My Monday Morning

  • LindaLMT 6 years ago
Good Morning Everyone. It's Monday and the start of another week. Hopefully an easy one for all.

The builder sent out a rep this morning to "access" the hurricane screw shutter situation. So many screw heads are now stripped because the builder painted over the screws and thus they became cemented into the house making it very difficult to unscrew them without stripping the heads and some couldn't be unscrewed period. He doesn't think they will do anything about it but he will put the request in to have them replaced. The rep is a nice guy, we've gotten to know him and know it's not his decision to make. He did however give me the name and number of a carpet guy to call to kick the buckled carpet back in.

Good Morning Linda! That's good someone came to look at the screw shutter situation and in turn gave you a number of a carpet guy. Now all you need is that BBQ hose to show up and you're good. :)

I slept 'til 10 this morning! I couldn't believe it. It's overcast with a steady rain though so quite conducive to sleeping in. :)

Jim and I are heading out on an Artist's Studio Tour today. There are 18 stops which I have no chance in covering in one day (it has gone on all weekend). I tried to go through the list last night and circle only the ones I really, really want to go see and I only got it down to 10!!!! Gotta go eat, shower and get out of the house if I want to even stand a chance!

Going to make Hot Turkey sandwiches for dinner this evening. Yum!

I had very sad news yesterday morning which put a cloud over our Thanksgiving celebrations. A favourite cousin of mine in England died in a motorbike accident during a race on Saturday. She was 56, married with two beautiful daughters in their twenties. She took up motorbike racing a few years ago and LOVED it. I last saw her in 2014 when she brought her Mom up to Cambridge from Scunthorpe, stayed over and treated us to dinner at a really nice spot. We've written each other ever since we were little girls and she and the girls came over to visit us in Ottawa back in 2004? too. They LOVED the snow. I'll miss her very much and my heart breaks for her family.

    Wishing everyone a lovely Monday.

Morning Linda! What a shame the builder painted over the screws. Hopefully they can get them replaced for you and you won't have to worry about it anymore.

We played ALLLLL weekend at the tournament, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We got 4th out of 12 teams so not too bad. No trophies though :(

    Happy Columbus Day!

Kids have the day off from school and Bri had Emma stay the night and today I am taking them to see "It". I heard it's not too scary and there are only a few bad words. So we will see! Michael is working nights but since we are going early this afternoon, Caiden will stay with him and we will be back before he leaves for work. Caiden LOVES scary stuff and is really upset that he can't go with us to watch it, but nope, he's too young. I told him I would take him to the movies on Sunday, just him and me to go see something.

I am kind of wanting to give the featured recipe a try tonight! Minni Pizza
My kiddos love bagel bites and I think this will be a healthier version of them and hopefully taste better lol. The word "Mini" is spelled wrong in the title and on the recipe and it's driving me nuts. Wonder if it was intentional? :P

    Have a great day everyone!!

Ooops, had to answer a phone call and posted so it wouldn't disappear ...

Hopefully the carpet guy won't give me a quote that's an "arm and leg" ... If it's too expensive then it can stay that way. The job is a 10 minute job and no furniture has to be moved.
DH's speak therapy ends the 20th and they won't re-up him which too I understand. I'll have to work with him everyday and if he starts to break thru then I may be able to start it again. He comes home the 25th and all I got to say is he best be on his best behavior which I think he will be.

I really need that hose for the grill Janet. I so want to use my new grill and can't. I've been wanting some BBQ chicken too.
Wow on sleeping till 10:00 a.m. You must have needed it. Enjoy the Artist's tour. Sounds like fun. Yum on hot turkey sandwiches, always a favorite here. OH-No, so sorry to hear about your cousin, so sad. Prayers to your family and her girls.

Long weekend Michelle with games all three days. How was the weather? Hot or cool enough to be outside? 4 out of 12 isn't bad at all.
Hope the girls enjoy "It". I'd have nightmares if I went to see it. Me and scary movies just don't work. Poor Caiden not being able to go too but he'll be going Sunday and have you all to himself so it's a good trade in my opinion.

I'm thinking about making this recipe for the October IMI2 challenge. Looks like it would be something I'd like and too it's not something sweet. I'll cut the recipe in half though being it's just me and I'm thinking of making it with ground turkey ...

Happy belated Thanksgiving Janet. Hope your artist tour is fun! So sorry to hear about your cousin. Hot turkey sandwiches are always good!

4 out of 12 games is good, Michelle! "It" is sure not my cup of tea, ha ha, but the girls should enjoy it. Good you read reviews beforehand.... love the commercial where family is on the couch watching an old favorite movie of the parents and she has to cover the boy's eyes due to a forgotten scene!

Good luck with the builder, Linda.

Hope you like the pumpkin chili recipe. Let me know if you make changes that improve it. Ground turkey should work well, for sure. I have thought about making some soon but it is still in the 80's F here.

I was given some green peppers and acorn squash so have to check for squash recipes and maybe make homemade spaghetti sauce with onions and peppers. Have to dice them itty bitty or Wayne growls and picks out the big pieces...(tee hee)..

Oh Janet, I am so sorry for your loss. Sending prayers to your family.<HUGS>
    I adore hot turkey sammies.....

Linda, hope all goes well with your husband's speech therapy..sounds like he's doing well...pumpkin chili sounds interesting:) Will check out the recipe:)

Hi Michelle:) Busy girl! have a lovely day:)

I'm thinking of a good comfort meal for dinner..like Joce's tuna casserole..I'll post the recipe when I find it in all of my bookmarks..hopefully I don't have many "tuna" recipes saved..

I have a lot of this and that to do today..it's windy as heck here...so fire danger is high..there's a 4000 plus acre fire going in Cherokee, the next hill over...they are evacuating people and NVADG (North Valley Disaster Group) is busy as well working on animal rescue..a lot of people have large animals they need help with. I, personally, would be ready to go with enough trailers, trucks etc to move my animals..but not everyone can do that I guess...Thank goodness for NVADG:)

    Have a lovely day everyone:)

    Hi Marie. SP.

I would sure make a Herculean to rescue all my critters too, Marie. We don't have a horse trailer so that would be a trip for sure! Saw pix on FB of people getting their livestock out of flooded fields. In case of a fire we don't have too many options, one pickup and my car are all we could use. If the horses would cooperate we could lead them behind the truck, I imagine other drivers would not be happy at the slow pace. Our only other plan is doing a back fire around the pond and hunkering down wet and tired in the already burned out area. . Aargh! Hope we never face that situation.

Hi Karen, yes, I hear ya, hope no one has to be such a situation. At this point, it all we can do to rustle up 3 cats:) You usually have to GO when they say, so people generally don't have a lot of time...that's kindof why we are holding off on getting a dog (or 2)..we want to live where we don't have to worry about wildfires..and they have plenty of flat land with only a few short (haha) trees, not tons of tall pines! Leading your horses behind your truck would work...they can trot fairly quickly:) Whatever it takes I say!!!

OMG!! I was wrong. After reviewing my health insurance for renewal for 2018 it went up $2100 for the year and the deductible went up $200 to $7350. I will have to pay over $10,000 for health insurance. THANK YOU CONGRESS and our government leaders for messing our health care system up so bad it's unaffordable.

I am glad someone is accessing the shutter screw situation, Linda. As you have learned where you live it is very important to be able to be protected from storms. Nice of the fellow to recommend someone to fix your carpet. I hope it isn't too expensive. OMG! HOLY! I can't believe how much health insurance you have to pay! INCREDIBLE!

So very sorry to hear about your cousin, Janet:( I remember when they came to visit you in Cambridge and you had such a lovely time with them. Enjoy your Artist Tour.

The girls did very well, Michelle. I have heard about "It" but I am not into scary movies myself. I think you are right a bit too much for Caiden. I am sure he will enjoy the movie you see on Sunday.

I love that Tuna Casserole, Marie but as we have investigated before I can't get those noodles anymore here and b/c of the border rules they can't be brought over the border for whatever reasons. YIKES on the wildfires! Scary!

Very nice you were given some pepper and acorn squash, Karen.

It is a dreary day and it is raining cats and dogs! Apparently, we are getting the remnants of Hurricane Nate. We are having Hot Turkey Sandwiches for dinner too.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

Wow on health insurance costs Linda. Yes it is sky high and ridiculous, will say no more except friends of ours have had theirs triple when the gov took over.

What is the reason for not being able to transport ramen noodles over the border, Joce? I know there are various foods you can not transport into other countries but have never done so .... except of course when we went to California, which is a state of course, years ago and oranges could not be brought in.

Will have to double check if we ever take the RV to Canada. But I can't see that happening any time soon. The one time we drove there was wonderful and the people were so friendly. We are still in the learning phase for other states, much less RV travel in other countries!

Marie, our horses would be doing well to walk for a long distance, much less trot. They are 24 and 25 years old. The chickens are molting so the feathers would be flying behind us. LOL!

    See you all later.

PS I plowed thru the import / export regulations and am more confused than ever, but it seems Ramen noodles are made with eggs, and may have nuts or seeds in the seasoning packet. Nay had to go to China and. back to figure it out. Ha ha.

They are Fried Chow Mein Noodles, Karen and they are in a can. They used to be made by China Lily in Canada and I can't remember now but I think their factory burned down. I just check Amazon.com and they will tell me immediately if something can cross the border b/c it will say they can or cannot ship something to me. Ya I know somethings are stupid. We watch the TV programs on the border security and it is very interesting. Amazing what some people try to bring in.

Joce, I LOVE your tuna casserole too..it's so different and flavorful..I was never good at making tuna casserole, it always seemed so bland:) I already made it and will bake later, hope it works out OK..I also made a small one to take to Mom tomorrow...do u think t will be ok if she bakes it tomorrow, or should I bake it today and she can reheat? I just never know making casseroles ahead of time..guess just wondering if u have ever made it ahead of time, then baked later:) Gosh, I think I'm making myself crazy..LOL Oh man, that's too bad u can't get ramen noodles!!!! Remember I was going to ship u some! LOL

Awwww Karen, I am so jealous that you have horses...and all the other animals..that has always been a dream of mine..to have a few animals on a small piece of peaceful property...

If you want the "Chow Mein Noodles" Crispy on top for your Mom. I would cook them both today, Marie. No, I have never made it ahead of time before. So I am not sure about it. I have never minded it reheated though. Now you are making me jealous b/c I can buy Chow Mein Noodles from my Chinese Restuarant that are fried but they aren't as good as the canned ones I used to get.

Thanks Joce:) Makes sense:) I know for a fact she will have to reheat because she will have leftovers, so will we, and it always reheats well from what I can remember...oh that's too bad your Chow Mein Noodles noodles aren't as good as the canned:(

Marie, I was 45 (I think) when I got my first horse. It had been a dream forever. We have owned 7 horses over the years, all different personalities. My favorite was Victor, a Morgan. I have mentioned him before -- he was my buddy. The two we have now will be the last. They are old, but healthy and happy. Hang in there, you will have your critters some day.

I guess I never thought about what the reasons were behind not admitting some foods. When we came home from Germany we brought a bottle of Franken Wein given to us as a gift. I put it inside a snow boot to protect it. Gave the customs dude a laugh!

Things have changed so much since 9/11, Karen. We used to go quite freely across the border with just a driver's license or birth certificate. Now it is a passport and all sorts of crazy things that you can or cannot take or somethings you need a permit for etc.

  • MissouriFarmWife 6 years ago said:
Yep. For sure things have changed. Now we need a passport to get back to the states! Someone said the passports for going into Canada are not the same as the ones for Europe, etc. But I have no idea.

We are going to go to a wedding and will take the RV and avoid driving the two hours back at o-dark-thirty. Fritz can go in the RV but not to the wedding....ha ha!

One of the ladies a church gave him some dog toys, he guarded his green stuffed toy all day and ripped out the stuffing. It is all over his dog bed. Very hard on toys.

You guys did very well at the tournament Michelle! Congrats! I didn't realize today was a Holiday in the States as well. Happy Columbus Day American GR ladies! :) I'm surprised to hear that "It" isn't supposed to be that scary. I read the book. How did Bri like it? Fun that Emma had Bri stay over.

Wishing you lots of strength and good wishes come the 25th Linda, on both your DH's return and strides in his speech therapy. Am really sorry to hear about your Health Insurance prices. That's just crazy.

LOL @ Wayne growling and picking out the big pieces Karen.LOLOL.

Very sorry to hear about the forest fires Marie. So awful for the animals to have to deal with.

Great minds think alike with the Hot Turkey sandwiches Joce. I enjoyed mine immensely. It rained when we first set out on the Studio tour but then stopped and by the time we were heading home the sun had come out!
