grill pan. It was dark by the time we were ready to cook. I used to love the chocolate covered cherries when I was younger, but now just the thought of that thick syrupy sweet stuff on the inside makes my teeth ache and my stomach hurt lol! I much preferred the acai blueberry ones. Turkey Club Burgers With Bacon And Swiss Cheese looks delicious!! Cool on getting Ben's flights booked, wow he gets to stay for a while!

Hi Marie! Have a good trip down to Chico and visiting your parents :)

Karen, I have watched a couple episodes of the ice road truckers show and it does look scary. A big bowl of soup sounds like a good lunch for you weather. Good luck with that big ol' ham lol!

That is a lot of cookie making you have ahead of you Tina! Mmmmm I don't blame Fred for eating the red velvet crinkles...they sound delish!

Texans won yesterday, whoop! Not much going on today. Michaels off and we are just hanging around being some lazy bums. Pulled out some chicken leg/thighs pieces and need to figure out something to make with them tonight. I think I recently just saved a recipe using them from here that I may make. Need to look. Also need to figure out something for lunch, I'm starving! Probably a leftover hamburger patty topped with some sauteed oni

LOL Tina at having to keep Fred from eating Liv's stash of cookies for the party. :)
Glad to hear your Texans won Michelle. Just found out the Coach of our Sens Hockey Team got fired today. I liked him. :( That chicken recipe sounds good.
Did a quick spin on Pinterest for Boar Roast recipes. Will it fit in your slow cooker?
    https://www.frontiermeats.com/community/our-blog/18-slow-cooker-wild-boar-roast-with-gravy
And I know you're susceptible to wine but all the alcohol would cook off in this one:

Jim decided to come with me into town. We did the Costco run. So I'm restocked on bird seed. :) Then we went for lunch at "Fusion". Dim Sum. Sooooooo good. Totally hit the spot. Then a quick grocery shop at Sobey's. I went to buy all the ingredients for Tina's Polish Sauerkraut soup. Last week they had lots of Smoked turkey drumsticks (which I've used in the past with good success in that recipe) and today there was not a one! Nada! Is like everyone in Ottawa making Polish sauerkraut soup this week? :) LOL. Pomegranates were on 3/$5 which was a good price I thought.
Gotta go prep dinner and I also want to make a pot of Meatball soup
    Meatball Soup
    for dinner tomorrow night.

Thanks for the added wild boar recipe links. I added the URLs to my list of wild boar recipes. I'm not sure if it will fit in the crock pot - it would be a snug fit if it did. It is a huge ham - the boar was a big one. Ron's buddy said I could have the bigger ham if I wanted but I don't think that is a good idea since we are only feeding 6 (or 7) people, not an army, and a 20 pound ham would be more than we need. I found one recipe using cream soda, one with lemon juice, and one that makes red-eye gravy.

The sun room is greatly improved - not so much clutter -- wrapping paper, ornaments, etc. are mostly put away or out of sight. Some of the Christmas decorations are up, and the tree is done. I find myself getting stressed out when it is at all cluttered, much more that with the rest of the house. A friend of ours said as long as the faucets on her sink were clean, she felt like all was well. So I guess my "must-be-clean-area" is the sun room. As long as it is neat and comfortable-looking, and not bare and ultra-modern, I am happy.
